It is a smaller market with about 10 stands, give or take a few. But you'll find some of the same farmers and producers that are at the Union Square Greenmarket like Beth's Farm Kitchen, Migliorelli, and B & Y Farms. While there's plenty of foot traffic from people on their way somewhere, the market is not overly crowded and I find that I can comfortably shop and get around quickly. I could have sworn that the market was open on a few Saturdays during the summer as well, but it's now just back on Sundays with the weather getting cooler. Look forward to see if the market will expand and what other vendors may show up.

One time I was hoping to buy flowers for my girlfriend after she got back from a long business trip. It was 5 minutes after their closing time and they weren't letting customers in - however, I asked them really nicely and they let me in to buy flowers. Mad love. Well priced flowers. Accepts credit card purchases over $10. I left my wallet at the sushi guy's station, and he called me. All of my money and cards were in tact when I came back to get it. Great guy.

They have been written up several times by a variety of well-established publications (it is not just me) and they are also listed on the menus of some of the best restaurants in town. They are perhaps the most patient of farmers. If you are not sure or can't figure out how to pick out your fruits and vegetables, they will help you and/or teach you how to select them yourself. Any vegetable they sell seems to be best in class. Also on the list of vegetables/herbs I think they do well, includes, but is not limited to: basil, cucumbers, green beans, summer squash/zucchini (which I hated until I tried theirs) eggplant, broccoli, romanesco, pumpkin, brussels sprouts and fennel. They have recently started to weather the cold and sell greenhouse tomatoes and other winter veggies during late fall and early winter. Their veggies are better than anything you will find in the grocery store. It is worth the trip to the Greenmarket just to stop by Sycamore. From late May to November (now December) they can be found the the Union Square Greenmaket at 16th Street and Union Square East.

They did a double excellent job finding another nonprofit that I love to provide their bakery stand. I'm looking forward to my Friday visits to this farmers market even more now. Next week I need to remember to see the Harvest Home employee that makes the nutrition food for cooking lessons. Last week I was to early and today I was too excited about the scones I purchased that I forgot to see her. Old age brain overload! I'm recommending this market and I hope to meet my Yelp friend Amanda here soon!!

I found this extremely tiny gem of a farmers market just last week taking a new walking route to…read morework. I didn't think there were ANY farmers markets in Borough Park. Let alone one of the Greenmarkets. It's on 14th Avenue between 49th and 50th street. They take credit/debit cards and EBT, just like all of the other Greenmarkets. There's only about 4-5 vendors there on any given Thursday. Thursday is the only day they are open. It gets VERY crowded there. Even in the very early morning. Selection is limited since there are so few vendors. You have Acevedo's Farm, John D Madura Farm, Suka-Di Farms and Toigo Orchards. Get there bright and early to get the freshest picks. Acevedo's Farm is where to go. Fresh ears of corn for 50 cents each. Well worth it because they are the largest, plumpest ears of corn I've ever seen! They also had HUGE fresh green beans. The orange mini zucchini were also a delight. All at decent prices too. Toigo Orchards has the best apples. Not much of a selection. Basically just Gala and Granny Smith. So incredibly delicious though. Suka-Di Farms are crazy expensive. None of the orchard fruits they sell are under $3.00 a pound. They also have a vendor selling honey in various forms. Overall, it's not a bad market to hit up if you are in the area. Nothing to go out of your way for but if you're passing by, make a stop!

A fun place to wander for a different side of supermarkets. It's a cramped place so has a bit more…read moreof a NYC vibe to the layout. As we squeezed through the aisles and others squeezed by us, I scoured all the shelves. Fruits / veggies seemed fairly normal, some normal food on every shelf and some Middle Eastern brands. Then you get to the multiple brands of mulberry syrup, the various types of dried sweet olives, the Azerbaijani salsas, and things get fun. This is a Turkish mart, but they branch out in all directions. I found Lebanese, Palestinian, Hungarian... the list certainly goes on. It was fun picking out different foods I felt like trying. They had a pile of fresh-cooked, fresh-wrapped breads made in Irvington. Still good 3 days later, now part of my sandwiches for the week. They sell a lot of sausages (all halal, no pork), but the star is their homemade beef sausage. I grabbed one of those and it's now sliced on those fresh breads (along with the Azerb salsa and some baba ghanoush). And yeah, I did end up with some olives for fun. Great little place if you just want to explore. If you're someone halal and/or from the Middle East, so much the better. Now, you do pay quite a bit more for many of the foods here, most notably where you can find similar brands/products elsewhere. And I noted the small size before, which means they're limited in what they can carry. Some items, like the olives, took up disproportionately much shelf space, squeezing out some of the varieties I would have liked to see more of (like hummus, there was very little to peruse). So that's the star deduction. But with that, do come check out Sultan next time you're on 46.
