    General farmers market haul
    Nick G.

Oh man, I can't begin to tell you how exciting it is to have this place as our local farmers market. This market has a little bit of everything. There are local farms, a guy who forages mushrooms (and ramps in the spring!), flowers the size of my face, and everything in between. To sweeten the pot, they have a bakery that does the best savory scones I've ever had, a pickle place, Montclair Bread Co (doughnuts!), a winery, and a Polish food place with homemade kielbasa, pierogi, and galumpki. You never know what you're going to find, and every trip to the farmers market is an adventure. Check it out, and get ready for some wonderful local produce. It's a great use of Walnut St station while NJT is inexplicably shut down past Bay St on the weekends.

Food is pretty expensive here but I was impressed with all the selection of organic foods. I saw a mushroom stand that had over 10 different types of mushrooms, most of which I've never heard of. This market has everything from fresh beef to fresh fish. Cheese, wine, polish food, tacos, you name it they got it. The venders all make there own food or grow it. I bought homemade perogies and keblasa, the man who made it with his grandmothers recipe sold it to me. It came out to 18$ for both. When I sauted it at home it was delicious. Way better than anything you can get in a super market. I would recommend going to this market on a sat.

This seasonal pop-up market is a great addition to Montclair. With locally sourced goodies such as produce, pies, cheeses, meats, fish, pickles and herbs you can find almost anything at this market. A neat addition to the market are the food trucks that park street side. The trucks rotate on a weekly basis and always offer a unique selection to help you fill your belly in between stands. The only downside to the market is parking, which can be a precious commodity. However, if you don't mind a short walk then it is a non-issue. Also, pricing is a little steep especially if you compare prices to a chain supermarket...then again you are supporting local farms and buying organic. The Montclair Farmers Market is always a sure bet.

Piergis, sausage, sauerkraut, and pickles. All from the market

Nice market. Perogies are very good. Nice selection of fresh items. Prices are bag for a farmers market. Not cheap that's for sure.

It's very convenient to have right down the street, no need to pop onto a highway. Some of the reviews say the prices are higher, and that may be true. I haven't taken this into consideration when shopping, because it's very convenient so I'm willing to pay more. They are open until 8PM on most days, which is great and unusual for a place like this as well. Grateful to have this place in town!

Lucky Farmers Market is a non-descript bodega perched in a four deep mini-mall on Bloomfield Ave. in Verona (co-occupied by Subway and double Krauszers). Sounds awesome, right? Actually, it is. Inside is where you actually get lucky.* Fresh fruit and vegetables in droves for way less than your not-so-supermarket. From gargantuan Asian pears to three kinds of cucumbers to berries of all kinds, Lucky will not let you down on the fruit and vegetable end. This is not a full market so don't get all, "That dude said this place had everything," because they don't have everything. They just have good produce, a smattering of market items (good, healthy options) and THIS IS WHERE YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION - a full-time sushi chef that churns out the best sushi around, restaurant or not. Yes, a small bodega will give you excellent sushi in a plastic container and you won't have to overpay for it. If you take anything from this, just get the Tuna/Salmon sandwich sushi and thank me later. Lucky is my go-to spot for the items I rely on - fruit, vegetables and sushi. I do the bulk of my shopping at a regular, large and fat market, but I get all my fruit and vegetables here and I get dinner here 2x a week, every week. Everyone who runs this place and works here is super friendly and a pleasure to see every day. In a pinch, you can get flowers here which actually last a while too. What else is there to say? If you don't ever have a reason to go to Lucky Farmers Market, no one will care (not even your Mom), but if you do have a chance to swing by with fruits, vegetables, sushi or something interesting in mind you just might have found your spot. ____________________ *Well, you might not get lucky if you are thinking something other than groceries or sushi, but I get Lucky almost every day.

But this little farmers market is not really much to speak of. The one farm that seemed to have fresh produce had awful tasting pastries and very little produce to speak of for outrageous prices. The food trucks were nothing special. They were exceptionally overpriced. This area is slowly getting gentrified but you still have pockets of people who can barely afford to buy their normal groceries, yet the town thinks its ok to have food trucks selling $16 lobster rolls that are barely 4-5 inches long...The seller at the truck said I was the only person to buy one the entire day...I found nothing to showcase the neighborhood...nothing Caribbean. Nothing Creole. Nothing with pulled pork, no ceviche, no conch fritters. There was only one woman who had juices present and some baked goods for a decent price. The music aspect is the best part but is only for the last half hour. The rest of the booths were random institutions or banks that had nearly as much business of being at a fresh/farmers market event as you'd imagine. Meh, I'll just stick to the events in the city that make more sense. It supposedly occurs on Tuesdays throughout the Summer.
