My intention with this review is not to smear anyone's name but to warn potential clients of situations that may arise dealing with Mon Reve, specifically the business owner. I cannot speak for the other stylists, although they seem to be a bit more considerate. I had high expectations for my recent appointment with Nicole, as I had been saving up for this experience and had colored my own hair for the past 10+ years. I was referred to Mon Reve by a friend who noted Nicole was great with blonde but warned me about the cut-throat cancellation policy. Fair enough. During our consultation, I expressed my want for a blonde balayage and preference to avoid sparse highlights, fearing they might contrast with my natural hair color. Nicole proposed a combination of babylights and ribbony pieces which I agreed to, trusting her expertise. I also agreed to a partial highlight due to the time constraints, knowing I'd have to come back for the lower section next time. That was fine too. Although I was quoted an estimated $250 over the phone, the total increased due to my hair requiring an extra bowl of toner and extra lightening product, the latter she informed me in the middle of the session. I felt a little sick knowing the cost was more than I intended to pay but again, I expected to love it. The outcome was not as I anticipated. Highlights appeared sparse and gave an unintended illusion of gray strands. The "money piece" and root smudge we discussed were not noticeable. I knew Nicole could see I was disappointed because she asked if I had hoped for more blonde. She also admitted the result was not like the reference photos. I will say, she gave me a great blowout. I thanked her, tipped 20% and hid my disappointment. I called her on the car ride home to express my concerns and inquire about my options. She again explained that it was a process and that I needed to trust her, but offered another toning since my porous hair caused the toner to be more intense. I was actually ok with the tone of the blonde, just not the application. She called back and instead suggested we book an appointment for the next week, not clarifying cost. When I inquired about this via phone and email, I didn't receive a prompt response so I went ahead and cancelled the follow up to avoid getting charged 50%. While giving an overview to the receptionist I do not recall using the phrase "messed up", but there is a chance it came out of my mouth. Big mistake. The email response I received was shocking: rather than addressing the issues and making it right, Nicole labeled me incessant and neurotic. Since speaking up she has blamed my hair (thickness, color and porosity), the time frame, and the need for multiple sessions. I just don't know why she didn't just use the balayage technique to begin with. She called my hesitancy to trust stylists a "red flag"--when in actuality my fears were kind of realized with this experience. While I understand that achieving the perfect look can be a process, I cannot see myself spending another 400 to get the blonde I want. Going to see a salon with better business practices and consideration for the client, although they will have to work twice as hard to weave around the tiny blonde pieces. read more

ZERO Stars. If I could award negative stars I would. I thought I'd be safe with an Aveda salon but this was a mistake. They turned my hair ORANGE on top and blamed me saying that's what I wanted. They charged me $169.00 and when I asked them to fix it they tried to make me pay $245.00 to re dye my hair. I had to drive 5 hours back to Texas to have my stylist fix it and it still has a red tint. She couldn't even get it out completely without my hair falling out. Additionally, my WEDDING is 1 week away. They knew this coming in and STILL wouldn't help me. The girl that did my wack job also mentioned she sucked at doing color and she prefers just cutting hair. Nicole was 30 minutes late and kept trying to sell me products, even after I told her I was happy with my routine. She also brushed (ripped through) my curly hair BONE dry. Ouch. You should always brush curly hair DAMP (not dry or soaking wet) to minimize breakage. Moving on! When I made the appointment, I inquired, verbatim, about a "$20 haircut". I wasn't corrected, so i assumed it would be $20, and scheduled my appointment. It ended up being $20 off, so the haircut was actually $54 dollars ($75 before the coupon). I wasn't able to pay that upfront, which was so embarrassing! I have bad social anxiety, so I didn't want to argue. She gaslit me into thinking they were in the right. I wanted with all that is in me to like this salon. However, my experience was not what I expected from an Aveda Salon. First, the place is adorable, but loses its charm when you realize how close each station is. Stylist are not very friendly or welcoming, including owner. Second, and most important, my hair. I went in for a highlight and haircut. My hair was down to my waist, and I was wanting my hair just below my shoulders. My highlights were done pretty well (Aveda color is not what it used to be, my hair seems a bit damaged), however, once I got home I realized the top was a bit brassy, I reached out to my stylist and was brushed off, and was never contacted again about fixing it. The haircut, wow, that is in a class all by itself, not only was it about 6 inches to short, it is the worst haircut I have ever received. If you are looking for an Aveda Salon I would look elsewhere. read more

I usually go to the Aveda school in the area, but decided to check this place out when I saw they had a deal for new clients. I went in for a haircut and perm and was there for seven hours. I have thick hair, so I expected it to take a while but not that long. The results are alright, but honestly not better than what I've had done at the training school for half the price and half the time. Whatever chemicals were used were definitely less suffocating than when I've had a perm in the past. The place itself is cute and has a relaxing atmosphere. I had booked my appointment online where it told me what my price was going to be. When I checked out it was more than what it said online, I didn't get to use my new client deal, and nothing was said about the price discrepancy. That said, I didn't say anything about it either. I think overall we were both just ready to get out of there after so long. read more

This was by far the WORST salon experience I have ever had in my life! I went in for a trim, I wanted to cut off about an inch. I explicitly explained to the stylist, GIANNI that I only wanted a TRIM; I showed him on my hair Exactly how much I wanted him to cut off, while telling him Multiple times I want to keep my hair the same length and I only wanted to trim it. I did notice as I was explaining to him what I wanted, his body language was as though I was insulting him. I tried to brush it off and just thought maybe that is just his "personality." This experience took a horrific turn for the worst when GIANNI began to cut 4 INCH pieces of hair off of the back section of my hair!!! I was MORTIFIED!!! All GIANNI said was "it will be fine, it will still be long" I was completely appalled that he said that, to make the situation worse, he sat there with a smug attitude acting as though I was saying something wrong. I immediately took off the cape & was going to leave the salon with wet hair, but I was convinced to have my hair dried, Not by GIANNI! I sat there as my hair was dried and looked into the mirror; my eyes were red, filling with tears over this entire horrifying situation. I have long hair and I wanted to keep my length, I thoroughly and clearly explained what I wanted, there was absolutely no reason this should have ever happened. I've been coming here for a couple years now and I have never had less than excellent service. For the cost of a guys cut (a modest $25) Nicole always gives me exactly the haircut I ask for, or gives me a better suggestion, and is sure to style it before you walk out. Bonus: you get a nice wash including a second-to-none scalp and neck massage. But even before you sit down, they're sure to offer tea, coffee and a pastry if they have some left. read more
