We just…read morespent two nights in Zermatt and Hotel AMBiANCE was a sanctuary for our stay- centrally located but away from the crowds of Bahnhofstrasse. Room was a Junior Suite with Matterhorn view. Incredibly comfortable, clean and well designed to have space to relax and decompress. Room matched pictures and exceeded it as you can't see the room's balcony in the photos. That provided a wonderful place to sit in the early morning or at sunset to watch the alpenglow. The inn is family run and the pride of ownership comes through in every detail - Stephanie and Alain were wonderful hosts. Breakfast selection was perfect for diverse tastes/dietary restrictions - critical when traveling with others :) Inn includes a sauna and whirlpool to allow you to relax after a long day of hiking, skiiing or other adventures. Of course, none of this is the fault of the hotel or my party. Bad things happen, it is how you deal with them that counts. I booked through their site directly - cut out the middle man and increase their margin - so I thought I was doing them a little favor. We knew at least 1 week ahead of time that we couldn't make it into Zermatt and let them know. Unfortunately, they refused to give us any refund or credit - I guess they are following their rules. At the same time, we are out thousands of $$$ because we tried to help them out a bit. My advice is to NOT book directly with this hotel, instead, work with a booking company that will protect you in case of odd circumstances. I learned that the Ambiance is going to return any favors... Finally, I will note that all (4) of the other hotels and condos (in other parts of Switzerland) gave us our money back without question or hesitation.

The hotel has nice finishes, kind of modern mountain style, and our room was on the top floor with wood beam paneled vaulted ceilings. The bath tub was big enough for both of us, and the spa amenities were great. There is a humid sauna, dry sauna, upstairs sauna and outdoor hot tub, and a massage treatment room. The bartender gave us a Welcome drink (you can choose from prosecco, beer, or wine), and we got a cocktail afterwards as well. Mine was the 22 Summit cocktail which was a cucumber refresher and it was one of the best cocktails that I had the entire time I was in Zermatt. Staying here made us not want to leave, and I wish we had stayed here another night before our trip ended! Great hotel.

Checking in was super easy. The front staff is super sweet and walked us to the room, helping us with our luggage. A warm welcome after walking outside in the cold. The room itself is awesome. It's a bit bigger than I thought it would be, which is a total plus! My only complaint is that there isn't too much room for large suitcases. Other than that, I love it. Bed firmness is perfect. Similar to my bed at home. Soft top layer but firm base mattress. Not too firm, just right! The spa is small but very clean and relaxing. The jacuzzi is a nice size and has a beautiful view is the snow covered rooftops. Breathtaking! The location to me is ideal! It's about a 15 minute walk from the city center, but the streets are quiet and peaceful. Which is what I wanted! Overall, this place has been amazing so far! The check-in process was smooth and very easy, which set the tone for a great stay. The room was truly unforgettable. I had a balcony overlooking the main shopping street, and the views were incredible. One of the most unique features was the ceiling windows--at night, we could see the stars right above us, and in the morning, we woke up to light snowfall and a clear, breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. It was an unbelievably spectacular experience. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar on the first floor, both of which were excellent and added even more convenience and enjoyment to the stay. That theme is evident in every carefully crafted piece of this gorgeous property and being a guest here is very much a privilege. The arrival was welcomed with a view of the majestic Matterhorn right from the steps of the entrance. Next, being seated on a comfortable sofa, introduced to the property and given a welcome glass of sparkling wine. CERVO is rustic and adds a lot to the spirit of Zermatt's traditional architecture, some of it original and some of it, like CERVO, much much newer. The rooms are tastefully and uniquely appointed, with an interesting element of cloth walls that I have not seen anywhere before. All the amenities in the room are there for comfort and to blend in with its natural environment. The highlight is the sauna with a window and view inside every chalet. It is empty and quite private. After a day in the woods, it is hard to rival that. Then, there is the breakfast restaurant. Prepare to taste lots and lots of different regional cheeses that likely few have heard of before outside of the area. There is a solid menu of selections. The lunch osso bucco was excellent. The people working here are young, yet surprisingly well skilled at what they do. Kind, helpful and go above and beyond. CERVO is simply perfect. It is cozy and special, being a guest here is really a privilege.

They smoke freely here which is a no for me. Dinner notes below. Service is unfortunately slow. They seem to be understaffed. It took several requests to get water and pita refills. Setting is dark and eclectic. Wine selection is solid. Mezze to start, with pita chips, hummus and eggplant as standouts. Kofte was interesting but the tabbouleh had a disconcerting consistency. The Korean fried chicken was too salty and sweet. The eggplant curry was a hit and happened to be a massive portion. Fries were pedestrian.

From our balcony (one of two in our room) we had a view of the Matterhorn mountain and the Kirchplatz town square where there were performances in the evening. The room was elegant and well-maintained. There was a living room area with a desk, a table for four, a sofa, coffee table, and a Bluetooth enabled stereosystem. There were two bathrooms and a walk-in closet area with four large closets. There was a television in each of the two principle areas. The hotel staff was great. They provided information about the local lifts, trains, spa-gym, restaurants, and other town services. When I mentioned that one of the multiple lightbulbs in one of the bathrooms was out, it was replaced in less than an hour. The hotel had WebCam views from the various mountain peaks. Use of the spa-gym was included. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent and complementary transportation was provided for the short trip to and from the train station.

The room itself is so spacious, clean & cozy. It has huge windows looking out into the amazing scenery. I'm so glad I got this hotel because the prices were so good compared to hotels in Zermatt. We arrived early for check in but were limited on time and wanted to see the Matterhorn, so they offered to hold our bags up front for no charge and even put them in our room! We were able to spend the day in Zermatt not having to worry about our luggage--So nice!! The room had a great view of the mountains too. Great food in the restaurant as well- the price is high but you get huge portions compared to a lot of the restaurants we've been to in Switzerland. All around great place, highly recommend if you're traveling to the area for skiing or sightseeing!
