This is a wonderful little shop. They have a bunch of those topographical (3D) wood carvings that go so great on the wall. They are also at pretty decent prices, too. I've seen them in Tahoe for almost double the price. Primarily an apparel shop, there are many fun options to show-off your life at the lakes. Ceramics, melamine plates, playing cards, tumblers and canvas bags. We came away with a couple of cool 3D's for only $99 a piece, Great Lakes hats and a super impressive cork map of the holy land. So, you see, it's not all about Michigan lakes. They have a smaller selection. But more than enough. The young fellow there was playing some old school Epic and bent over backwards to help us. Cute, touristy shop with a decent variety of Northern Michigan logo t-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants, as well as other tourist gear you'd find in pretty much every t-shirt shop in the area. Prices were quite good, a tad bit lower than some of the competition, but not a lot of variety in smaller sizes. It was a bummer, because most of the cutest designs and best prices were on items that were, sadly, in the wrong size! Oh well. Nonetheless, the selection was good and the shop seemed pretty organized. Despite them not having an overly abundant supply of smaller-size stock (at least on the day that I visited), I thought the gear they did have was cute and well-priced. If you're looking for a cute, inexpensive souvenir, you could do worse than stopping into Momentum. Again, there's nothing really out of the ordinary about Momentum, but they have nice items at lower prices than some of the other nearby shops. They had some decent sale prices on most merchandise when I stopped in, and in some instances, they came with significantly less markup on similar t-shirts and souvenirs that I saw elsewhere. The staff seemed perky and friendly, but not overly so. They greeted me at the door and as I was leaving, but didn't hover. When shopping for souvenirs, that's what I prefer. If I need their assistance, I'll ask, but otherwise, I prefer they not stand over me like they're on commission or something. read more

Fun store we just wandered in-while walking in the cute downtown of Petoskey! Very Friendly sales people willing to help you!! Looked like a great selection of Petosky souvenir clothes + and more! Sadly i was on a time limited & had a young sweet girl help me! They just started a sale a week ago and I found several well made hoody's-cute-bright prints that were down to &7 from $49 to purchase! Amazing that they had them soo low--would of been a bargain at $19!!! (or more) I only wish I had more time to look around but for sure I will be back, next time i'm in the area!!! read more

While I love the products Momentum provides, I had an interaction with an employee at this store today that really set me on edge. I was shopping around Petoskey with my family today, and I and another family member had gotten drinks at a coffee shop. Momentum has a clearly placed sign on the door asking you not to take food or drinks into the store. Abiding by this, I offered to drink my own drink and hold the others outside while everyone else looked around the store. I stood out front for around five minutes, and after walking around all day as well, decided to lean against the window for a moment, specifically a corner area between panes (the closest spot to where I had been standing). This was all fine until I stood up and discovered that I had black silicone from between the panes all over the back of my nice rain jacket. While I was irked at this, particularly because there was NO sign mentioning new/wet silicone, I was willing to overlook it as my own mistake. HOWEVER, moments later, one of the employees ran out the store to see what had happened (I was then talking to some of my family members about it). When I showed her what happened, her only response was "Oh yeah, we just put new silicone there so it's still wet. And why would you be leaning against a glass window?!" Less than apologetic or even sympathetic. While I had no expectations for them to fix anything, I did not appreciate being reprimanded for simply leaning against their window for a moment while very carefully following their no food or drink rule. It is also nothing out of the ordinary for someone to lean against a wall/window while waiting. And maybe it's just me, but isn't it common courtesy to put up a sign when you have wet paint or something similar? Needless to say, I walked away upset and have no desire to give them my business in the future. read more

This is my favorite store in Petoskey! The clothes are made well and are very very inexpensive. The kitchen items, clocks and wall hangings are also amazing. This is a must stop in store! Rhonda help my father and I and was amazing. We could have stayed in the store all day! She is funny and very helpful. Ask her what you're looking for and she'll find it. She's honest, friendly and hilarious! After talking to her you leave the store happier! I purchased a lot of Christmas gift. Every gift was loved! My wife and I really like to visit this store every time we are in Petoskey, usually a couple of times a year on vacation. Last time we were there, we purchased a Lake Michigan clock as a present for my wife's boss. However, the clock mechanism seemed defective as it would use up batteries every couple of days. I contacted the store to see about getting it repaired or replaced, and was very happily surprised that the store manager quickly made the situation right for us. That's a great example of standing behind your products! I also really like the clothing this store sells -- it's high quality, yet the prices are some of the lowest in town for Michigan-themed products. Keep up the good work! read more

Very poor customer service. Got a nice heavy XXL "Petoskey Michigan sweatshirt as a gift 3 weeks ago and wore it once. Washed and dried it per tag instructions and it shrunk badly and unevenly. The front is now 5" shorter than the back and comes down to my belly button and the thing is too tight to wear! I called the store and was told that there was nothing they could do about it and postage (on me) to get it to them and possibly an exchange was more than the sweatshirt would be worth. The only possible alternative was to make the 300 mile round trip to show it to them??? It was not a low priced item. read more

At first glance you might think that Momentum is just another "tourist trap t-shirt shop": think again! As both a part-time resident and someone who loathes shopping, I found Momentum apparel and home decor items not only of high quality at affordable prices, but the employees were courteous, efficient, and informative without being "pushy". The owner is very rude and has poor business management skills. We spent $25 dollars on two shirts and needed to return one. The owner said we can only exchange and that the receipt which stated '7 days for returns on cash and CC' didn't apply to shirts. I definitely don't recommend and was very disappointed. read more
