Door with an out of order sign. Looks like it was a restroom in a former life.

Calling the Montclair Metrolink Station a station is generous. It is essentially a massive sea of parking where it is possible to catch a bus or a train with some effort. There are zero services (hope you don't need to use the restroom), zero buildings, and zero personnel at the station. You cannot walk to anything nearby, because there is nothing within walking distance. Since you can't walk anywhere, your only real option is sitting on a hard metal bench and hoping you can leave as soon as possible.

Westbound Metrolink Montclair Station towards LA

This is the Metrolink Station I use the most. I live in Upland, but that station is on the southeast side and Montclair is closer to the tip of southwest Upland. I call this the major hub between LA and San Bernardino counties as Montclair and Upland are the first cities just inside SB County. So anyone coming from LA that has to bus anywhere here or anyone from SBD that that needs to bus towards LA County and city, this is your stop. This place has really cleaned up and they do have security here. If you are going westbound on track 1, it is pretty safe as you are on the same side as everyone coming in and out of the property, vehicles, etc. However please be careful if you have to take the steps under the bridge to track 2 going eastbound. This side of track is a bit secluded and you never know what or who can be waiting in this area. Better if you do go in numbers at least 2. I came in and out of here yesterday without incident. If you miss a train going to LA the Silver Streak bus should honor your train ticket. This station has an architectural difference in that it looks like a giant colorful spider. I left my car here in the free parking for the day, no issues. For now, this is my #1 Metrolink station!

Tons of parking and seating available! The signage is a bit confusing, but you get the hang of it eventually.

In my day, a station was a place of sweat and soot, where the air reeked of coal and the ground trembled beneath the weight of industry. Here, however, one finds a charming relic of 1927, its arches and tiles whispering of old Spain while inside dwells not the clamor of baggage men but, of all things, a museum of art! Imagine, waiting for one's transport while gazing at paintings instead of chickens being herded aboard. The convenience, too, is staggering--carriages of steel await with tickets conjured from glowing machines, where once I would have argued with a surly clerk scribbling in ledgers. The surroundings are pleasant and civilized, with cafés and markets close at hand; one might step off the train and be sipping a cappuccino within minutes, rather than gnawing on a hard biscuit beside the stables. Yet, I confess, the frequency of these trains is less than I should hope--one must time their arrival with a precision equal to a musket shot, lest they find themselves waiting longer than a sermon. Still, compared to the rutted wagons and bone-jarring rides of my own age, this station is a marvel, a polished portal between town and city. Four stars, then--not perfection, but a most respectable balance of beauty and utility, where past and present clasp hands across the tracks.

Just 2 lanes - one going to San Bernardino, one to LA. Once you get off the train, you have to wait for it to leave the station so that you can cross across the platform and exit the station. The stop is right in the middle of downtown Claremont so that's a plus. You don't need a car to get around, just explore on foot. I love the Spanish style architecture of Claremont train stop, it's charming, pretty and it host the Art Museum inside (you enter from the other side). Unfortunately, there are no restrooms (except inside the Art Museum with paid admission!). Besides bring quaint and pretty, this stop doesn't have a lot to offer: some parking, benches, a machine to get tickets from. No one works here, no humans to announce trains, you're on your own!

Next stop, DTUP!!…read more Love taking the Metrolink from Downtown LA to this IE favorite spot. The Upland Metrolink is super easy and convenient... It's clean, hassle free and typically on time. They have a very spacious parking lot it come from Upland into LA or various stops west as well as a few more eastbound. As a SoCal native baked in San Bernardino County (yes I grew up in San Berdu County, but was unboxed and mixed in LA) I have an appreciation for this area around the Upland Metrolink... It's a nice stroll about the downtown district of Upland aka Downtown Upland/Old Town Upland which is made up of lots of small businesses!! I've come to enjoy so many over the years including the Vintage Vault of Upland, Old Magnolia Shoppe, Baker's Drive Thru and Penny Lane Records.... To name a few! Lots more to come! Boarding or exiting in Upland you'll almost never ride in a full or half full car and there's space for bikes, strollers and suitcases. Q Tip: The second closest Metrolink station to the Ontario International Airport, after Rancho Cucamonga. You can purchase tickets from one of their many terminals, including one way, round trip and my personal new favorite... Weekend day passes (Saturday or Sunday until 3am) :D

In my day, a traveler might wait beneath the unkind sun, swatting flies and praying the horse's legs would endure the journey; here one finds shade, benches, and even the curious magic of ticket machines that spit out one's passage in seconds, without a clerk's quill or foul mood. The station itself is modest--no museum nor ornamented arches, but a straightforward affair, much like a village inn whose purpose is not to dazzle but to deliver. The parking is ample, a veritable sea of carriages made of steel and glass, and the platforms, though simple, are kept tidy and safe. The trains arrive with a calm punctuality, though not as often as the eager heart might wish--like waiting for a traveling bard who keeps his own schedule, you must be patient or risk missing the show entirely. Yet how astonishing it is to step aboard and glide to Los Angeles in comfort, when in my century such a trip would rattle one's bones to dust upon the dirt road! No, this is not the most elegant of stations, but it is steady, serviceable, and clean--a workhorse rather than a show pony. For this, I bestow four stars: a humble but faithful portal to the wider world, and leagues ahead of any carriage road I once

I did not spend too much time here to explore, it was just a terminal bus hub to transfer between different SoCal bus services I utilized on my last trip flying to Ontario Airport (the lesser known one in California, not the one in Canada) and heading to LA County. Going on a tangent: So from my personal experience and also to prove that it can be done frugally, I booked the cheapest flight I could find ($20 on Frontier and opted out of all of their up charges for a one-way flight from LAS to ONT) with just my half empty backpack, then $2 for Bus 61 from the airport to this location to catch a transfer on Bus 482 ($1.75) to get to Puente Hills Mall. Time in the air about 50 minutes, and almost 2 hours riding on the buses and waiting for the transfer. The total opposite of glamorous travel, but it is definitely doable. Never did the broke college backpacking overseas routine when I was younger, but I think this qualifies as a similar experience with the aid of apps to plan and navigate your way around. So 3 stars. As a terminal stop for multiple bus lines and routes, this place is definitely A-Ok. And is a scenic location for modeling photoshoot as you can see from the Yelp photos uploaded for this "business".

If you visit the Amtrak website and look at the page about Pomona station, you'll see that it describes the station as "Train Station - Platform only (no shelter)" which is strange because when I visited, there was definitely a station building! I peeked through the window and saw a waiting area with benches and a drinking fountain. I tried the door, and it was locked, but then a security guard noticed me and asked me what I needed. I asked if there was a bathroom I could use, and he hesitated and said no and that the station was currently closed, which leads me to think the station does indeed open but probably only right before there's an Amtrak train scheduled to depart or arrive. I was there on a Wednesday at around 8:30 PM whereas the Amtrak train only departs Pomona thrice weekly (on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) and not until 10:41 PM. Anyway, the security guard then told me if I really needed to go, "honestly, I'd just go in the bushes over there." I had a good laugh about this, and I eventually did find a restroom and did not have to go in the bushes. The building itself looks nice from the outside. It's built in the Spanish Colonial Revival style with red clay roof tiles and stucco walls, and it feels very southern California. More eye-catching, though, is the pedestrian bridge, which allows you to get from one side of the tracks to the other. There are teal domes adorning either end and similarly colored wrought-iron gating throughout. My research shows that this bridge was a $1.3 million project! In terms of the layout of the tracks, if you're taking a Metrolink train, you actually will NOT be waiting station-side. All Metrolink trains (inbound and outbound) board on the opposite side by W 1st St. Amtrak trains board station-side. Also by the station is the Pomona Transit Center, which is served by several Foothill Transit buses including Silver Streak.
