You see so many fossils in the granite slabs at Mont Granite, I started calling it the boneyard. Mont Granite only stocks granite or marble slabs & someone else fabricates the stone into whatever you're going to do with it. Their selection of granite slabs is amazing with everything graded from A-Z. Prices go up as you progress through the alphabet and those X-Z suckers get pricey! I ultimately was happy with our selection and they got it to our granite fabricator just as they were supposed to but their customer service left something to be desired. We made 3 trips there from start to finish: 1st was a scouting mission to decide what we liked and no one even bothered to talk to us while we were there; 2nd trip we were again on our own to figure everything out and once we selected our slab, we wandered the warehouse searching for an employee to try and buy it. That's when we discovered almost everything in the front of each pile of slabs was already tagged & sold so we'd have to return with a weekday appointment to see the interior slabs pulled out by a crane to inspect & pick one. Some granite slabs have very funky veins or giant flaws running through them, so you need to examine them. The 3rd trip to inspect went fine & ultimately our kitchen is beautiful. The best thing about Mont Granite is definitely their location right next door to Sharp Edge - wandering a giant granite warehouse makes you thirsty & you probably will need a beer! read more

If you are looking for 3cm granite in the Pittsburgh area, there is a good chance you'll be directed to go to Monte Granite by your granite fabricator. If so, here are a few tips. 1). Bring a sample of your kitchen cabinets preferably a cabinet door. They have some cabinet doors available but you'll want to have your own there to make sure the colors look good together. 2). Check their hours before you make the trip. They are only opened after 5pm one night a week (Wednesday if I remember correctly) and they are fairly strict about these hours. If it's very close to 5pm, they won't pull out the slab for you to look at. This can be very frustrating if you left work early and drove 40 minutes to get there. Which brings me to number three. 3). They do not pull slabs out on the weekends. So, although you can go and browse on the weekends, there is no way to look at the full slab which I HIGHLY recommend you do as each slab has different inclusions and variants. Even if they tell you it's like a loaf of bread and granite slabs piled together are all the same, make sure you look at the pulled slabs. I changed my mind twice after looking at the full slab. 4). Get a babysitter. No children younger than 12 are permitted in the warehouse. This regulation in addition to their hours and not pulling slabs on the weekends makes it difficult for young families to choose their slabs. This is the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. It can easily be remedied by extending hours or pulling slabs on weekends. 5). Don't expect to know how much your granite will cost. Only your granite fabricator can tell you that. You will get some sense of cost by looking at the letter on the granite but no actual prices. Mont marks each color with a letter from A to Z where A is the least expensive. The reason for the price difference is due to the availability of the color. More common and widely available colors are priced lower. Otherwise, youre getting the same product no matter the letter. The slabs are all 3cm. Although they have a wide variety (100+ colors), don't expect to see many A-C choices. Most choices seem to range from D-S. So, how much of a price difference is that? I can't say but for a basis of comparison, I chose a color that was marked K and it ended up being $71 a square foot including installation. Last, Mont does also have a smaller selection of marble, soapstone and lathered granite. read more

Mont has probably the largest selection of stunning/unusual granite and quartzite in Ohio. The warehouse in Columbus Ohio has the best customer service out of all the Mont locations in Ohio or Pennsylvania. All of the staff members are exceptionally polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. Jeremy inspected the slabs carefully and opened them when we wanted to look at several below the top one. Don't let anyone tell you that you don't need to look at the slabs, because they will look the same as the front slab. That is false. Veining, movement, and colors change. The slabs can also contain imperfections that might make it unacceptable for your project. Also, Marty should get the star employee award. She is very intelligent, informative, and kind. We never felt pressured or rushed. Marty is the #1 reason I shop at Mont in Columbus. read more

One star for this place. The receptionist is rude, unprofessional and has little knowledge of the products and what they carry. Not exactly the person you want as the first point of contact with your customers. When I arrived I walked in with my son who was clearly visible, (there's a reason for this detail). Anyway, I told the receptionist I had called an hour earlier and would like to see the Carrara marble. She asked me if I had anyone with me when clearly she could see my son. She then told me my son would not be permitted in the warehouse. So needless to say we won't be doing business with these people. Too bad for them as we needed at least two slabs for our current project. We are headed over to Dente Marble where my son is welcome in the warehouse and their staff is knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. read more

Mont Quartz Consumers Beware! Mont claims brown quartz countertop is within color variance to a grey sample. Fabricator and I each had a white/grey quartz Lago sample and instead what was installed was an ugly brown version. I wish I could post picture here. My fabricator salesman who visited the day of install to see the issue himself, said he was surprised at the color difference and had to warn another customer that had ordered same Lago color. My kitchen is grey/black/dove white w/ accents of steel blue. The brown of the installed counter tops makes them look grungy dirty and I can't install the (already purchased) dark grey back splash against brown counters! My powder room is also affected by this since it had same Lago installed. Mont reps visited me (almost two weeks later they finally arrived) and said quartz is man made and that there could be variances in color if it was 'left in the oven a minute longer'. The letter from Mont said that the quartz is natural and therefore can have variations of color. Which is it? This is the second house I've put quartz in, third type/color of quartz and I've never heard of this kind of 'variation in color'. I understand if it was a bit lighter or darker grey, but this is unbelievable. Where is Mont's quality control to match samples to at least the same general color? FYI - I had Oliveto (chocolate brown/white) by Mont installed a few months ago in two other bathrooms with no issues with color variance. read more
