With a lot of local gyms closing or moving, having one nearby that's clean and functional is a big plus. The setup is straightforward: free weights, machines, and a handful of cardio options. The treadmills are amusingly off-calibrated--you can set it to 4 mph and the belt will only go 2. It's a good reminder to double-check your speed (and maybe a mini leg workout in disguise). The TVs often freeze, but I just put on my own music and focus on my routine. You don't need to be part of the church to join, and they offer different membership options--gym, classes, or pool. I mostly stick to the gym. The pool seems nice, though it's usually crowded, so snagging a lane can be tricky. The staff is friendly, check-in is smooth, and I've never felt pressured to attend services, which is appreciated. Some minor frustrations: it can get crowded, especially right after school lets out, and locker space is minimal--just cubbies--so changing can be awkward unless you go across the hall to the bathroom. Membership rates recently went up, which stung a bit, but at least they were upfront with signs. Overall, Bethany Community Center does exactly what I need: it's clean enough to focus, convenient to reach, and helps me stay consistent with workouts. There are so many interesting aspects of this library that would've possibly gone unnoticed if Helen didn't provide the background details. It's cool to be able to see what the "old" wall looked like before the expansion and the oak staircase that leads upstairs with the various archways is pretty nifty too. Enjoyed the various decorations that are displayed in the differed areas. What a wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. Parking seems limited to the street.

The Baird…read moreis like the central hub for the park serving as the community center for not just the park, but really the town, handling pretty much all recreational affairs and park usage. For my job for example, if we wanted to use the field we had to select a time to reserve it for practice with whatever sport we'd be preparing for. I like this because it's organized and fair. The Baird is also where you purchase and renew your badge for the pool which convenient. The building hosts other things such a book drives and classes for kids but also houses the Pierro Gallery where many exhibits and events take place on the second floor and are too well organized. Surrounding the Baird are basketball courts and tennis courts making feel very much a part of Meadowlands park.
