Malfunction machine wasn't working correctly, but yet he seem to not do his job and shut it down as I did not notice me putting my money inside the machine and winning a large amount after reporting it that it just kept spinning and taking the money when I tried many times, to cash out he literally called to report from that day. He never showed up to return until today. He lied to my face and told me that he already paid me in full, which he did not. Then he tried to send me to someone else to get my money back, which is not right at all. When I mentioned that I will just report this he started arguing with me . They used to have a great selection and friendly staff here, but it seems to have gone downhill since it got new management. Now I feel like an inconvenience anytime I go up to buy something or ask for help--glared at by the guy working there, who's usually on a loud phone call or playing a video game and seems pissed that I'd interrupt him to make a purchase. First off, the people who work here are amongst the friendliest I have encountered at any local convenience store. They remember my buying preferences, go out of their way to make friendly conversation and always seem to be in a pleasant mood. That alone would merit the 5 star review but what really puts things over the top is that they carry my favorite beverage of all time: The Bud Light Lime STRAW-BER-RITA. Whenever a new product comes out that looks particularly disgusting I purchase one as a gift for a friend. I try it myself first because fair is fair. There are a lot of ways that they could have gone wrong with this drink but it is not overly sweet, does not contain clam juice and is reasonably priced. The best part about this drink is that it actually gives you pleasant breath (rather than standard beer breath) even when inevitably you drink 15 cans of it in a single afternoon. Also, the size and shape of the can allows men to drink it without feeling too effeminate. Some might assume this to be a girly drink but it actually packs a respectable 8% ABV and has not been proven to increase estrogen levels. This couldn't be any better. The folk are always friendly, and happy to engage in a real conversation. They have lots of little things - from antifreeze to diapers. They sell booze. It's near my house. It's open late. It's beyond convenient. It's legendary. It probably isn't the cheapest place, but you know what? I just moved down the street from here in October. Before that I was a few blocks over on manor rd. Like 5min from RBM Mart. RBM Mart was my jam for years. And let's face it, they have Taco Window right there as well. So, they are straight flexing all the time. Still hold an eternal spot in my heart for my soldiers over at RBM Mart but I'm not walking over there from my new pad. Monarch is right down the block from me now. Of course I'm gonna frequent this bad boy. I smoke a lot of cigarettes and constantly need delicious Gatorade. Plus as a 1up they have a delicious taco trailer outside.. I like this place more than most convenience stores for the following reasons: 1. Part of the movie "Waking life" was filmed here. 2. The folks at the counter get you in and out fast. 3. The folks at the counter have a good sense of community and want to know their ever changing neighbors. 4. There is a real cool image of a butterfly on the front of the store. 5. Eh. I normally dont write reviews on corner stores, but they have a sign on the door saying " customers on yelp love us". I arrived at 6:55 am, not knowing they open at 7am ( which is why i read the yelp note) . Apparently 7am is a suggested time, the guy opens arrives about 7:05, he doesnt say anything, not " sorry i was stuck in traffic" nothing. He doesnt smile or even hold the door open so we can follow him in.. That mark-up on beer is the cost of not having to lock your bike (or park your car far from the front door) or wait in a long line; the beer choice is better than most convenience stores. The wine selection is ridiculously good...I've stopped at Monarch many times when I was late for a dinner date after promising I'd bring wine. The two brothers (either Indian or Pakistani...I asked once, but I forgot...alas, my only deep conversation with both of them simultaneously was in a drunken stupor and I have yet to build up the nerve to ask them everything I should already know) who work the front counter are awesome; if you're in enough they'll recognize you and you'll follow their lingo learning progress. If you're a driver parking can sometimes be bad, but never for long and never really that bad. Bikers beware of the drivers pulling in and out of this lot. read more
