Willards should be ashamed of themselves....but they won't be because they are shady and have dragged Top Gun down to the gutter with them. I've had nothing but negative interactions with them since they sold, but I keep trying to give them a chance because of how awesome they used to be. I'll just address the latest one. I called them out to service my mini split. The Top Gun tech that came out was great. But couldn't find the problem because of course the mini split started acting right when he came out. A few weeks later, it started making a noise while it was off. I called again and they sent a guy from Willards. This guy (I won't say his name) told me that my levels (that were just checked a few weeks prior) were low. I said how is that possible. He said there's a leak and it would cost over $800 to find it. So I called the office to complain and the office called him. Mysteriously, the levels "returned to normal". I told the office I didn't feel comfortable with this guy, but they assured me everything was fine and let him complete the work and they'd give me $50 off for the "confusion". This guy proceeds to take my mini split apart and says that my fan was caked with dust (it was) and needed to be cleaned. I asked him to clean it and he says that he doesn't work on mini splits and doesn't feel comfortable doing it. Ummm then why was he touching it in the first place! So, I called the office back, they said they'd send a mini split specialist out on Thursday. Thursday comes and goes and no one shows up. I called Thursday night, talked to what I think was an answering service who said they'd have someone call me Friday. No call. Today, I called again. Now it's some AI answering system answering the phone. The system said they'd have someone call back. Again...no call. I'm livid. This once great company sold out when they sold and now I can't stress enough to stay away at all costs. The original Top Gun techs were awesome and you could count on them. The ones remaining need to leave before Willard's damages their reputation like they did Top Guns. It's very sad what has happened to them. Ever since they were sold I've had nothing but trouble with them.

Anyways I called a few different locations for quotes on a Thursday. Lee from Bluebonnet responded first, came over that same day for a quote. He was back by Tuesday and it took him all of thirty minutes to remove and replace the shower handle for us. Price was exactly what he quoted as was the time to do the job. The coordinator had their plumber Spencer call me to see if I had any questions after our initial call. I initially brought in another company for an estimate but called Spencer back for a fact check to verify the first company's pricing. Spencer was able to respond immediately with what Leak Geek's pricing would be for the same pricing and said they could get out there within about an hour. I ended up hiring Leak Geeks, and Spencer got here within about 30 minutes of being dispatched. He did a great job identifying where the leak was coming from. It was a worse case than I had hoped for, but he found it. He cut and capped the line so I could still use the rest of the water in the house while the drywall was being remediated and the eventual repairs could be made. He referred a remediation company, American Water Damage, who had an estimator come out, again within about an hour, provide an estimate, and get a remediation tech to come out to move a basin, cut open the upstairs wall, and place fans and a dehumidifier. I'm impressed and relieved that they could get all of this done in the same day. Spencer was friendly and professional throughout. I couldn't have asked for more (except for the leak to not have happened in the first place).2

What more can you ask of a company than that they respond professionally to criticism? As I said, if they succeed in improving their communication, Mother Modern was one of very few companies working on the weekend. So if you have a real emergency, hopefully Mother Modern can be at your door soon to address your issue. Original Review: I am only evaluating how hard it is to schedule a time slot with Mother Modern if you do not have a wide open schedule. They were difficult to communicate with, bumped our appointment, and showed up at a random time when we were not available. We have jobs, so we ended up hiring a more professional company that could give us a time slot. If you have an emergency and are *very* flexible, will be home all day, and won't mind if your time slot is bumped, then maybe try Mother Modern. A point in their favor is that they were working on the weekend. We had an exterior leak sizable enough that we had to shut off water to the house. Of course we found it at ten 'til 5 on a Saturday. We fully expected not to get an appt until Monday and were prepared to live without water for a few days. But on Sunday morning we were able to get an appt scheduled for 2 pm with Mother Modern. We then got ready for church, but just before leaving we got a call saying they were in the area and could come now. We said we preferred our 2pm appt; it worked with our schedule for the day. He said that another job had been scheduled for 2 and our appt had been canceled. What?! We had stopped contacting potential plumbers because we had made a firm appt with these guys. He said they could come Monday instead but couldn't give a time window, just that they "will call 30 min prior." You can't even tell me if it will be morning or afternoon on a weekday? Clients are just supposed to be available all day on a workday? Very odd. We wanted to try to find a more reliable company, so we said (in case we couldn't make an appt with someone else) that if they had someone available Monday AFTERNOON, to give us 1 hour notice so we could meet the technician. They sent someone first thing Monday MORNING and gave half hour notice. We missed meeting this technician, of course. The company wants your business, but has real communication and scheduling issues. Maybe Mother Modern specializes in the most urgent of emergencies and expects you to be anxiously waiting on property 24/7 for them to show. So if you're desperate or very flexible, maybe this company will work for you. If you have a job, then Mother Modern might be a headache to deal with. I was starting to wonder if maybe this was considered normal for an area like DFW, but no. Caution on using Carroll Service - what was communicated and what happened are two completely…read moredifferent things: I called Gabe Carroll on a Friday after seeing his Yelp reviews, looking for a quote on electrical work at a rental property -- we have renters moving in and wanted to make sure everything was up to code and safe. Gabe said he could come out that Monday to provide a quote, and mentioned I'd get a message from an automated system but told me to ignore it, so I did. Monday morning, one of his workers arrived before Gabe and began pulling out switches and other items before any quote had been given or fees discussed. My son was the only one home at the time. Gabe arrived shortly after to assess the work needed, then called me to walk through what he'd found and said I'd have a quote to review within a few minutes. When the quote arrived, it included a $149 service fee and a $159 diagnostic fee in addition to the repair estimate -- none of which had been mentioned to me beforehand. When I questioned this, Gabe said I had agreed to the fees via the automated message -- the same message he'd told me to ignore, and which I never opened. He sent a screenshot of a calendar entry with a checkmark as "proof" of my agreement. I had gotten quotes from other electricians at no cost, which is what I expected here too, so I could compare pricing fairly before committing to work. When I pushed back on the fees, Gabe became confrontational: he called the police (who, after speaking with him, apologized for the call and left), threatened to send my account to collections, and contacted city code enforcement about violations he'd found. I'm now working directly with the inspector on those items, which is exactly the kind of oversight I wanted a professional's help with in the first place. When I mentioned I'd be leaving a review, Gabe said he'd sue me for slander. My advice: get any fees confirmed in writing before agreeing to a "quote" visit, and consider getting quotes elsewhere -- several other local electricians will do this at no charge and not be so hostile in the interactions.
