Campbell Hall is an INCREDIBLE school. I am so grateful my daughter got in (for Kindergarten, now…read moreshe's in 2nd grade). Yes it is expensive, but 1 out of 4 kids is on partial or full financial aid and that was very important to us, because we can afford it, but we did not want our daughter going to a "rich kid" school. And this school really values diveristy, including socioeconomic diversity. It is technically Episcopal but 22% of the student population is Jewish and the kids learn about and celebrate all kinds of different holidays including Diwali. We of course worry about gun violence and the campus is a COMPOUND. You cannot get onto campus without being checked out by security, and there is a former Marine on campus at all times with his adorable German Shepard, Otto - who is GREAT with the kids but I imagine also trained to attack and take down anyone threatening. One of the things I like the best is there are so many after school activities on campus I don't have to drive my daughter anywhere else, I just pick her up a bit later on days she has activities like Toy Design, Junior Shark Tank, Tennis, Mindfulness, and Improv. And while we do not use the bus system yet, my understanding is that Campbell Hall has the widest and most extensive bus system of any of the private schools in LA. Lastly, the parents CARE and are really involved and the school really welcomes their involvement. And the kids are taught values and kindness is a major priority along with education. Again, I recognize the expense is daunting and it's very hard to get into, but we applied and got into Laurence, Oakwood, Hollywood Schoolhouse etc, and are extremely happy (and so is our daughter) that she got into CH. She is absolutely thriving.

Yes, there…read moreis a lot of money at this school and some of the parents and students remind everyone of the whole who-has-what mentality but my kiddo who is on financial aid has had no problem finding like minded classmates to bond and form relationships with. I can't speak about drop off or pick up lanes because my kid takes a bus, but i will say they do have sunscreen dispensers by the soccer field and they seemed to have been there through out the school year and into summer. The campus is small and they have multiple security staff located at both gates, which is a big relief with all the violence that has happened on campuses all over the country. Everyone is friendly and professional. The girls on the volleyball team are on campus usually pretty late so we've met a lot of the supporting staff who are also very approachable and genuine. Over all I would recommend this school to friends. She's the youngest of six, so this experience has been a total game changer and I understand the desire for private schools who can provide the support and guidance that Marlborough has. The good news is they offer opportunities for students who may not all have the same means. They have uniform swap day where girls can donate their gently used skirts to be donated to new students and students who just do not feel the need or have the finances to buy new. Over all, we have found a wonderful home here. Our youngest is thriving and we couldn't be more grateful!

The work was challenging and the majority of teachers were creative and stimulating. My daughter has learning differences , not on the spectrum. We had complained about a boy who my daughter said was obsessed with her. We requested for her to not be in the same classroom as this boy, request denied. Then one day her mood shifted and she cried every morning not wanting to go to school. She couldn't tell us what happened. It was too traumatic for her to voice it. She was in 4th grade. Her behavior was very anxious and not able to stay in the classroom. They tried to accommodate her by spending time in the principles office. She was still not able to stop panicking. We had to take her out. 5 years of therapy later it was revealed she was sexually assaulted in the bathroom by the boy. She is still traumatized by it and probably always will be. We have been through hell. Suicide attempts , inability to focus, an eating disorder etc etc etc. she is now in 10th grade having to be held back a year because of lost class time due to the trauma. And disgustingly this was not an isolated instance. The one family we became close to who also left discover the same boy sexually assaulted their son. I'm not saying the school itself is awful in sure there are amazing experiences and caring teachers. And for many we met there this is the only option so you naturally choose to accept or maybe turn a blind eye to red flags. I don't know if the head of school has changed but she was awful.
