The steak frites was incredibly dry and flavorless with absolutely no marbling. The bearnaise sauce had too much acidity to it and did not pair well at all with the fries or steak. I came here for brunch on a rainy day, so there were almost no other customers. Sitting outside on the back patio is a must. It feels like a little garden oasis. Our waiter was French and although he was nice, he wasn't very warm. It took an extremely long time for our food to come out. I didn't check the timing but if I had to guess, I think it was about 25 minutes. It would have been fine if we were there to drink and relax, but there were only 2 other customers and we had somewhere to be. Once we did receive the food, it was tasty. My friends enjoyed their Steak and Eggs, French Toast with fresh fruit, and create-your-own omelette with gruyere and delicious sautéed mushrooms. Because we were at a French restaurant I went with the Croque Madame and it was very tasty. The egg on top was slightly overcooked, but there was plenty of cheese and I finished the whole thing. The dish that was a miss was the side of Mac N Cheese. It was extremely bland, missing both cheese and salt. I've only tried 1) duck hash - which is pretty good, not too greasy 2) chicken waffle - I couldn't help but yelled @chicken waffle" when I saw the menu and the waitress told me that's her favorite dish. I went to Mominette several years back for a friend's brunch bridal shower in the outdoor garden. The garden is a quaint little space, with picnic tables and some smaller round tables, but was able to accommodate ~25 of us comfortably. I recall the drinks and brunch being good, but nothing particularly special. This past weekend, I decided to come back here for dinner, and opted to sit indoors. They have oyster specials every day of the week! I called before I went (on a Saturday evening), and was told that the oyster specials are from 5pm until close. We ordered the pearl points ($2), malpeques ($1), and the james river ($2). There is a minimum of 6 oysters per order. The malpeques had a very distinct meaty - almost creamy taste, with a nice crisp finish. My favorites were the pearl points - light, sweet with tender meat. My least favorite was the james river - rather mild taste, nothing memorable. They have a full bar here, and some of fancy-looking cocktails. I ordered the Smoked Garden which came in a martini glass and consists of Mezcal, St Germain, Lime juice, homemade rose syrup, a dry violet flower, and a SPICY Tabasco salt rim; my boyfriend ordered the New Fashioned which is made with Rye Whiskey, Carpano Antica sweet vermouth, maple syrup, orange, and peach bitters. I thought my drink looked very pretty and tasted good, however I accidentally took my first sip on the Tabasco salted rim and it was too spicy for my liking. For the appetizer, we ordered the escargots. The escargots were AMAZING. I've had escargots many times before, yet it's never impressed me as much as it did here. It was perfectly flavored in a buttery/garlicky sauce with onions and parsley, and the meat was so tender and not chewy at all. It was served with two pieces of warm toasty bread which went perfectly with the escargots. Arguably my favorite part of the meal! For the entree, I ordered the duck confit, and my boyfriend ordered the skate fish. The duck confit was served on top of a bed of watercress salad, and came with a side of freshly fried potato chips and a tomato confit topped with cheese. The duck leg was a smaller portion than I would have liked, but it was fried to perfection, and was very flavorful. My boyfriend's enjoyed his skate fish. The skate fish was prepared in a lemon caper sauce, and served with roasted potatoes and green beans - rather large portion. For dessert, we split the chocolate mousse cake which was served in a cute little mason jar. The mousse was a fluffy and chocolate-y deliciousness! Our entire meal (with a generous tip) came out to $150 total. Definitely worth it for 18 oysters, 1 appetizer, 2 cocktails, 2 entrees, and a dessert. My only complaint is that the music was way too loud - and we happened to be seated right next to the speaker. That aside, highly recommend ! read more

This restaurant is VASTLY overpriced for the quality of the food. I had dinner for the first time at Mominette last night with my family. The menu sounded appealing, but we found that the execution of the dishes was poor. For example, we shared an arugula salad with beets and cheese that was overpowered by a piquant dressing slathered on top. The same salad vegetables dressed properly would have been good but the application of the dressing was inexcusable. What were they thinking? French onion soup was poor -- it actually doesn't require a lot of skill to make a decent onion soup so it is hard to understand how the kitchen could turn out such an unappetizing version. A vegetarian pesto pasta dish was oily and poorly seasoned. Mominette either needs to lower its prices or increase the preparation quality. read more

You can make reservations online, and it tells you if you have to change the time you have to call to change it. But apparently it doesn't change in the system, as they weren't gonna let us sit down except good thing the system they didn't know about sent us a confirmation text for the time we changed it to. We made a reservation through yelp, but it was not necessary. Upon entry, we were greeted by the bartender (the bar is immediate when you walk in). Soon after, a server came and sat us down. The restaurant is cozy and intimate. It is dimly lit, and I would maybeeee deem it as rustic interior. The music was really good all night and created a great vibe. Old school r&b, and classic hip hop and alternative music were being played. We ordered 18 oysters, which was honored on the happy hour deal. The server informed us that this isn't typically done, but because the woman on the phone may have been new and confirmed the deal for us, they'd honor it. I was happy about that considering this was why we were there. There were three types of oysters and all three were delicious and fresh! I had the seafood pasta and he had the salmon. Both dishes were so tasty. Initially I was thinking my food was equivalent to a side order dish, but it was very filling and delicious. For dessert, we had the creme brûlée and the espresso martini. Both were so freaking yummy and a perfect way to end the night. The service was really good. Water was refilled immediately and we didn't have to wait for anything. I also loved how all of their servers had gloves and replaced them frequently considering we're in the middle of COVID-19. (Update: so Steven the owner messaged me and matter-of-factly said that we had missed the bottom of the sign that says they do not offer it during brunch. The server did not say this to us, so that I could look at the signage again and notice my mistake while I was there.) So... we had brunch here instead. I had the apple and bacon open face omelette and the plating didn't look so great - not appetizing. My plate overall was okay, but it was small. I also shared the french toast, which was not memorable. The employees were not very attentive and not friendly. Nice little place in Brooklyn near the House of Yes and Company XIV. The dollar oysters is a big selling point and came very fresh and delicious. I ordered the duck and licked the plate clean. My friends got burgers and very much enjoyed those as well. They also have happy hour prices for drinks until 7pm which helped the bill out quite a bit. I am thoroughly confused on why this restaurant has a 4 star rating. I ate there during a recent visit to Brooklyn and I was not impressed one bit. Upon arrival, I was not greeted. I stood there for a good 5-10 minutes and no one acknowledged me. The bartender had his hands full. A barback appeared but he went on about his business without looking my way. I waited patiently. A few minutes later, I saw the hostess appear from the garden. I walked towards the back where a hostess station was set up and asked about my reservation. He said he was too busy and needed to close some orders first so please wait in the front. I probably rolled my eyes as I was walking back to the front of the restaurant. That's when the bartender rushed over to assist me. Anyway, I got seated in the lovely garden. Hmm... the garden was not as lovely as I'd imagined. Let's put it this way. If you like to see big ass rats while you have dinner, then it might be a great place for you. As soon as I sat down, I saw something scurrying across the ground. It moved so fast that I couldn't catch what it was, but only rats move in this manner so deep down inside I knew what it was. Then I heard the table next to me saying "Let's get the hell out of here." I kept looking over at them trying to make eye contact. Even though they didn't say exactly, I knew why they said that. The rat. The hostess/server came over and he was nice I have to admit. Even though we got off to a bad start, I did not hold any grudges. He took my order and brought me my glass of water. A little while later, I was able to confirm that rats were indeed lurking. Not the small rats...the BIG NY rats! When he returned, I stopped him and told him that I think I see a rat. He was like "Yes, this just started happening and I think I actually see like two of them." At that point I requested to be moved inside. My dinner arrived and this was the fastest dinner I ever ate! I had the duck and fries. The duck was nice and crispy. It was on to of a bed of greens which I hated and some kind of tomatoes that were not tasty at all. Overall, the food was not good! This addition to Knickerbocker is absolutely wonderful ! The atmosphere is laid back, cozy, quiet, and dimly lit. The servers were all very nice. Luke (possibly spelled Luc) was my absolute favorite. He was very knowledgeable and his accent was so dreamy. Please make sure to sit outside! You will most certainly forget that you are on a busy street in Brooklyn. The outdoor seating area has a very private feel. The oyster selection was vast. You order oysters on a slip of paper and the paper is returned to you with the oysters in the order that they are written. This makes it very simple to figure out which oyster you're eating. The restaurant was clean and the service was great. My only gripe is the bathroom. It was not clean. It felt very different from the rest of the restaurant.
