I woke up the day after Christmas in Salina with a hankering for some coffee. I'm not much of a…read morehotel coffee girlie, so I opened up my Starbucks app and found this location nearby. I didn't realize there might have been a stand alone Starbys in Salina elsewhere so I ended up here. I wish I had done a bit more research as I'm sure there's got to be another one, but here I was so I got in line. For the day after Christmas at around 9am, this location was packed. The line was long, and I could tell the employee working was really overwhelmed. After overhearing conversations she was having with others in line I gathered that at least one employee had failed to show up and she was kind of running the ship solo. I felt bad for her and she was hustling, so I decided I can deal with the line and so long as I'm out in 30 minutes or so it's fine. I ordered my usual brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso, no modifyers, just wanted something simple on the menu to get in and out. By the time I got to the front of the line another person had showed up and was making the drinks but I could tell she was maybe not the most skilled barista as the gal who was likely her senior kept answering questions and telling her what to do. All of this aside, I figured, it'll be okay, it's a Starbucks and they have their drinks down to a science - the girl will follow directions and it'll be fine. It was not fine. When my drink was called out I grabbed it, took a sip, and my eyes doubled in size. First of all it looked a bit off when I got it, but holy hell. The girl who made the drink at AT LEAST doubled if not tripled the sugar content of this beverage. It was way more of a double sweet brown sugar oat milk latte rather than shaken espresso. I was pretty devastated, but to ask this girl who clearly did not know what she was doing to re-make my drink did not seem like a solution that would help anyone on the day after Christmas when clearly both employees were having bad days. Instead I took it, drank about half of it, and tossed what I couldn't drink. It was edible but really just barely. I was mostly grateful for the caffeine at that point. Overall, this is not a good Starbucks location. I will say, it could have been an off day, the folks working were not having a good day so that is totally possible. Would I try it again? No. I was pretty badly burned by the error of a very standard and very popular drink that I've ordered literally all over (from Kansas City to Frankfurt Germany) with no issues. I wish them all the best and hope that they are given some resources to turn it around.
