NO GOOD!!!!!! They assume that their customers have unlimited financial resources. It is essential to carefully review the estimated costs before proceeding with any services. Check whatever box you want on the form they send you but it means nothing once they have your credit card on file. I had a generator rebuilt, but the impeller was not replaced, after sitting on there work bench for 5 months resulting in additional costs. After spending $15,000 on the initial rebuild, I was quoted an additional $3,000 to fix the impeller issue. That should have been done while on there bench. However, I found an alternative service provider who completed the repair for half the cost. He was outraged at what they wanted to charge me. (The mechanic said they have a very bad name in the industry.) This experience has led me to question their pricing practices. Over the course of two years, I have spent $30,000 on their services. Despite this, they did not provide any complimentary services, such as a startup for my boat in the beginning of the season but had the balls to tell me they pulled my boat and tied it up, but sent some stupid shit in the mail as a thank you. lol. Furthermore, when I encountered issues with a rebuilt pod, I was asked to pay for the repair. They installed my exhaust wrong so no water came out the exhaust, if they threw in the start up they would have seen that. I would strongly advise others to explore alternative options. It appears that their business practices prioritize profit over customer satisfaction. As a business owner myself of a 4 generation company I understand the importance of providing quality service and value to customers. Giving a little back goes a long way. THEY ARE NO GOOD. Do NOT take your boat here!! These people are not trustworthy and will milk you for every penny you have. They already are in litigation with the US Department of Defense for fraud. I really wish we had known that before we brought our boat here. Beware if they say something is cracked, worn or broken and needs to be replaced. If they even actually remove and replace will be a shocker, and make sure you actually see the part they put back in. They might say it's a high quality part, and bill you for the high quality part, but it will surely be the cheapest part they can find. They just don't get back to you. They don't answer phone calls. The worst. Charged me over $10,000 to do major repair work on my boat, didn't fix many of the issues. They wanted to bill me additionally to redo the exact same repair while the work was still under warranty. Brought it to a reputable dealer and find that much of the work they billed me for was not done. Some of the work that they charged for new parts was simply the old parts epoxied together, and of course, the repairs didn't hold, which actually put me at risk on the water. Then I come to find out that they are charged with allegedly defrauding the U.S. Department of Defense by selling the federal government cheap substitute products while billing them for the more expensive parts. As a United states coast guard captain, I know a thing or two about boats and repairs. I Brought a Generator down to those folks who promised it would take at the most 2 weeks to look at. Diesel, Generator was running perfect on the engine side, but putting out less than the 12 volts. After calling and calling and calling and excuse after excuse they finally looked at my generator. 11 weeks later! Charged me for a broken starter which worked perfectly when I dropped it off, Charged me for a fuel solenoid which was working when I dropped it off and told me the generator wasn't putting out the correct voltage and might be cheaper to buy a new one. AFTER CHARGING ME $1300. AND HAVING MY GENERATOR FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS, MOST OF THE SUMMER! I recently used Monmouth Marine to do a pre-buy engine survey (2) engines + (1) generator. Michael was great with scheduling and Viktor was very thorough and did a great job with the survey. During the survey we found some items that needed to be addressed before I could close on the boat. Ken was awesome and definitely went above and beyond. He got the repairs scheduled the same week, ordered/rushed parts, and had his guys there working hard to get the pod repairs, among other items, complete. They really went beyond what I would have expected a company to do in regards to making this all happen for me and ensuring everything was done the way it should be. As the boating season in NJ nears most of us are going to find that the off season has been unkind .. If you find that your boat needs repairs I CANT RECOMMEND USING Monmouth Marine Engines ... In 2013 my family inherited a boat from my late father . It took until the summer of 2014 to fix the damage it sustained from hurricane Sandy . Just before august 2014 we purchased a slip for $1600 then set a launch date for aug 5th . We were trying to salvage as much of the fluke season as we could before pulling the boat from the water .. On aug 5th , just prior to launching the boat , we decided to run the engine . A short time after starting the engine we found that the impeller was bad . A family friend that had walked up to watch told us not to worry that an impeller fix would only be take a few days depending on the place where we took its work load . Next he recommended Monmouth Marine . A few others guys that were standing in the area laughed then told us not to take it to MM . Since we didn't know of any other repair shops in the area coupled with the fact that a friend had just recommended them we placed a call to MM . A short time later a work order was set up . Although we were disappointed that the launch had to be cancelled we figured whats the big deal waiting another week and the boat will be totally fixed . 2 weeks passed & we did not hear anything from MM . Early on a thursday afternoon my family member placed a call to the shop to find out the status of the repair . The woman that had answered explained that she wasn't sure of the status but would find out then call back in a few hours . Hours went past without any call back . Early friday i decided to place a call . I spoke to a woman who said she recalled the call yesterday then told me that she would find out the status of the repair then call me back . Hours went by & SHE NEVER CALLED BACK . I didn't receive a call back Saturday , sunday or Monday . Finally tuesday i called again . After some time waiting i was told that a bolt had broken & the part had to be taken to a machinist to be drilled out .. Though still annoyed that i never got a call back i chalked it up to bad luck then hung up the phone . Approximatley a week and a half later , closer to 2 weeks , i began to get curious how the repair was going . So far an impeller job , that was supposed to take a few days has turned into a month ... Far worse was the horrible communication between the shop and myself . I called the shop to find that the work had to be halted because the repairman that was working on the impeller had hurt his back . Well into september i was forced to call MM again to check the status of my repair ... Not to my surprise the woman that answered the phone had absolutely no clue what was going on & in formed me that she would find out then call me back . SHE NEVER CALLED BACK AGAIN .. At this point i was starting to take this a little personal . A few days later i called back to find that the repair had been completed .. It was approx sept 20th .. To add insult to injury the woman told me that the repairman had found something wrong with the way the gears were shifting & they needed to be repaired . I immediately advised her to have the part put back on the engine & that we would be bringing our business elsewhere . At this point my family and i decided to take the $1600 boat slip hit , OUCH , then wait until 2015 to put the boat in the water . Extremely disappointed but what can ya do . At the beginning of april 2015 one of my family members drove past the boat . What they found was the bottom portion of the engine that MM had supposedly fixed wasn't there. A call to MM marine actually yielded an immediate answer . The woman said " the part was placed on the boat like you told us ." Hmmmm ! What could that mean ? A climb onto our boat found the part lying on its deck NOT CLOSE TO BEING PROTECTED FROM THE ELEMENTS ... February 2015 was one of the snowiest months i can remember and the part was buried in it . Now it is a boat part & boats love the water but is this particular part supposed to be exposed to snow or wet ...I DONT KNOW but what i do know is if you take something from somewhere you put it back where you found it !!!! Sometime in september 2014 i went on the MM website . On the site they have a beautiful company mission statement written . In my opinion DONT BE FOOLED BY IT !!!! I never found MM prices to be bad but the NON adherence to their mission statement which touts the relationship with their customers to be #1 needs to be seriously worked on . scam artists!! if youre not a local then stay away!! we had a newly rebuilt motor already in the boat and we got charged for a new fuel pump for $1100 even though it was new! the real problem was a carburetor adjustment my bf called there to pick up the boat and they told him that the trim was stuck in a down position after he told them he was an electrician and they wanted to charge him additionally when he arrived to pick up the boat and check the wiring, they had unplugged the harness to the trim the fact that they tried to take advantage as a new boat owner is dishonest business practice which should go out of business immediately!! read more

needed a volvo penta marine mechanic. was referred by west marine, set up appointment..they cancelled the first appt due to mechanical error on their machine. they rescheduled for next day to come to our marina at 11am. mechanic showed up 45 mintues late. did "diagnostic testing" on boat engine until 1:50pm. he could NOT tell us what the problem was. would send us a written estimate.. next day had a friend come and take a look to see ..he said we needed a new coil. purchased that day and motor started right up and has been running since then. we received an email 2 days later from monmouth marine and was told motor needed to be torn down to find problem at 130.00 per hour for 6 hours..received invoice where they charged us for 4 hours..told them mechanic was not there for 4 hours, they stated travel time...bullcrap...no travel time..only 6 miles away from main office..not my fault where mechanic was coming from.. they credited me the difference.. DO NOT USE THEM...IMCOMPETENT...UNQUALIFIED...would NEVER USE OR REFER THEM AGAIN... read more
