I'd switch to this store if it weren't for her, but she's ruined my day on several occasions and I'm not giving them any more of my money until she's fired or deceased. Until then, I will drive 30 minutes out of my way just to avoid this piece of work. Also, the other negative reviews were likely caused by this woman, as I've seen her refuse legitimate forms of ID several times in a very rude manner to both military and civilians. They get one star for actually carrying what I drink and their decent vape prices, and one star for the chill young crew that works evenings some nights. All the other peter's are fine, and the one on the matagorda county line is the best; easily five stars.

That's sort of how I'd describe Surfside. Not a ton of stock, nor variety really, but they have all the major genres covered, general mixers and will get you to the place you seek. Probably more of a three star for me living near Specs on Smith downtown in Houston, but you learn to fine the silver lining where you can in life. Oddly enough, they have a few nicer bottles of tequila too, I assume the owners fancy. Staff are generally helpful, and always chatty. Just know going in that they've got the standards, you supply the recipe, and good times.

Dude at the register asked what I wanted, said any cheap whisky for my baking, he started questioning me asking why I wasn't using everclear for vanilla extract. Told him you can use vodka or whisky/bourbon. Looked at me like I was stupid, then pointed me to McCormick ($16). I looked over to the left and saw Kentucky bourbon ($10). Misdirected me and tried to upsell and take advantage. Should've just looked by myself instead of falsely taking the shop keeps word. He also mentioned that I have "no idea what I'm doing" I said I knew and insisted on telling me what to buy. Bought my Kentucky bourbon and left. Would never go back again. Shady and ingenuine. Oh and on top of that was smoking a cigar right in front of my face while trying to explain what makes a bourbon a bourbon as if I didn't already know, again, took a 16 week course oh the history of spirits/beer/wine for Vegas which is mandatory to be a bartender there. Didn't need the extra lecture.

The awful saleswoman told her the cheapest tequila was behind the shelf and sold her a $30.00 bottle of Dulce Vida Organic tequila in a 750 ml bottle. I am sure it will be acceptable tequila, but just the opposite of what I hoped to accomplish. Called and spoke to the lady that made the recommendation who remembered the transaction and said that was the cheaper tequila in the more reputable brands. Neither she or the manager would budge on a return. Horrible. Shame on me for not giving more explicit directions. Shame on Peter's for the terrible service. There was a manager at the door yelling at people about how they must traverse the insane labyrinth of the check-out line, which incomprehensibly forces you to go all the way to the back of the store and avoid closed off aisles etc. I asked the "manager" directing traffic about the sale on the Baby Blue because the 1.75 liter was according to the sale even cheaper than the 750 ml. bottle. She glared at me and said nothing. She called one of the male employees (the men are the only polite and helpful people in the shop), and he checked and double-checked his computer and assured me - politely and kindly - that the sale price was $40 for 1.75 liter of Baby Blue. I had several Thanksgiving recipes that I wanted to use bourbon for so I picked it up at that sale price. I withstood the women manager telling me where the line was supposed to start and then I came to the line of cashiers. All women. Normally in a place where they take your money they are cheerful and welcome you to their cash register. "Over here, I am open!" This did not happen. Three women on the registers and not a one of them looked up. I went to the first available assuming that they were just engaged in other things. "Is this register open?" I cheerfully asked. I was reaching for my wallet but my wife was with me and was paying attention and she later told me that the woman at the register rolled her eyes in an extremely rude way. She did not say a word to me as I checked out. I have never been treated more rudely in a shop. Anywhere. My wife could not believe what a b**ch the cashier was to me. She was all painted up in multiple pounds of make-up and three feet long eyelashes but she was totally hateful. She actually hated the people whose hard-earned money paid her salary. Like all of the women who work at Specs Angleton. And here's the kicker: the rude eye-rolling woman actually charged me ten dollars OVER the sales price for the bottle of Balcones. Even MORE than the non-sales price. I only noticed it when I was home, more than 30 minutes away from the store and not about to make another trip out there. The normal price was $48. The sale price was $40. She charged me $50. The female staff at Spec's Angleton literally stole from me because they for some reason resented me as a customer. They hate men? Never go there. It's also a pretty small store, less than half the size of most convenient stores. If you're coming here for craft beer, you're pretty much out of luck and they don't even seem to have much in the way of singles. They do at least carry Galveston Island Brewing beers and New Belgium. They do have a wine selection, but the prices are way out of line, even more expensive than convenience stores. These high prices may be due to its location near the beach and hotels. I'll give them credit for a decent liquor selection, including some single malt scotches, but once again the prices are fairly high. They also carry some Jell-O shots, cigarettes, cold drinks, and some mixers.
