Went here on a college visit and was impressed with the campus. Located in Long Branch near the Jersey Shore is a good place to go to school. The beach nearby and plenty of activities is a good start. The actual campus was much more scenic than I thought. Very impressive. The professors and students that we met on the visit were all very nice and informative. The students seemed to be happy to be attending the university and had seemed eager to promote the student body and faculty. My daughter would like to major in Marine Biology and both professors we met in that field were great. Made me wish I was going to college listening to them. Both were very knowledgeable and helpful. I would think that the classes they taught would be great. My daughter is still looking but they made a great impression. Definitely have your kid at least give them a look. read more

This review is not of the University per se. I leisurely strolled around DiMattio gallery in Rechnitz Hall viewing the Senior Fine Art Show and saw my niece's artwork being showcased among others. It was very enjoyable seeing her emulating the 20th century surrealists ie. Dali and Magritte. Artwork on both floors were displayed and open to the public. One could cycle thru the gallery to view the works of these Seniors. This show exemplified the talent and hard work of the art department at Monmouth University. read more

After visiting Monmouth University which is a private University in West Long Branch several times, I can actually say this is a beautiful campus with very friendly students and faculty. I am so impressed how truly nice everyone is. I stopped several people on the grounds, some students and some staff for directions. Everyone was extremely helpful and accommodating. All 168 acres and the grounds are kept immaculate. There are approximately 58 buildings on the property. It's very easy to get around by walking or by driving. If you are handicapped they can use golf carts to get you around the campus for a tour. This isn't a huge school, which gives Monmouth a cozy and comfortable feel to their campus. It was founded in 1933 as a Junior College, then eventually in 1956 it was rename Monmouth College, and in 1995 it became Monmouth University. Woodrow Wilson Hall was know as Shadow Lawn Mansion. It was built in 1929 as the private residence of former F.W. Woolworth Co. president Hubert Templeton Parson and his wife Maysie. Philadelphia architect Horace Trumbauer and his assistant Julian Abele, who was the first African-American professional architect, who designed the mansion in the neoclassical French tradition. If you visit admissions and the financial aid office, you can see the elaborate designs that are on the ceiling and walls along with the magnificent chandeliers. It's pure elegance at its finest. Wilson Hall was the backdrop for the movie Annie in 1982. Wilson Hall was used as Daddy Warbucks Mansion. It has been used in TV commercials and print ads. In 1985 it became a National Historic Landmark. You can get a private tour at the college. ( you must first sign up.) Monmouth is ranked as a D1 college in Football and has an amazing stadium to watch the games. They also recently completed a So Sweet A Cat Field Hockey Field (2018), and a new Outdoor Track and Field Facility (2018), Graduate Center at Monmouth Park Corporate Center (2018), Edison Science Building (2017), Kessler Stadium (2017), Pozycki Hall (2015), Hesse Hall (2014). They added the Cinello Bowling alley. It's a four-lane bowling alley inside Boylan Gymnasium which opened in Fall 2014. There is the Murray and Leonie Guggenheim Memorial Library. It was the original structure of the Beaux-Arts Mansion. It was designed by Carrère and Hastings. It was also added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 28, 1978. The Guggenheim estate also included a stable and carriage house across the road on Cedar Avenue. This has been converted into the Lauren K. Woods Theatre. All the on campus dorms are within walking distance to all the classes. There are off campus University approved dorms called the Bluffs and Pier Village. They are only a mile away and decent for upperclassmen. If you need to have a car you can do so and the cost is $350 a year. There are limited spots. If you live off campus there's no charge. I also want to point out this school prides itself on being diverse and accepting of everyone. They have their own real Police department on campus. Everyone in the Spring must take a sexual harassment training course in order to register for summer or fall classes.Its mandatory for everyone. Rebecca Stafford Food Court, Dunkin' Donuts, Magill Commons residential dining hall, Shadows, Plangere Center, Bey Hall Express, a Convenience Store and the Café at the Library are just some of the places for dining. The food was decent. The book sells everything you need like Monmouth logo clothing and school books. All in all my time spent at Monmouth University was a pleasant one. It was an absolute pleasure to visit here. My friends gave me an in-depth tour , wow!! What a spectacular place rich in history. I felt something took me aback. I had the opportunity to chat with a few students and it seems well worth the price you will pay to stay on campus. Personally Education in America is over priced. Went to a show at the Lauren K. Woods Theater to see Always...Patsy Cline. What a fabulous venue this was! The theater is very small & seats are leveled up for a great view from all seats. The show was top notch & Regan Richards (Patsy) sounded fabulous belting out the songs. The sound system was perfect. This was my first show at this theater but it will not be my last! read more

Wonderful university!! The campus is overall beautiful and their landscaping is immaculate ! Their campus features multiple historic buildings and athletically pleasing sculptures. It's a perfect school to go to if you truly enjoy nature and the environment around you. Not to mention, you're only a short walk away from the nearest beach! Their education program is known to be a very prestigious one throughout the east coast and the networking that comes with this major will really benefit you in the long run. After completing your career at Monmouth, their team of experts and community of teachers will do their best to assure that you get a job or become part of an internship program as soon as you leave their campus. read more

Make of it what you will. Literally. I went to Monmouth as a Computer Science undergraduate. The school was not very selective and I had heard rumors that the students tended not to be on the bright side, so I was initially somewhat skeptical. Once I arrived and settled in, however, I began to see that while some of the students tend to be superficial, there are other students who are willing to work at their education - and professors who will go far out of their way to support them. By forming a network with these students and professors - particularly those within my major - a whole world of opportunities opened up to me. I'll begin with the environment and demographics: Monmouth is a small suburban school with approximately 5,000 students, most of whom live off-campus (but only about 20% actually commute). It's about a mile from the shore and the campus itself (which used to be the summer home of Woodrow Wilson) is quite beautiful besides. The combination of proximity to the shore and the low standards for admission tend to give Monmouth students an apt reputation as superficial partygoers and slackers, and you may be greatly disappointed if you attempt to start an intellectual discussion with just anybody. However, deep within many majors (no one else gets to that point; the attrition rate can be high, but all of the dropouts are the ones who won't do any work), there are a few students who are bright and diligent and put the rest to shame. These are the students you will eventually come across and they will make it all worth it, but why wait? Actively seek them out! On professors: As usual, professors vary in warmth, effectiveness, and competence. Since Monmouth is a small institution primarily involved in teaching, it is very easy to receive personal attention. This is a great boon, because if the professors respect you, they will open up *all* sorts of doors. Among other activities at Monmouth, I was recommended for a math tutoring position, acting as an officer of the campus ACM chapter, doing research, and membership on the STE advisory committee by my professors. Speaking of research, that's another issue: not all professors at Monmouth do significant amounts of research or want to involve students in it. However, if you plan on going to grad. school or are curious as to how novel research is actually conducted, it is worthwhile to spend a bit of time working with a professor. You may even get a publication out of it. Campus food was mediocre when I was a student, though it has greatly improved in the last two years and is now far better than standard fare at most campuses. The university in general is actually on the rise. The new President has done a very effective job of promoting and governing the university, and it shows in every area. All in all, Monmouth is what you make it. If you spend all day partying, you'll probably never graduate. If you show up to class but don't make any effort to learn, you're going to have holes in your knowledge. But if you show an honest effort to learn, you will be noticed - and where you can take it from there is entirely up to you. read more

I am truly sorry if you have come in contact with Monmouth University administration. If you haven't let me tell you, they are unreasonable, lazy, and rude. They have done nothing about situations between students, and are constantly bias when it comes to these problems, especially when it comes to disputes between roommates. Not to mention when parents try to intervene they shoot them down immediately. I truly hope they turn it around because right now it seems like a joke to me. They will be receiving 1 star due to their lack of capability to run a fair and equal school. read more

Very Poor Ethics- Parents Beware--Don't let this happen to you.......before you enroll your child here, read and ask questions about the fine print regarding their withdrawal appeal policy. They took me for $3,599.00. Here's how: My daughter enrolled 9/10. I gave them $7,736.00 for one semester. After a month, she got ill, could not continue, and withdrew. They gave me back 68% of the money. I appealed the decision and asked for additional credit. Their Refund and Appeal policy states "An event that occurs that is beyond human control and causes a student to be unable to complete attendance in a given semester may be appealed for additional credit. Such events would include illness, accident or family tragedy relating to the student. I have proven to the Court my illness in the documents attached. The definition of "illness" is unhealthy condition; poor health; indisposition; sickness. They claim my daughter used up 38% of the tuition for one month and approximately 20.00 hours of actual education time. This is pure GREED on their part. I then went to Court in Monmouth. I supplied the doctor's note stating the illness, stating she could not continue and stated she was advised to withdrawal. Because the Judge said the doctor's note I supplied was not proper medical documentation and the fact they had a lawyer, I lost. I then went and got all of my daughter's comprehensive medical records and applied for a new motion in Court. I sent the records to the court and to Monmouth proving to them there was indeed a medical condition that forced my daughter to withdraw. Monmouth again denied the additional refund. And, again I lost in Court because the Judge said I should have had those records the first time in Court. Being ProSe, I did not know that. So now they have unjustifiably kept $3,599.00 and I am here to warn all parents that "just because a school has a clearly defined policy, they have unscrupulous ways of getting around it". I enrolled in Monmouth Universty at the ripe old age of 19. As a freshmen, I spent my downtime on that one couch in the strudent center (If youve been there you know what Im talking about) anywhoo I think this school is just downright fabulous when you get down to it( but not in a gay way) The people are friendly the classes are passable and just throwing it out the to the girls in N suite in Laurel Hall. I think the peak of my first semseter here at Monsters University was when I took my Western Civilization in World Perspective. My professor showed more enthusisiam about ancient civilization than anyone I've ever encountered. I mean like even today when we were discussing Vatel ( Im still not sure who this is) some guy walked in a took our party pizza (long story) and my professor was so engaged that he didn't even realized someone had walked in. I only gave this review one star because I wanted you to read it in its entirety. Seriously go here the campus is beautiful and they have jersey Mike's in the Student Center. Toodooloo ;) read more
