I've been launching from Buckley Cove since I was in college. The hubs and I decided to take a late evening ride on the river tonight....after all the crazies got off! Buckley Cove is open 24 hours and has a guard shack with a guard on duty. There's a nice park right on the water for picnicking, restroom facilities and an RV park too. It's owned by the city, conveniently located just 5-10 minutes from March Lane & Interstate 5 and is an easy tootle to the downtown waterfront or the Windmill Cove area. We had a few surprises tonight. A fireworks show to the north and later in the evening one to the south west. It was unexpected since tonight was the 3rd. We also relaxed on the water listening to the bullfrogs serenade us. Before pulling back into Buckley Cove, Bob asked if I'd like to go downtown. Sure. The Downtown Marina was almost full, a hip band was playing Tower of Power tunes from the patio of Chivita's and baby ducks were swimming in a row near the events center. We lingered to hear the band and then headed back to the cove. All in all a very nice 3rd of July evening. We thought it would be insane to be out on the river on the 4th of July since literally 5-6 thousand boats get on the river to watch either the downtown fireworks or the Barron Hilton fireworks every year....could you imagine trying to get "off" the water after the show is over?

SMUD still isn't allowing trailered boats to launch even though the rest of the state relaxed their launching regulations. My son and I used to enjoy fishing here, but since closing the launches and forcing adults to wear life jackets on paddle boat watercraft or threatening to kick us off the water...your time could be spent better elsewhere that doesn't feel like the rest of California telling you what to do.

The only way that can happen is if more people start getting memberships here. There are about 20-40 slips available for people to part their boats and there are always boats for sale at minimal prices. As a member, you enjoy discounted liquor, sail boat charter, and meeting some of the most interesting people in Stockton. Come check it out if you ever get a chance. They host events for the public so please don't skip over this place. I hang out here often and can never get enough.

In front of the activity area is a small playground with slides and climbing structures. This whole area is surrounded by water so small children should be closely supervised ! The park has two different play areas: one for little kids and one for older kids. In the little kid area, there are fun swings to swing your baby and swing yourself at the same time. There is a climbing structure and a balance beam. There is a large seating area with tons of shade. A single bathroom is also on the property. Next to the park is a large field, big enough to play fetch with your dog. Huge upgrade and a great place to take your kid.

Earlier in the year I visited Lake Canyon Park which is just a short distance from Canyon Creek Park. While at the park I found out that the two parks are connected by a scenic trail. This sounded very intriguing, so naturally I had to check it out. Canyon Creek Park was everything that I had imagined and more ! The park was quite large and very well maintained. It has an play area for older children as well as for younger children. Both play areas have swings, slides, and climbing structures . Wisteria vines covering the picnic area provided plenty of shade. Other amenities that the park had to offer was one/half basketball court, restroom, and a scenic walking/biking trail that will take you to another park just a short distance away "Lake Canyon Park." Wonderful park for your weekend family gathering, or morning / evening walks ! Enjoy !
