Since Friday is Fry-Day I treated myself to some 'junk food' from Monte Carlo. I ordered a cheesy mayo chip which was good, traditional, tasty chow. Yummy yummy in my tummy. I love the fat chips drowned in salt, vinegar and red sauce. I called in last weekend feeling rather tender after a nice on the sauce and ordered a chicken fillet burger with chips with all the trimmings - beautiful. I did have to wait a bit which I wasn't happy about but the staff are chatty and it is clean and you know you are on to a good thing so it is worth it. I did feel a little ill when a man came in and ordered a chicken and gravy burger - have you seriously ever heard of that? The obliging staff happily poured a ladle of gravy over his burger before slapping that bap on top! I though my eyes were deceiving me! I was down this road recently visiting a friend. I had had a long day working and an even longer night out at the pub and hadn't had a chance to grab dinner. To say I was ravenous would be an under-statment. I dragged my worse for wear companions down here and got myself a lovely cheeseburger and chips. There were loads of young people milling about, with no spides or abusive drunks or anything like that. It was all pretty chilled out. The staff were really nice and smiley and dead on. I paid £4.50 for mine which was great value considering it was delish. The chips were perfect, nice and crispy, chunky and served in a generous portion. The burger was served in a lovely floury bap and tasted really fresh. The only thing was it just had cheese on it, no salad or sauce, but that was probably my fault for asking. All of my gang were really happy with their food and we were a hungry bunch! Definitely worth going here after a night out or if you're looking for quality fast food. read more

Right so i'm never ever going to get to the real Monte Carlo like in the James Bond films. And I'm guessing there probably aren't that many fish and chip shops there. So the name is not hugely appropriate, unless there is a big fishing industry I am unaware of. However, the name aside, the food is magnificent. It is a takeaway so your expectations are immediately lowered when it comes to decent food, but this place does some of the finest fish and chips I've stumbled across in Belfast. The staff are very pleasant, the food is prepared in front of you so you don't feel suspicious when they hand you a big bag of 'food' as you do wtih certain takeaways (for which I will keep to myself or risk a court hearing) I cannot fault the fish and chips and at £6 its definately worth it. Only down side is that despite it being a varied menu, some of the other food is not up to the same level which is disappointing, but when a plaice (geddit?!...) does fish this good, you don't need any other food. read more

Monte Carlo might be the death of me. I called in here, after a friend from university suggested it to me and little does he know that he's the reason for my impending coronary. The food here is fried to perfection, the chicken goujons in particular are incredible. Their portion sizes are also out of this world. For a curry chip that could very well feed a small island nation, it will cost only around £3. There's also a delivery service (additional £2 on top of order) from 5 - 10 for those to lazy to make the walk. Usually people have something from the fish and chip shop as a cheeky treat once a week, and if this is what you do, then get the best in Belfast and go here! wow, I need to calm down....it's just a chippie! read more

Monte Carlo is a fantastic Chippie on the Lisburn Road. It's right at the top of Ashley Avenue so it's hugely popular with students. The prices are fantastic, ranging from £3 for chip dishes and £6 for yummy Fish and Chips! The best thing? The sheer quality of the food! I've been here loads and never have the standards slipped. The restaurant itself is really clean too so there's no worries about dodgy goings on here! A must go to if you're a fish and chips fan as they really are great! Tucked in nicely not too far up the Lisburn Road, Monte Carlo is one of my favourite chipper's in Belfast. The food is good, the surfaces are spotless and the staff are always smiling! My usual hit is the chicken burger meal which comes with chunky chips, dosed in vinegar (if you like). The chicken in the burger is proper chicken which is delicious. Another favourite is the fish supper meal's which come in regular and large sizes; the regular is pretty big and great value. There are a few seats to sit in and eat however the area is quite small and you can feel like everyone's staring in your direction while you eat. So because of this I think the best option is to take away or get it delivered. Delivery service is fast and efficient. The owners of the chip shop, Susan and Terry also work in the shop which is a lovely treat to see owners chipping in with the employees. They are warm people who thank each customer individually as they leave the shop- lovely! read more

I live 50m from this fish and chips and go there at least twice a week. I never been disappointed. Nice staff and quick preparation. I love the chips, with salt and vinegar. I did try fish, burgers and chicken goujons: I would recommend them all. read more

When you know you've a night ahead of writing and reviewing, doing a wordy feature or preparing the for day ahead... often cooking is the least of your concerns. Generally, I will spend hours with my kitchen alchemy, mixing, trying new things and throwing ideas around. That said, if the cupboards are bare and it's raining outside (as it so often is on this island of mediocre weather) then often deep fried potato based foods are required. Monte Carlo is one of the better chip shops in south Belfast, surrounded by a gaggle of kebab shops serving out of the bag frozen malarkies, the chips here are all chunky, hand-cut jobs and they are fantastic. The usual suspects are on offer, chips in varying forms, burgers, chicken, sausages (battered or naked) and pasties. It's a veritable smorgasbord of Anglo inspired deep fried morsels... read more

I've tried quite a few fish and chips and this is my particular favourite around the Lisburn Road. Fish is delicious and the chips are top notch, especially with the curry sauce. Unless it was absolutely packed, I'd try here first. read more

Monte Carlo is your standard chippy. Which is not nesscenary a bad thing as if your looking a chippy for tea, you cant go wrong with Monte Carlo, but at the same time you're not missing out if you avoid the place. For me, there is not much difference between this place or Gucci Chip which is about a 5mins walk from it. Reasonable priced, I do like there lunchtime deals so maybe that would the best time to go. So nothing horrible, but nothing outstanding either. read more

I bought a regular chicken box with coleslaw and curry sauce on the side for £6.65 and it was not worth it at all. The curry was mild to the point of being tasteless, the chicken fillet was not crispy and had thin breading. I saw the server take the coleslaw out of a tub from MACE worth £0.69p and I was charged £1 for a small tub... Not going back again. read more
