The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The food at their restaurant was so much better than what I expected. And the staff went out of their way to answer any and all our questions. However, in typical fashion, I will complain about something; the WiFi signal could use a boost. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. And if you come here, so will you. This place is great.

After booking a Deluxe sea-view room, I emailed them ahead to confirm, and they replied promptly. When we arrived, we were treated to a stunning full view oceanfront room in a historic hotel that has been painstakingly cared for. I was awed, just blown away. They left a lovely handwritten note with snacks and chocolates to wish us a Happy Birthday, which was seriously so thoughtful and touching. Marie at the front desk was so sweet and patient with us when we arrived tired from a long flight and gave us all the information we needed to have a good stay. The historic hotel itself is beautiful, and constantly being meticulously maintained. You can tell how much pride and care they have in the property. Our room was very clean, sanitized, and comfortable, with regular housekeeping. We had no mold or repair issues. The hotel is bustling with guests during the day, but quiet at night. Our booking included the French buffet breakfast every morning, and that was another highlight of our trip! We ate there literally every morning of our 8-night stay. We had delicious croissants, eggs, cakes & pastries of all sorts, cheese, baguettes, cereals, pancakes, crepes, coffee of all kinds, smoked salmon, ratatouille, fruit, bacon, sausage, juices, and to top it off- the most professional, diligent staff you'll ever meet. What a great start to the morning! After the wonderful breakfast, we were fueled up and ready to hit all the cities along the French Riviera. From the hotel we walked the Promenade, walked to Old Town Nice, walked to the tram, bus and train stations to connect to other towns, and explored Nice with ease. It's a great home base, and adjacent to many major landmarks.. Also, because it is literally waterfront and on the promenade, we fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean every night. I can say that I didn't have a single interaction with the hotel that was negative. Everyone is so professional, helpful, spoke English, and very friendly. This is an honest review, because we chose Hotel West End Nice on our own due to its easy proximity to the beach and the promenade, and from other very positive Google reviews (I learned that Europe does not use Yelp, so I found the few negative Yelp reviews conflicted to the more positive and detailed Google reviews). The bathroom has a weird window that looks out into the bed and the only privacy is a cloth curtain that has been growing mold. Gross. Also, the dispenser that holds the shampoo and body wash is held together by some bolts and tape, that is also growing mold. For a four star hotel, it's just a bit too moldy. They could leave the toiletries in a basket that's wipeable on the large corner shelf of the bathtub. Also, many hotels in France don't seem to have hair conditioner, so keep that in mind. The hair dryer was a bit weak too. Otherwise, the balcony was great and the windows were gorgeous overlooking the sea.

To top it all off, I never felt welcome to enjoy anything beyond the bar and grill area, the martini was only OK at the bar, my moules were COMPLETELY oversalted (and I like salt!!) and when I told the wait person, all she did was repeat what I said with surprise and clear the table... no offer to bring a comped dessert or drink or knock some $ off the bill. All in all very disappointing. I live in San Francisco which is full of tech billionaires and yet to feel so excluded at the start of this experience and to end with such mediocre food, really was a sad thing. I would have expected more given the glowing article I had read in Condé Nast. The room was lovely. It wasn't that small. But one thing people need to realize is that European rooms are simply smaller than those in the US. You can't get a better location than this. It was right at the edge of old town and literally a block from the beach. We had a room with a view of the sea. Seabass: The skin on this eas perfectly crispy and the quinoa bits were crispy and the pickled onions were sweet and tangy 5: Diorama dessert: I was most looking forward to this but was disappointed by how simple it turned out to be. It was creamy and delicious, but I felt that the pastry chef's other creations were more interesting/unique, but what sold me was they made it specially for Dior Definitely recommend paying a visit if you visit the south of France!
