I was looking online for hairdressers found this one I called made an appointment and I told the lady that I had a complex about hair dressers, I needed someone who listens and doesn't get scissor happy. The lady said " I have someone for you she's the best we have for layers . GREAT!!! I drove an hour to get to this location. Checked in. The lady who was assigned to my hair came to the waiting room and got me . Sat in the chair and told her .. even let her know that I had a complex with scissor, happy hairdressers, then proceeded to let her know , I wanted 1 inch off my length an I wanted my layers trimmed. It's taking me a long time YEARS to grow my hair out this long . I'm very upset and discouraged with hair with hairdressers, they all pay go to school to learn all these techniques . I don't wear hair extensions so I can't hide the slaughtering of my hair . I was so looking forward to having my hair cut done correctly and finding that one hairdresser that I can trust to listens and doesn't take it upon themselves to cut years off somebody's head . I don't understand why they cannot listen to the customer wants. Very unfortunate. I will never put my name and suggest this place. Made the appointment for my husband because I was ready to get out of town and didn't want to wait for him to go to his regular Barber. The cut was great! He keeps asking me if he can drive 2 hours there every few weeks to get his hair cut from there regularly! Absolutely not but as happy as he was tho we will probably stop anytime we are in the area. read more

Great environment. Inconsistent experience. Overcharged twice. Appointment canceled once by Refinery due to "double booking". Found Refinery on Yelp under "barbershops", tried to utilize a Yelp coupon the first time there and they refused to honor it and told me it didn't exist (attached). I had just left them positive feedback, despite cutting my service short due "only having time for a partial service". Went above and beyond, tried contacting the owner to share the customer experience so others would not experience the same. They have failed to contact me back. I've gone 4 times now because of the atmosphere, and have been delivered 3 failed experiences. This is my updated experience. My fade cost $70, maybe it will be used to refine customer service. Refinery is a not-too-fancy place. Guy can get a haircut in a half-hour. But it's a sophisticated cut. These folks know what they're doing, that's why I keep going back. Katie is a gem of a stylist. She knows what works for me and knows me well enough that she can speak directly as to the inadvisability of a Mohawk or a Mullet. And rightly so. Great place to get a haircut, and reasonably priced as well. I usually wait until I have visited a place a few times before writing a review, but I had a great experience at Refinery and don't know when I will be back (I don't live in Lafayette). The salon itself is very industrial, which I thought was a great design choice that goes well with the building. I was offered water upon arrival and then was taken to the chair for my cut. My haircut was definitely on the lower price end for a salon haircut and the stylist was friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely go back to her for another cut. The wash included a hot face towel, which was unexpected and awesome, as was the lengthy head massage. If this place was in NOLA it would be my new go to for haircuts. As is...if I know I'll be in Lafayette I may wait and then get my haircut when I'm back in town. read more

When I started coming to get hair cuts I loved this cool place downtown. The past 6 months it seems there is complacency. The last time I went my daughter cut her hair and was donating it. The hair cut was uneven, in an attempt to not correct, my daughters hair was curled. when I called the next day the were defensive and really annoyed that I dared call. I decided to give them a second chance a few days ago, and low and behold EVER with a picture, the girl cut my hair about 5 inches shorter than I wanted. Needless to say I am done. This is an amazing salon for both men and women. It has a very cool, laid back feel without being exclusive to one sex. My husband and I both get our hair done there. The owner, Renee does an incredible job with color. The other stylists are great as well. They offer many things you don't see at other places like a re-shade for men. This blends out gray hair and you can't even tell it has been dyed. Scheduling is convenient too bc you can do it all online. read more

* Go Here* I travel a lot for work and so keeping a regular barber, much less getting a reliable haircut while on the road is impossible. I was in desperate need of a haircut while in town so I started looking around. Being a guy with a full beard, I set out looking for a cut from an older gentalman named Rusty with knuckle tattoos and a salty demeanor about him where you knew he had seen some shit in his days as a roadie for Led Zeppelin or as the VP of the Hells Angels back in the 70's. Therefore I was a little apprehensive about going to what looked like an upscale salon. However when I saw you got whiskey in a highball glass while you waited, I figured "How bad could this place really be." The short version is this place is amazing! I called the day of and they were able to fit me right in. I went right to a chair and gave the stylist a general idea of what I was going for with a new haircut and a beard trim and she took it from there. They really know guys cuts and also throw in a little dude pampering while you're there, which really beats the complimentary knife fight that Rusty might throw in to see what your bill afterwards was going to be. If I'm ever back in the area, I will definitely be back and you should go to! read more

Never again! To start off I had long hair, almost down to the butt, I wanted to get it cut to my collar bones. Which is a nerve racking decision all in itself. I haven't gotten my hair cut in probably 3 years and that was just a trim. I just recently moved here and I'm still learning the best places to go, so when in doubt, yelp it! Yelp had great reviews for The Refinery. Awesome! Apt. set. I didn't wait long at all for my hair stylist. I showed her pictures of what I wanted and she acted like it was no biggy. I barely talked to her as she cut my hair because I wanted her to have her full attention on what she was doing. She ended up curling it at the end and I was pleased for the most part (still adjusting to having short hair). The next day I straightened my hair and looked at the back to make sure I straightened it all. I was appouled! She did a horrible job on my layers. It looked like she just pulled my hair up and cut it, not blending it and making it look natural. But during Christmas, I'll look like a festive Christmas tree! I then realize that she also didn't evenly cut my hair at the bottom. But if I tilt my head to the side you can't tell a thing. I wanted to go back and have someone fix it with no cost, but I'm honestly done with that place. For an expensive salon, they should have done a way better job! I'm sure if I asked my boyfriend do it would have come out better. And he's a mechanic. : / No matter how cool the building looks on the inside, I will never again sit in the chair and stare at the pretty walls for that kind of money and end up looking like a bah humbug. read more

I was visiting from out of town and thought it would be fun to get a new style while in Lafayette. I booked my appt a week ahead using Refinery's online booking. When I arrived for my appt I was told they had no record of it. Now, technology glitches happen but my gripe is that they made no effort to accommodate their error even though I was available at any time that day or the next day. My fiancé got his hair cut here and it looks so good!! I'm sorry I don't remember her name, but she has short brown hair with glasses on the left side three booths down. Also, my cousin was waiting with me and she was unhappy with her haircut from a place in Lake Charles. She asked a stylist if she should have got her hair thinned out a bit and the stylist fixed the errors with her hair and now it looks fabulous!
