Impressively professional and thorough. The guy George was awesome. They complemented the check up, up front. There aee some good catches that we can get fixed today, and extend the life of the compressor. Heartily recommend. Top Gun was such a great company, but they sold to a company named Willards who has completely destroyed this company. Willards should be ashamed of themselves....but they won't be because they are shady and have dragged Top Gun down to the gutter with them. I've had nothing but negative interactions with them since they sold, but I keep trying to give them a chance because of how awesome they used to be. I'll just address the latest one. I called them out to service my mini split. The Top Gun tech that came out was great. But couldn't find the problem because of course the mini split started acting right when he came out. A few weeks later, it started making a noise while it was off. I called again and they sent a guy from Willards. This guy (I won't say his name) told me that my levels (that were just checked a few weeks prior) were low. I said how is that possible. He said there's a leak and it would cost over $800 to find it. So I called the office to complain and the office called him. Mysteriously, the levels "returned to normal". I told the office I didn't feel comfortable with this guy, but they assured me everything was fine and let him complete the work and they'd give me $50 off for the "confusion". This guy proceeds to take my mini split apart and says that my fan was caked with dust (it was) and needed to be cleaned. I asked him to clean it and he says that he doesn't work on mini splits and doesn't feel comfortable doing it. Ummm then why was he touching it in the first place! [[HIGHLIGHT]]So, I called the office back, they said they'd send a mini split specialist out on Thursday. Thursday comes and goes and no one shows up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Thursday night, talked to what I think was an answering service who said they'd have someone call me Friday. No call. Today, I called again. Now it's some AI answering system answering the phone. The system said they'd have someone call back. Again...no call.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm livid. This once great company sold out when they sold and now I can't stress enough to stay away at all costs. The original Top Gun techs were awesome and you could count on them. The ones remaining need to leave before Willard's damages their reputation like they did Top Guns. It's very sad what has happened to them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Monday I get a call from Allie explaining how long it would take to get the parts from the manufacturer & when to expect my AC to be fixed. Allie was friendly, kind, compassionate, & helpful the few times we spoke. Excellent customer service![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The following Monday (yesterday) Arturo came to replace the coil in my attic. I was told in advance that it would be an all day job. No problem. Arturo walked us through & showed us the problems that caused our AC coil to need replacement once the old coil was out. It was fantastic getting a mini teaching lesson about home AC. He took the time to explain the possible issues with the unit outside too. At the very end we ran into a problem. Arturo said he would be happy to stay & troubleshoot, or come back today. No point to come back out even though he'd been working all day. He quickly found the problem & the AC was up & running. Kudos to Arturo! I know nothing about AC repairs, but the cost was reasonable to me. I actually had to raise my AC a few degrees because my house was so cool this morning. I just had a great experience with Top Gun - we had AC failures and we needed two heat pumps ASAP. Scott was great and worked with our limited budget until we settled on two high SEER units that qualify for the fed tax credit. Came back from Thanksgiving holiday only to discover our furnace was not working properly. I contacted Top Gun the next day and they were able to get a tech out the same afternoon. We have used them for bi-annual maintenance on our HVAC system so we trusted them. Upon inspection of the unit, it was determined the EMC (blower motor) had gone bad. Our options were to replace the part (which was under warranty). But then the tech informed he had no idea how long it could take to get the part from manufacturer (Carrier). It could be days, maybe a couple of weeks. He did not even offer to call to check. It is supposedly a $4600 part, and it was going to be $2300 automatically for labor to install the new part when we could get it. They just automatically make it 1/2 of the cost of the part which was not even the real price. Mind you it was cold here that week (lows at night were in the 20s) and we had no heat. So then comes the part, "Well it would be quicker if you just got a new furnace. We could have installed probably tomorrow or the next day." I asked a bunch of questions trying to get more information about the replacement part. I said I need to think about and discuss further with my husband and then the technician left after being quoted $7800 for a new furnace. About a 1/2 hour later I got a text from the technician stating that his boss said he would do the new furnace for $6400(I think in that price range) $6000 something. We were in a quandary: it was cold and we had no heat. Something did not sit right with me and I thought a new furnace, really? I contacted my brother who was in this line of work many years ago. I sent him the furnace info and the next morning he called me back and he said you are getting screwed. He found the exact same part online from a distributor for about $1100, and indicated a friend of his had almost the same identical problem. I could have ordered the part, however would have needed someone to install it and was worried about voiding the warranty on the unit. Plus, the part would be no charge as it was under warranty. My brother also said $2300 was an exorbitant amount for labor. He said it should only be about $400-$500 to replace the part. As soon as I got off the phone with him, I started making some phone calls. After the 3rd phone call, I found a local company who listened to my problem and called me back an hour later and said the part was on order from Carrier and they should be able to install it and fix the furnace the next day. (It was a couple of days because of the delay in getting the part to the airport-we had paid for expedited shipping). I was quoted $500-$600 for labor to replace the part. In addition, the new company pro-actively ordered an additional part (control board-this was also under warranty) as this may have been bad as well. The control board could not be tested without the blower motor working correctly first. Top Gun tech mentioned there could be a potential issue with the control board, but we would have to wait until they replaced the part for the blower motor and got that working first. So essentially, we could still be without heat and must wait on a secondary part for who knows how long. Our furnace was fixed in 5 days (there was a weekend in there). The blower motor and control board were replaced for $600 labor out the door with the other company we used. Stay away from Top Gun!!! They were out to make a fast buck and totally take advantage of a loyal customer. Inflating the price of a part, then price gouging for labor, and then trying to sell us a new furnace. Sorry for the long review, however I feel like Top Gun definitely needed to be call out on this. We will not be doing business with Top Gun ever again! read more

So, coming to Yelp, to get tips from others that have been there, and done that, saves you money now, and in the long haul. 5 stars past your first 25 reviews can be an inside job, but 5 stars at almost 100? That means you are doing things right, with great consistency. In a business where no parts are cheap, every job is steep, as in the HVAC world, to see 5 stars is a feat in itself. Well, with Top Gun, you get people like Jonathan Riddle that has your 6. (See the movie, which means covering your tail). The consumate professional. Yes, he's in it for the money, but the honest buck, no gouging. It's a Saturday, a day when AC guys are collecting first borns, skulls, ravaging, and pillaging credit cards. Take no prisoners, and Top Gun is just doing what's necessary to get you back to cool air, not in hot water. Everything was explained to me in terms of what's needed to bare bones make it run and what they recommend to make it soar like an F16. I wanted the F16, so it was a bit extra, but disclosed up front as not required and not pushed with the hard upsell. I have a friend and nephew who are HVAC specialists, but one lives in LA, and the other was swamped. Having a tech like Jonathan put me at ease that while I don't know him, he is in it to earn my business this time, and from here on. So the install is Monday if the part comes in. Will update you with some sweet HVAC pics then. Believe me, when you are paying for AC repairs, parts are like buying jewelry. Might as well show off that house bling. I just cannot leave a positive review of this Company. The technician I had (Austin) was great, but the overall price structure cannot be justified. I am a reasonable person who understands these companies need to make money, but charging $2,300 to swap out a blower motor that takes less than an hour of labor is just absurd. The part was $1,400 which is the same as I was quoted at another place a few weeks ago, so adding $900 on top of that is just maddening. I will not use again based on this experience. Considering that I paid $1,400 a little over two years ago for the same job on my other unit, there is no justification for this other than their business model is not affordable for their customers. read more

This is how to get the best service out of this company: - Prepay for a maintenance plan that includes a single free diagnostic per unit for any time during the year - Call them out when your AC goes out but still pay them $99 for the already paid diagnostic - Have them come out and not even accurately diagnose the issue (definitely good sign if they don't go into the attic) - Sit there and listen to their sales pitch telling you need to replace BOTH your systems and all components including components that are only 6 years old - Notice that they say even their new units go out - If you are uncertain, ask them to explain and hopefully they can explain when your transmission goes out in your car you should replace the whole car. This will give you peace of mind. You might have spent $30k to gut perfectly good equipment, but at least you trusted them. P.S. I did most the steps listed here and I'm highly satisfied. Thanks Top Gun Reply to Owner: Yes I'm the idiot. I definitely didn't show the quote. Half my AC unit isn't only 6 years old. Also there is definitely no ladder to access to the attic (other AC company was even angry they could easily walk up to the attic). Breaking from being funny: This company gave me a call and squarely agreed I paid for a diagnostic but they agreed they didn't diagnose it. They flat out lied in their reply except about their problems with new units. I in fact want to replace outside unit but I made it very clear several times that I called them out to get an accurate diagnostic so I could know what all should be replaced. I was open to replacing many parts of the system, but I'm not replacing things like my furnace that are 100% functional and only 6 years old. They had ladder access, I've been up there, other technicians have been up there. I showed John how to get access. Top Gun left us in the heat and refused to diagnose how to fix our AC besides just replacing the EVERYTHING. Call no one else except Top Gun. Quality install, excellent service and name brand equipment. I was helping my mother who was hospitalized for a stroke. I knew she was in need of a full HVAC change out. She had the original unit from 1994. It was a builder great (surprised it lasted this long), but was thrown together like a kids science project. Her ducts were not hung, it had a coil plenum which was blowing condensation into the ducts. It wasn't pulling enough air due to the size of the existing return. It was a hot mess. I called the company that did mine but soon felt I wanted another opinion. So I got multiple estimates. As soon as I met these guys I knew I wanted to do business with them. They were trustworthy, really talked through the process and made me feel at ease. Plus they are veterans! It was a no brainer. The team worked all day. They rearranged the unit in the attic, fixed all the ducts, replaced all the vents, added an additional return, supply and cleaned up after. We now have more space in the attic! The comfort level has greatly improved and the team did an amazing job. I wish I had found them sooner and have done my own HVAC change out a few years back. I had Top Gun install my new 5 ton system and I am glad I did. They where competitive on price and delivered what I wanted, a basic high efficiency system with no up sell. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While they showed me the higher costing systems, they where not pushy about it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I moved up from an old 13 seer to a 15 seer single stage system. While there crew was quite young, they knew what they where doing and had it done in about 6 hours. Apparently this crew does mostly New installs and that gave me some piece of mind. Lastly, we have very light colored carpet and they wore shoe covers and put down canvas drop clothes so not to stain. They even vacuumed up very nicely when they where done! Picture this... it's a 96 degree day in Dallas and you wake up to your AC not working whatsoever.
