I had dinner at Montana's in St. John. The cornbread was great, the pork back ribs were fantastic, and the seasoned fries were great. The baked beans, however, were not very good. My husband thought the fish & chips were greasy. If you go, stick with the ribs. read more

Great place to go if you are wanting ribs. 4 different types of sauces to choose from but I went with old faithful 'Honey Garlic'. I was impressed with how much meat was actually on the ribs and how tender they were. I've also tried the firecracker burger in the past and was also impressed with that. If you are looking for some good starters before the main course - the Kapow Shrimp is amazing and their spinach dip is delicious with a good sized portion. read more

Service has improved but not perfect. We ordered the nachos with the beef and the beef tasted like chef boyardee meat (not recommended).

Let me preface the review by stating You could walk into a Montana's in Alberta, Ontario or this on in St John and if you closed your eyes you could not tell what city you are in! Restaurant is nicely Western themed and service was good! For me where the food came up short was the hot wings I ordered were highly breaded! Really not a fan of this! I should have known better! The server did offer that it was 1/2 price wings apps but they were not very impressive. Then I ordered the fire grilled Salmon salad. Salmon came on a bit over cooked and a smaller piece. Avocado was almost non existent in the salad. The dressing was nice and had some nice crunchy cashews. Really it was a 3/5. Maybe it was what I ordered. I think you come here for burgers, ribs and maybe steak. If I ate one of those maybe it would be 4 stars. Today I was under-impressed! read more

Decent lunch / had the trio lunch special ( half sandwich , soup , salad ) .. instead of half 'slow roasted beef' or 'chicken club wrap' , I was able to get the half Reuben. Didn't have tomato and basil soup available , so was able to replace the soup with fries .. which was nice . Lunch did the trick. Wife had Mac and cheese .. nice presentation , a little luc warm considering the skillet it came on .. This place is the worst Montana's I have ever been to! I have lived in three provinces and have enjoyed Montana's on a number of occasions as they have an amazing beef rib but the few times I have been here have been brutal. The waitress at the bar seems to be only interested in her male customers and the servers (mostly female) seem to be in the same mind set. After one special occasion I wrote the manager and was told I was in the wrong and much more to that note! What a joke.... haven't been back since and will never go again. Word of mouth travels fast and I kept the "sad" email and have forwarded it to friends moving here. My wife and I came here expecting a disappointment like Longhorn Steakhouse in Maine. What we got was the best burger, cauliflower, and fries from a BBQ place we've ever had. The waitstaff was awesome, the location and feel was rustic, but fitting. Highly recommend! read more

I debated this one. I've had one good experience and one just ok one, but to be honest, I've definitely experienced better. On this trip, my partner and I had burgers, wings, and salads. The caesar was ok, but the ranch dressing for the garden salad tasted very much bottled. Ranch ought to taste like freshly-made Hidden Valley Ranch in my opinion... and I can tell when it's not. The wings were pretty good, pricy but good. And when you pay a lot for just a few wings, you'd expect more celery and carrots--but you'd be disappointed. The burgers were fine. I actually liked mine pretty much. I'm not saying it was OMG incredible, but it was entirely edible. Cocktails are expensive, and I have to say, disappointing. I had a Chipotle Caesar, and it just wasn't all that. The fact is, I became a fan of the Caesar the last time I ate at Montana's... but this one was a let down... so much so that my second cocktail was just a shot of tequila... ok... but overpriced... and lemons... no lime! I'm not writing the place off, largely because it's a slightly better alternative to the middle-of-the-road, less-than-they-should-be restaurants on this side of town. read more

We ate there on our wedding anniversary, we were told many great things about it and were let down hard. The waitress took our order, came back with my wifes food right, mine wrong. They took it out back and the burger came back about half the size of what it should have been. next to no fries with it. The waitress never came back to check on us, we even had to chase her down for the bill. read more

I am 71 and my wife is 68 and when we got out of our car the music was blasting in the parking lot. we got inside and told the guy to turn it down or we were leaving. all he did was smile at me and I told the waitress the same thing. she said the music was loud because the cleaners left it that way from last nite. your coffee is the worst we have ever had wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy 2 stronggggg. not a good experience. music is only there for the atmosphere and is heard only in the background. if we wanted to dance we would have gone elsewhere. read more

My wife and i went to montanas sunday june 7 at 12 noon and we received our meal 40 min. later. We could not eat it because there was so much grease the bun fell apart. There was no salt or pepper on the table or any type of seasoning for our burger or fries. Twice i asked if they could turn down their music, we just wanted to have a quiet dinner together. A terrible experience overall. Maybe young kids like loud music and greasy burgers but we are beyond that stage in our lives. We just wanted a nice meal in a quiet restaurant. Ordered take out twice. First time I wanted french fries instead of veggies. Got veggies. Second time I wanted 2 pieces of chicken instead of 1. Received only 1 piece of chicken despite I had to pay for the extra. Update to this: have had Montana's 6 times in the past few months. Not once have they got my basic order correct. There's always multiple things missing or forgotten about. I'm probably going to stop giving them my money. Update x2: Got a gift card so I thought I'd give it one last try. Tried to order something 1 hour in advance because I was busy up until I was able to pick it up. They said they can't do that, but I mean I can understand them not wanting the money. Made reservations on Thursday for Saturday night for my family, was supposed to be in a booth. We arrived at the right time but we were informed that there wasn't any booths available! After a busy day of unpacking, we thought we'd treat the kids to some good food, so we went to Montana's, as they both like ribs, and we've enjoyed this place before. Our waitress was either new, unsure of herself, or just bad. Took quite a while for her to take our drinks order, and much longer to bring the drinks and take our food order, which surprised us, since the place was half empty. She forgot to take the order for one of the kids, but we managed to get it done fine. The ribs were okay, but surely nothing special. Kids prefer the ones I do at home, quite honestly. I decided to skip the ribs, had a striploin steak. It was cooked ok, but wasn't very tender, obviously the cook doesn't know how to properly cook steak. Absolutely nothing special whatsoever. Waitress grudgingly took some of our plates away, but never really seemed to want to clear the table. As we were ready to leave, she asked if my wife wanted a coffee refill (menu says free refills), but she never noticed that my coffee cup had been empty for 5 minutes, never offered me any. I love Montana's where I live so obviously I ate at the one in Saint John. While the food was delicious, as per usual, and I liked being able to be seated without any wait on a Friday night, the restaurant really needs to work on their staff. Our waitress never asked us if we wanted drink refills because that would require coming near the table. One of our party asked for a plain burger with just burger and lettuce and ended up with a cheeseburger with BBQ sauce. When the waitress made a rare appearance at our table she was made aware of the error and just shrugged and said 'they must not have heard me.' read more

We got takeout from Montana's Cookhouse while staying at the nearby Hampton Inn, and were very happy with what we got. The staff was great on the phone and when we went to pick it up, the food was ready very quickly, and the packaging was such that everything was how it should have been when we unpackaged it and ate. Can't really comment on the in-restaurant dining experience, except to say that it looked like a nice place for a meal. read more

I love the firecracker cheeseburger and multiple other dishes as well as the NEW service. I enjoy the feel and the ambience of the place and the privacy of the tables and the tables bring me back to child hood... If you know what I mean, with the crayons and stuff... All in all above average or better...:) even the off style menu items (stuff that doesn't fit the style, like pizza at olive gardens.) like the pizza and the salads... read more

Service was awesome but food lacking - ordered roast beef dinner - it was dry and tasteless. Ordered cinnamon rolls for dessert - tasted like bug spray. Only gave it a couple of stars because our waiter was so nice. read more
