One is for meat and the other pasta and they are across the street from each other. I'm in Argentina, so I went for beef. I was greeted upon entry and was given my choice of seats. It was early, so the restaurant was empty. There are a lot of tables, both inside and out. It is very well lit and not too noisy. I could carry on a conversation without issue. By the time I finished dinner, the restaurant was completely full, and for good reason. The food is outstanding. I always start with an empanada when I am in Argentina and they had lamb, which I have never had, so I tried it. Simply amazing! The crust was light and flakey and the meat filling was tender and delicious. I will likely go back this week just to get another one of these. I followed that up with a caprese salad. It was good, but didn't think to ask for balsamic vinegar until after I was finished with it. The balsamic would have taken this dish over the top. After much contemplation, I decided on the picanha. It was tender and delicious. Cooked perfectly and most certainly too much for me to eat. It pained me to see it go, but I have no way to store or reheat it. Piegari is an amazing restaurant that is now on my list of must go to places when I am in this beautiful city.

That's what we've gotten anywhere else in the world when ordering that item. These were grilled, like a steak. AWFUL. Tough, minimal flavor and 60% waste -- LOTS of bones, fat and gristle left on the plate. Complained to the staff and manager, was offered a free dessert to make up for a $70.00 special entree that was inedible. Anywhere else, that item would have been dropped from the bill. They came back with a discount from the check equal to about 1/4 the price of the short ribs. Badly cooked and delivered product, and even worse response to a vocal customer complaint about same. So my second visit, while very good indeed, allowed me to focus on parts of the menu that I'd enjoyed previously while not over-filling myself on provoleta. What that looked like was this: Multiple versions of empanadas, Choripán (basically a sausage sandwich), and flan, all accompanied by beer and wine and all enjoyed at a very reasonable price. TripAdvisor guests rate El Sanjuanino very high as do I. I have a hunch it'd be the place I'd return to repeatedly each time I found myself in Recoleta. It's casual and delicious - especially the provoleta - attracting both Argentinians and in-the-know travelers. You'd be wise to count yourself amongst them.

The atmosphere inside is warm and charming, exactly the kind of place you want to linger over a long meal. We shared two pasta dishes, both light yet surprisingly satisfying -- the kind of portions that feel just right rather than leaving you stuffed. The standout was the lemon sauce over the tortellini: perfectly balanced, bright, and simply flawless. A genuine 1-of-1. The second time I attended was this morning. I wanted to get a quick bite to eat and some coffee. Again, went in and was completely ignored by the lady that was at the entrance which greeted a couple that got there right before me. I had to ask if it was okay for me to seat and they scolded me for asking where after they already said I could seat anywhere. I ordered my food and left with the feeling that they seemed to be annoyed and that's a weird way to treat a paying costumer. Anyway, food was good.
