I used to work at this Houlihan's over 10 years ago and I like to stop in from time to time and see if it has remained as good as it was way back when. And guess what, for the most part, it has! Service was very friendly and, for the most part, timely in taking our orders and bringing food out. They also did a nice job of pre-bussing our table so it wasn't uncomfortably cluttered with plates - we did order 3 appetizers for our party of 4, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. For food, we had Shrooms, Spin Dip, and Chicken Lettuce Wraps. The Lettuce Wraps were the favorite, and the recipe seems to have been unchanged, which is great. I always get a little concerned that as time goes on, cost-saving efforts sometimes lead to detrimental recipe changes - not so for this app and same for the Shrooms. But the same cannot be said for the Spin Dip. It was thinner and had a little less umami or cheesy savoriness that I used to get from the dip back in the day. Obviously, I can't know for certain that the recipe changed or if this was just a less-than-stellar batch, but I won't get it again. As for entrees, we got the Stuffed Chicken Breast with Sweet Potato Fries and Green Beans, the Brentwood Chicken Sandwich with regular fries, the Grilled Chicken Nachos, and a seasonal offering, Crispy Chicken Thai Noodle Bowl with a Tuscan White Bean Salad. All entrees looked great, though the Thai Noodle Bowl looked a little sloppy, as not much presentation goes into putting a mix of noodles and veggies on a plate, and honestly, it fell a little flat with the texture - noodles and veggies were a bit too soft - and the flavors were dulled own by hanging out in a pot for too long. It would go a long way to serve this dish with some fresh cilantro, scallions, jalapeños, lime, and chopped peanuts to make it truly a special, limited-time, seasonal dish rather than what felt a little like an afterthought. Chicken Nachos are what I recommended to my high teenager-nephew. It's reasonably priced, large potion size, and its chips!! Can't go wrong, right? But will mention that if you don't like fresh veggies like jalapeños, avocado, and onion, consider something else. This dish has changed in 10 years, but seemingly for the better! So, sweet potato fries...I love me some good SPFs, but these weren't it. Even with the creamy horseradish sauce on the side, which I do love, they weren't crunchy enough and I prefer a thicker cut fry and these were more shoe-string style. With that being said, I do think their regular fries have improved since I worked here. They are now using a recipe that has a coating on them that helps them hold their crisp which was fabulous. Keep that up! Honestly, I didn't try the Brentwood Sandwich, but it looked amazing. We had so many apps that my sister just took it home to eat. But I'm sure it was the same - it looked the same and it was good back then. Stuffed Chicken Breast was rich and good. My older sister who ordered this did make the comment that she probably has something in her freezer that is this dish. I think that was a bit harsh, but I tried it and it was creamy, warm, and something I'd order again. I don't buy frozen entrees like that to keep in my freezer, so it's a treat. And if you've come to Houlihan's for years, you almost can't go wrong ordering this. Note, the green beans served with it were too soft for my and my older sister's liking, but the texture didn't bother my younger sister. Last thing I'll mention - the desserts are small, but rich and heavy. The chocolate brownie cake we got needed ice cream to break up the heavy chocolate that coated our mouths with every bite. But if you're a chocolate fan, you'll love it. Overall, I'm very happy that we stopped in. Almost everything was just as good as it was way back when, and a few things were better. But one question - why no more Chicken Parmesan?? read more

Family dinner went very well ! Our sever .. if i remember correctly his name was Steven. He mentioned Sunday was his last day but man that was some of the best service I've received in a good while. He seemed very calm and collected and remembered everything didn't mess up had a great sense of humor and just very helpful! On The other hand the food was great. Portions were great everything had a bunch of flavor. If you're wanting an alcohol drink i ordered a berry mojito- yummy! And also a bottle of wine, Pinot Grigio . This was a quick place to stop in for dinner. The place was hopping and every busy but service was good. A quick review of the appetizers and we selected the Firecracker Shrimp. Nothing to brag about but it was worthy. The main menu took a while to scan since there were several good options. In the end I decided to go old school and have the Pot Roast. I was not disappointed because of the huge plate in front of me. No way I could eat all of this but gave it my best shot. If I was local I would have asked for a to go box, but since I was traveling on business this wasn't an option. This is a decent place to get some sit down, american food. This bar/ restaurant is connected to the Holiday Inn that sits parallel with Kansas State University. This first time trying it here, years ago, wasn't the best first impression. I had their fettuccine alfredo and the noodles itself were a little tough and with the calamari I felt like there was a lot going on for a simplistic dish. Or maybe I just didn't enjoy the peppers. Recently, I've given it another go when I stayed at the hotel every so often. Not every dish was a winner, but I had my favorites. My favorite would have to be the Lemony Chicken Piccata and their butter Cake. The noodles that came with were better and the chicken was cooked perfectly, all the right seasonings. And the dessert featuring the butter cake, delicious, warm and topped with vanilla ice cream. I liked the caesar salad as well and with the polenta, ups the game. The only real problem I had this go around was I ordered the chicken caesar salad to-go online, they forgot the chicken. I mean it's in the name, haha. Ate here alone for work before a flight out the next day. Was a Thursday and while the place was busy, it wasn't slammed. It took 10 min for the waitress to even come by. It took almost as long as the food of an additional 20 min to get one bar drink and almost 10 min more just to get water. I had the ahi tuna app which was quite beautiful and delicious. I temped the time clock and also had the scallops w risotto. It was done well with a generous group of scallops. The manager(?) came out at some point, then the same gentleman moved to the other side of the bar and ordered food. Once it came, he moved back to the other side of the bar (more hidden, I guess) so they both could eat off his plate and she could ignore customers. Another person came to sit at the bar with 2 bottles of Busch (still sealed, so I guess he brought them in), and she greeted him like they know each other, and let him open the bottles and drink them at the bar. Only those who were obviously her friends were checked on, and I had to get her attention after 10 min to bring the dessert for the last part of my meal. We recently stopped here while staying at the hotel next door after a cross country road trip and the food was definitely worth it. We had the Char Crusted Ahi Tuna Appetizer, Sedona Shrimp Pasta, Chicken Asian Chop Chop Salad & Meatloaf no.9 ( which I would never even think of getting at a restaurant) and it was AMAZING! As for the food, I got the build your own meal. Starting with some delicious wings. The menu did not offer BBQ sauce as an option, but my server wa able to get it for me. She did a great job. The fries were not hot, and I think the burger was a bit too lean. Not a lot of flavor to it. I didn't want to say anything cause I wanted to get done eating. I placed an order for pickup, and it was horrible. The coleslaw was a wilted salad that was over- sauced. The salmon was overcooked and extremely dry. Horrible service- decent food- Bartender ignored me for the first few minutes and then finally acknoledge me- after asking me what I wanted to drink I watched him visit with several other co-workers and after about 8 minutes the light bulb came back on and he must've remembered he was at work and he finally brought me my drink after texting on his cell phone lol. I started feeling like I was on a reality TV show when 20 minutes later he was back mingling with other co-workers and my cup had been empty for 10 minutes. Houlihans does steak right! Our filets were cooked perfectly med rare and the accompaniments tasted wonderful! And where have you been hiding those beet chips! Wow! Never really cared for beets but those were amazing! Can't eat just one! Try a whole plate! The only reason I withheld a star was the less than attractive plating! My steak/4 spears of asparagus and potato looked like 3 dwarfs on that humongous plate! You didn't trim the tough stem off the asparagus before grilling it and 4 spears was a mighty stingy serving! Looked more like a garnish. On a regular dinner plate this would have looked great! But the huge plate (more like a serving platter) made it all look minuscule and chintzy, like you were running out of food! Update: 10/30/19. Still awesome steak! Cut like butter, tender, flavorful, just awesomeness overload! The loaded potato was equally awesome, moist, nicely dressed with all the yummy goodness you expect in a loaded baked potato! And the Roasted Tomato Bisque, oh my! It just can't get any better than those awesome cheese balls in the soup!!! Please Don't EVER take this off the menu in my lifetime! I would be devastated!!! Now can we talk plating? We taste with the eye as well as the mouth/tongue! A tiny bit of garnish and a smaller plate would have made my meal 5 Stars and more!!! Usually a good place, but now the place is staffed with servers and a manager who have know idea what customer service is. All had an attidude. I sat at the bar and ordered a burger and a beer. The female bartender ignored me most of the time. I had to ask for her attention to put in a order. Of course it takes a long time and a cook (not the server) brings out the food. Again I have to flag down the bartender to get another beer. Then I have to flag her down to take the plates away. Some slop dropped off my burger on the bar and she just left it there while I still sat. Finally I said "I'll get it" and pushed it into the bar gutter. That triggered them and the manager and bartender started jumping on me. They said I was the one who made the mess. Whaat? And I wasn't welcome in their Houlihans and to get out. I just wanted them to do their jobs. I left a twenty dollar tip to show them who was in the right. Never again. I'm 61 and travel the country and certainly know what bad service looks like. I ordered the wings with a side of sweet potato fries (with horseradish sauce). Wings were delicious (I am a wing...nut). I can honestly the buffalo wings are a sure thing. Some of the folks had salads and said they were tasty. Burger sliders were good but didn't receive rave reviews. Happy hour prices were on par with many places but can't say great for college town. $4.00 for iced tea seemed a little high considering a monster (possibly a liter?) Long Island was $9.00. Since my friend and I were both vegan, we had to modify the burger quite a bit I.e. no cheese, no sauce, sub a gluten-free bun, and add guac and salsa! I was tempted to lump these guys in with other chains like TGIF and Chilis. But they are much better. I've been to this particular Houlihan's 5 or 6 times and they are consistently good. If it is crowded or not, the service is good and the food is great. They have enough variety on the menu to keep us coming back. The only problem I would cite is the noise during peak business. It gets really loud, so we just try to go when it isn't as busy. It is worth mentioning that their presentation goes a step beyond most restaurants.
