This historic home is not your typical bed and breakfast, but has several rooms you can rent, we opted for the loft - a converted attic with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a sitting area. Upon arrival, you will enter from the rear of the property where the gravel parking lot is. The home is walking distance from Pies and Pints pizza. You may have to dodge a local cat that has associated itself with the home. Their website warns you that the loft has low ceilings and they were not kidding. At 6 feet, I had to duck in places and still knocked my head in others. The stairway is fairly daunting for taller persons maneuvering with luggage bc of the low ceiling and turn. The room was well apportioned and decorated with 3 full size beds, there was also a fold out bed in the closet but no bedding and it does not appear there is any staff on site. But I will say that they are attentive in their correspondence and provide contact numbers. I believe they would have responded if we needed them. The bathroom had curated local soaps and bath salts and a rainfall shower head. Towels were also of nice quality. The main bedroom that my wife and I shared had a single bed, sitting area with a French press and was well decorated. One of my fave touches were the valet trays on the bedside tables. Our room also had a sound machine. Our three kids shared the other bedroom which contained two beds and a roll out bed (no extra bedding though). This room also had a sound machine. The sitting area had a couch, TV and small refrigerator with food and drink you can purchase - we had to have a discussion with our kids about why they should not consume these items upon arrival. The breakfast part of the business is a pantry that is equipped with yogurt, lots of granola, fruit, juice, coffee and assorted cookies. Definitely a light breakfast but sufficient. Also, finding the nook can be a little difficult since you had to cross over the second floor and come down a separate stair case. Would totally recommend this location for a weekend getaway with your spouse, not sure I would bring my kids again.

This inn is nestled on top a mountain with beautiful views and settled away from all the hustle of surrounding towns yet it's still easily accessible from the interstate. There's also a very nice convenient store located on the property perfect for getting gas, snacks for your journey. They offer a beautiful lobby with a nice continental breakfast and even have other purchasable meals and items if you so happen to forget something for your trip. The Inn Manager Chantel addressed any concerns immediately, efficiently. She was very kind and personable. It was a joy just chatting with her. Thank you Chantel for making our stay a memorable one.

The negatives: it was $130 a night, the bed was broken, the internet sucks, there's nothing to eat anywhere near, and it is a clearly reviewed by the owners/staff because I just can't see how it was rated a 9 on Hotels.com. I love to find little mom and pop places, I dislike the big chains generally. To find one that was rated 9 was too good to pass up, even though it was a little pricey. But I just can't see how this place got such a great rating. The bed was broken for one. There's no elevator to the second floor, and when you are exhausted and carrying bags, then you have to climb stairs, ugh! You get to your room and try to find the next place you are headed, and the internet dies intermittently. So no streaming your own shows or anything, no gaming for the kids, it is even difficult to do your research on where you are staying next. The place is clean but bring your slippers, the room isn't carpeted. That makes it much easier for staff to clean up after people's pets, I suppose, and we had no allergic reactions which was nice. The little refrigerator is on the floor, and the microwave is on a TV dinner table which feels a bit wobbly. There's a little sign in the room telling you that any infractions of their policy will cost you $250 in cleaning fees. The room was very very noisy. There is a laundry room or an ice machine very near ours that made all kinds of noise all night long. And the racket off the highway was a constant but it is also a positive since it is so easy to get back on the road. Oh and the room door was sticking making it hard to open. They gave us a code to key into the room and when we keyed it in, we thought we did it wrong because the door wouldn't open. It kept telling us the code was good, but wouldn't let us in until we shoved hard.

It always amazes me that people don't explore the cities within their state as well as states that border your own. West Virginia is no exception. If you ever feel the need to spend a weekend camping but also watching people base jump, then it doesn't get better than this. The New River Gorge Bridge gets closed for this one day of the year to celebrate the completion of its initial building. There are people jumping and rappelling down to the banks below. Camp out near and watch them come down or join the masses up on the bridge to watch from above. ~
