Best meal of my trip by far! The service was impeccable. Shout out to my waitress Michelle. I had a Royal Cup mocktail (which was so refreshing) and the Everything Bagel Crusted Tuna. Just wow. I would fly back to Saint John just for that meal. The crispy rice was perfect. The tuna was cooked just right. The sauce over the veggies tied it all together. Can't say enough good things about this dish. For dessert I had the Lemon Blueberry Creme Brulee. A delightful ending to a wonderful meal. The atmosphere, the location, just everything was wonderful. WOW! This restaurant was suggested to me by the owner of a local knitting shop. I did not know it would be one of the best recommendations ever. The bartender fixed me a specialty cocktail with bourbon and it was absolutely fantastic. I went with the tasting menu. The sourdough bread with maple lard was so good. everything on the tasting menu was unique and special. I live in Philadelphia and have to say that I have not had a meal this unique and tasty with fantastic and friendly service in a long time. We visited for a late dinner on Thursday night. We enjoyed cocktails at the bar before moving to our table. The drink of the week - motionless autumn (?) was interesting in that it was smoked on the bar. We had creton en ploye (in pancake/crepe), seared broccoli, oysters, chicken roulade and cod toast. The favourites - the creton and the cod toast. We enjoyed every bite - I could have eaten seconds of everything if I'd had room. The only downside was the longer than expected wait for our mains - approximately 30 minutes. read more

Would have liked to have actually eaten here! We walked in a few minutes after 9:00 (on a Tuesday), there were two people at the bar, a party of four that had finished eating and four other people who were just having drinks. Not crowded at all. We ordered shortly after sitting down and walked out at 9:55 because we had not gotten our food and the host/bartender/server (all in one) was too busy to give us a status on our food. I can understand waiting that long at a busy restaurant but they only had to make our two meals... There were more people working in the kitchen (and employees eating in the kitchen) than actual customers and only one person working the entire front of the restaurant. Right in the core of the brick city! Great atmosphere , kept a lot of the original architecture of the old building! Very classic/modern and business casual . Server / owner was very nice and informative . Poutine is by far the best I've had ( butter curry poutine $12) . Very chill spot , have been here a few times , highly recommend! read more

We came here for a bachelorette party dinner, and the food here was AMAZING! Everything that came out was a mouthwatering experience. The tomato tarte is so simple but delicious. If we had to vote it was one of our favorite dishes of the night. But the grilled cauliflower, and mushroom pâté appetizers were equally fantastic. For dinner we had mushroom toast, scallops with bacon, chicken roulade, and the burger we're phenomenal! Dessert my favorite was the blackberry scones, yummy bites of goodness. And for those of you that like a sweet and salty drink ask Tom for the Kimmie Cosmo to try something new. Again I can't say enough about this place. This place is a must on your itinerary!! Until I can visit Saint John's again this place will just have to be in my dreams. read more

One of our favourite places to grab a specialty cocktail or catch up with friends. We have been coming here since they opened and have never been disappointed with the food or drinks. Service is always good. Their former bartender/mixologist was fantastic but unfortunately is no longer working here. Rated 4/5 stars because they have the most uncomfortable dining chairs I have ever sat in. Not exaggerating. We were visiting on a cruise and happened to see this place on yelp. Once we got there, there were 4 other people in the restaurant so it was not crowded at all. However it took over 45 minutes to get our food. We only ordered two things: pho poutine and tomato tart. The thing that really bothered me was that the poutine wasn't served hot. If it's going to take that long to prepare my food i would at least expect it to be served like it was just made. The poutine was also a bit salty, and I'm usually someone that likes my food on the salty side. The positives are the service. The lady that served me was very nice. I also liked the concept of the dishes, especially the pho poutine. The presentation of both dishes was also very nice. The flavors of both were very good, just that the poutine was not hot and a little salty, but the flavors were there. Being a cruise destination with customers that i would assume are on a time crunch, I think others should be warned of the service time here. Terrible service. We came for a nice drink after the comedy club let out and the waiter was a real prick. Maybe he was trying to be funny or impress the girl bartender, but he was just offensive (and we were in a laughing mood). Walked out before getting a drink because service was so bad. read more

I expected more from this restaurant given the fine reviews from the Air Canada magazine ranking it #2 for best new restaurants in 2015. Oysters were average but the broccoli was solid. Chicken roulade was begging for more seasoning as it lacked in flavour. The steak, of the dish "steak frites", was over shadowed by the over cooked fries that were only dressed with salt. One good thing is the place was nearly empty at 20:30 so we could easily get a table for two as a walk in. No way a place like this, with those "professional" reviews, in a larger city is available six weeks out. read more

The cocktail program here is absolutely amazing. Eric took great pains to make sure that our individual preferences were accommodated and he obviously loves what he does. We shared a few of our personal favorite flavors and he customized some very unique ingredients and recipes for us. Great ambience with original exposed brick walls and some comfy leather sofas for lounging in addition to the traditional dining tables. We would definitely go back! read more

Will absolutely be back repeatedly! PS drink menu is worth spending time on; great cocktails and craft beers. Had a fantastic weekend visiting Saint John. One particular highlight was our meal at Port City Royal. Chef/owner Jakob Lutes and Monica Adair of Acre Architects did an incredible job designing the space. We dined on Saturday evening, and had the Touton w/ Molasses Ham, Tourtiere Samosas, along with some craft IPA and New Brunswick distilled gin. With their version of "new east coast" cuisine, PCR easily ranks as one of my favourite restaurants in Canada. Can't wait to return later this month (and hopefully meet the chef). --Matt read more

I was at Port City this week. I would say the brussels sprouts were very nice and the scallops were very good also. We also had the fried clams. The dill sauce with the clams was also very good. The clams may have been a bit over done but I would still order them again. Nicely breaded and fried. We also had the "Florenceville French Fries". The taste was nice, used rendered pork fat as part of the process. Now as someone from that area, I know that there are far, far, far better sources of potatoes to make the fries from. They were mainly 1 inch pieces and side crunchy bits. If these came from my farm I would be embarrassed to have my name attached to the product. Source your spuds somewhere else. Not impressed. ( Maybe something a bit more imaginative than ketchup for condiment. I can squeeze that at home.) The drinks were nice, no complaints and atmosphere is fabulous. Beware, you will wait some time for food. The 4 items I mentioned took 30 -35 mins to arrive. I know that that they are not looking to churn patrons but there is a point that waiting for food goes from a fine dining experience to straight out unacceptable. (Hungry, cranky people) They are dangerously close to the latter. Seems a bit long for appetizers from a professional kitchen. Would I go back, yes. I would ask before ordering, what the wait time for food will be and be specific about it. Really, 3 1/2 stars but there no place to reflect that, in this forum. A few easy changes could take this place to 4 1/2 stars. Detail, Detail, Detail. I hope the people at Port City see this. I do want them to succeed. read more
