My experience with Montefiore regarding my son's care is awful with going through circles no one contacting you back regarding issues with my son's medication n patiently waiting inaccurate details constantly unethical n unprofessionalism among employees giving wrong information with patients information for simple things n no administration or director in place when conflicts arise to find simple solutions to properly prioritize patients n support them in a timely manner I don't know what happened to this hospital caring for their patients needs read more

I went to the 210 street Montefiore hospital entrance, in the Bronx, to see my best friend who is in ICU and most likely not going to survive past this week, due to a massive heart attack, and was denied entry, I would like to elaborate and state that I am a retired NYPD DETECTIVE and I was carrying. I understand the hospital has its policies, but due to the circumstances I would think that common sense would prevail. A hospital receptionist pleaded my case to no avail. My mother Milagros Diaz (age 65) experience with oncologist Dr. Kaubisch from Montefiore Hospital was devastating, and I feel compelled to share our story so others are aware of the level of care they may receive from him. From the start, (April 2024)the oncologist lacked sensitivity, compassion and wasn't informative enough as he should've been given the fact that he's a professional licensed oncologist. He didn't provide us with all the possible treatment options to treat pancreatic cancer, and my sister and I had to advocate for our mother to ensure he was more involved in her care. Our 1st important question to him after doing our own research and noticing that chemo was wiping her out was why radiation wasn't considered before chemotherapy, and only then did he reveal that her cancer was in multiple locations--information that had never been shared with us until that question was asked. My mother had endured several rounds of chemotherapy, which drained her physically and mentally. Her appetite diminished, and she began to lose her independence, which was extremely difficult to witness. We later discovered that my mother qualified for a clinical trial because of her biomarkers, something the oncologist should have mentioned from the start. When I brought this up, he confirmed her eligibility for Lynparza and even mentioned that he had a patient who had been successfully on that treatment for over two years. This was a painful revelation, as it felt like a missed opportunity that could have extended my mother's life or, at the very least, offered her a better quality of life. I also need to mention an important fact that the cancer was stage 2 when it was discovered. The oncologist's communication, or lack thereof, was often condescending. For instance, he once advised my mother to put bourbon on her food to stimulate her appetite--despite the fact that alcohol had already been suspected as a factor in her cancer diagnosis. His lack of professionalism became even more evident when he coldly told her she "wasn't going to be fine" after my mother expressed her faith in God and her belief that she would be okay. His brutal honesty was unprofessional and insensitive! Ultimately, my mother only lived four months after her diagnosis. The treatment plan he proposed--shrinking the cancer with chemotherapy to make it operable and then following with radiation--failed. The cancer spread to her lung and spine. My mother had so much fight in her, but in the end, she wasn't given the proper chance because her care was in the hands of someone who didn't seem to care and his lack of compassion showed at every visit. I hope no other family has to go through what we experienced with him. read more

Abhorrent hospital, the staff in VERY ill equipment with proper techniques that must be used by doctors and nurses. They do not properly case for patients and they are VERY dismissive when you try to find accountability from them. They are so happy to bill the insurance for all the cost of a stay here but what they delivery is atrocious. Ba safe with your loved ones and NEVER take them there for care, they will be exposed to abominations counted by their staff, the worst part is the reprehensible behavior is not just from nurses, but also form actual listed doctors. Avoid this hospital at all costs. My elderly father had cancer and had to wait to be seen for 24 hours. Once he was admitted, it took the hospital staff almost two weeks to figure out what was wrong with him. It takes forever to get tests scheduled there. The hospital is on slow speed. My dad wound up dying a horrible death two weeks after I brought him to the ER. I will never go back there again. I'm horrified by the experience my dad and I had there and so sad that he had to end his life in such pain because the hospital was so slow in diagnosing him. I'm traumatized by this. This hospital gets zero stars from me, but that's not an option, so I'm giving one star. And the doctors are all too busy to give a hoot about their patients. Terrible place. read more

TERRIBLE. besides the docto that I am grateful for staff is very rude and horrible kitchen staff. I am a vegetarian they wanted to kill me because I asked for non-meat and was told my should have told them that before this is not a restaurant I completely understand but I have been NPO since the day before my surgery. I am here two days now is 4:15 AM and I'm hungry. I almost wanted to cry. Even the nurse has passed the buck along. The Emergency Room is overcrowded, disgusting, and inhumane. Most of the staff were great and it's terrible that they have to work in those conditions. We spent over 30 hours in there with limited answers. My husband was finally admitted and that was even worse! They do NOT keep you informed on your care. Communication is TERRIBLE. I would not recommend the ER and I would not recommend Dr. Yassari, for both how HE handled my husband's care and his staff, especially his PA Adaobi. read more

One of the better if not the best hospital in all of NYC. EMT took me here after passing out in a subway station in the Bronx. I'm a diabetic and had a cellulitis infection that caused a life threatening drop in blood pressure. I was in the hospital for 18 days. Their doctors were so knowledgeable and nurses kind. I have had relatives referred here for care from an emergency room standpoint. While I may be used to the larger hospital systems in Manhattan, the care offered has been generally good, but with big city emergency room frustrations. The billing dept is incompetent, I had physical therapy at a Motion PT office. I had to pay out of pocket, but I felt it was worth it as the therapist was awesome. For that I paid $100 for each visit which was the out of office price. However, now six months later, Montefiore continues to send me bills indicating that the price was $135, and therefore, I owe $35 for each visit . I have literally spent hours trying to get them resolve this internally, to no avail. Each time I get another bill, I call and am told they will fix. Nope, I am still receiving bills. Cardiac This hospital was very dissapointing. Very few nurses cared abour their patients. Do not try to make an appointment with the Doctor's. If you do they do now show up at the appointment time and you have to wait at least 3 - 5 hours if they show up. My father had a procedure scheduled and we were in the ICU waiting for them for over 4 hours to be told that they did not have an Anesthesiologist team available and would have to cancel. Would not guarantee they would be there the next day and had to wait 2 days. When he did have the procedure we were told a soon as the procedure was done they would let us know and we would be able to see him. The procedure was only a little over an hour. After 5 hours we finally found someone to tell us he had been in ICU for over 3 hours. He though we left and was very upset. We were there waiting to see him. They did something wrong and we were told he did not have much time left and he was very upset but we would be able to get him to Calvary within a few days. They were suppossed to do the paperwork on Friday. They never did it until we asked 20 times on Monday and if was finally done but not as a rush. He was taken off all medications and moved to another room. He called my at 9am on Sunday morning screaming that no one would come to the room to help him. I went there and made sure they gave him pain medication. The nurses name was Evelyn and should be fired. My father was looking forward to going to Calvary and understood. I asked them to put him on a light Morphine drip and was told his kidneys could fail. They were alerady failing and they were supposed to keep him out of pain. I slept with him for 2 nights at the hospital in a chair. The last day he was sceaming in pain again and I had to find a nurse again and they said they were giving him the pain medication immediately. They asked me to leave the room to clean him up. There was nothing to clean up, he was sleeping until he woke up in pain again. I asked if I could use the bathroom to brush my teeth since I had been there for three days. When I came out after 5 minutes they said he was passing. He did pass a few minutes later but I will never know what they gave him within that 5 minutes. Checked in to the emergency room at 3:30 pm From 3:30 pm to 7 pm ( shift change) NOTHING was done. From 7pm to 11 pm they were able to take a blood sample and a scan. Impossible to get in touch with providers. Regularly 15-30 min hold times and then you get transferred to someone else. All providers have no accessibility for disabled persons- parking is full after 8 or 830 am in both visitors and hospital lot. Elevators regularly broken. No entrances except main are wheelchair or crutch or hand disability accessible. My chart sends out appointments for scans, blood work and other diagnostics with random times and it is not possible to reschedule. You can call and wait 20 min and have someone put you on hold 5 times when they can't find your records. If you need copies of your medical records , forget it. Multiple ways of contact, including phone and fax over several months and still not results. I have been sent to the wrong building a couple times, which is super fun in wheelchair. If your problem is not a very specific specialty, you will be told that it is not "my thing" and will not be helped to find anyone else. Wait times to see Dr are months, even for critical and time sensitive conditions. "call back every morning for the next month to see if there are cancelations". Some of the Dr are competent and empathetic, but the majority are both perfunctory and not always even correct. Many clear misdiagnoses caught elsewhere, though after having to repeat diagnostic tests that can't be transferred. Support staff are also rude, not knowledgeable or helpul. The Dr that are great do not stay - they leave and go practice elsewhere. read more

I do enjoy my Primary Care Doctor Dr. Robles and he deserves a 5 at this practice. However the organization as Montefiore Hospital is terrible. They lack transparency, and information with copays and will bill you with amounts that exceed the cost estimates. Do not go to this place unless you check with your insurance for any copays, as they will tell you whatever they think is right, and then bill you 200 or even 400 dollars later. Very dissatisfying to be told one thing, and then be billed something completely different. read more

*This review is for the cafeteria only.* This is a large hospital and the area is sometimes referred to as Montefiore Country, since there are quite a lot of offices connected to this hospital for several blocks. Opinions vary on the actual hospital and while I'm sure some aspects are quite good, others are probably not. For example, if my intestines were hanging out, I'd probably attempt to put them back in myself rather than go inside this ER. In fact, you're probably healthier OUTSIDE Monte ER's than inside. If you want to spend an average of 12 or more hours, want to be uncomfortable, and risk sickness, then the ER is for you. But I digress. I sometimes work in the area and decided to change up my lunch options and try the cafeteria - knowing that it IS a hospital cafeteria in the first place. Depending on the time you go, you may or may not find seating - but there is plenty of it during a less crowded time. They do clean, but it's not as frequent as they should. It's very spacious, so you don't have to sit next to anyone if you prefer not to. There is also a charging station for your devices inside here. The food itself ranges, but most is decent - the problem is the selection. Montefiore is a Jewish hospital, so the food is always prepared Kosher. Plus Montefiore is on their "health" kick, so you won't get the best beverage selection inside (unless you find the gift shop) and only what they deem as healthy (water, oj, diet/sugar free soda, etc). They go hard sometimes on their vegan specialties, so even if you're not a vegan have fun. Depending on when you go, they have pre-made sandwiches available. Again, Montefiore prepares the way they deem it and not how a lot of others would normally like it, so be prepared. They do have a deli inside, but I haven't tried it yet to see the difference. The hot food menu is different daily and sometimes the options are decent. They also have a salad bar, but it lacks during less busy times. The staff is usually ok. They have more than enough condiments to satisfy most. It's a little pricier than they have any right to be, but due to the limitations of food choices in the area, it's sometimes a safe bet and worth spending the extra few cents to eat a little healthier (when I want to Monte, not when YOU want to) at times. Also some of the businesses in the area don't have adequate seating for lunch options, so this is where the added value (to me) is. Parking is horrendous. The area is busy and the main streets are metered. There is plenty of signage for alternate side and just general no parking, so unless you're on foot or use mass transit and are going to be in the area anyway, I'd never come here just for this place. Again, I sometimes work in the area, so it's ok for me. Monte's parking garages are often full and overcharge (even for employees). So say what you will about the actual hospital and it's surrounding facilities, but as far as their cafeteria goes, it isn't a bad choice in the area at times. read more

My fiancé fell off a scooter, hit his head and injured his arm on the way home. We came to Montifore for medical attention hoping to be seen and treated in a reasonable amount of time. We arrived at 8pm and at the time of starting this review it's 1:37am and we're just getting taken to the x-ray area now. Mind you this is after I lost patience and asked if he's even getting an x-ray. The doctor looked and I mean looked at him at around 10pm. For 4.5 hours my fiancé had to sit in pain because about 30 minutes ago he was given a Percocet. I also think that was very irresponsible because they looked at him and just assumed they'd try a highly additive substance without asking his drug history! Hoping all goes well with the x-ray. Hasn't happened yet...! Hopefully we'll be out by 2am. Lesson, don't get hurt But if you do it's a Future party over here... read more

This is a review for Montefiore Einstein Advanced Care at Manhattan West Plaza - same company's fancy new midtown digs (don't be fooled by appearances) - and specifically Dr. Yossef Blum, MD who operates at both locations. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience from beginning to end. They changed my appointment THREE times within the span of the final week (including on the actual morning of), causing great inconvenience to me, especially as someone with a disability. Then there were insurance issues galore, despite me flagging it from the outset (essentially switching "regular Medicaid" to Medicaid by Fidelis the same say of appointment) and going above and beyond to make sure I was covered. I even had the insurance company phone them to confirm my status on the day of appointment, with me waiting on hold on the other line, having given them the exact name of the doctor and receptionist who had been across the issues. After Fidelis confirmed I was good to go, even telling me I was meant to arrive at 2:15 instead of my stated (and booked) time of 2:30. Again, that info would have been helpful on the many, many times I confirmed times and anything I need to bring/prep, aside from the referral. Anyway, I trek into Manhattan only to discover on arrival they had no record on that convo and sure enough, my insurance was not going to be accepted. At this point, I lost the power of speech, handed over my card and sat in the waiting room crying flood of silent tears. Some time later, and after a long wait, they confirmed I was good to go. First thing, I was lead from reception straight into an X-ray room and simply asked which knee was hurting. Alarmed, because it's actually my hip, I insisted on talking to a Dr before anything was done. Even that seemed outrageous to them, bc now I'm assuming they just drag every unsuspecting patient in for random X-rays before talking to anyone but the receptionist. Eventually I spoke to a lovely German nurse and then finally, after a long wait, the doctor. From beginning to end, this doctor's manner was arrogant and condescending. He started talking about Xrays & MRIs -- but only in the context of insurance and money -- even before I had explained ANYTHING about my situation! Once I explained I'd already had an X-ray at the Urgent Care, I was asked to present it - or, "the CD" - which of course I did not have. Then he started rubbishing the Urgent Care team, suggesting their X-rays would be bad anyway and the Dr wouldn't have known what he was talking about. It was incredibly frustrating and I asked if we could first talk through the issues, and I was made to feel like I was being difficult. Finally, he started going through a checklist on some form, asking seemingly random things that I couldn't necessarily answer and that didn't seem relevant to my situation. Increasingly frustrated and visibly upset still, I asked in if I could just explain in my own words what had been going on. When I did, he threw out some bizarre theories that I was probably just sick "like with Covid or a cold", which would somehow explain the agonizing pain in my hip that woke me up in the middle of the night. I told him I hadn't been sick with anything since July (it's now May). The fact that my pain was currently 0 or 1, despite being an 8-10 just two weeks ago when it came on, seemed to throw him and he seemed to have no interest in helping me unless I got the expensive scans done, despite me having no idea if it would be covered and being long-term unemployed with a disability. He did some completely random 'examination' poking and manipulating my legs and hips. I felt nothing, even whilst explaining it had never hurt to push, even at the height of the pain. I ended up just giving up and when the lovely nurse walked me out, I realized it only hurt to put weight on it, aka when I walked. At no point had the Dr asked about this but there was no way I was going back in. I walked (/limped) out and never looked back. Whilst collecting myself outside for 10 mins and having another big cry, I overheard another patient with her two family members complaining about the same things - being messed around with the scheduled, waiting HOURS and being told completely unhelpful and nonsensical things by the same doctor. He even body shamed her, which broke my heart. FUCK THAT DOCTOR AND FUCK THIS PLACE. SHAME ON YOU! read more

Worst hospital ever. The nurses and the doctors don't care about anyone's health and they neglect a patient's care. The patient was perfectly fine when she walked in and they overdosed with heparin and neglected her needs. There were no doctors or nurses available on the seventh floor of this Montefiore Einstein hospital which they call intensive care unit the whole night and the patient was asking for water for more than 4 hours, and they didn't give her any until she was severely dehydrated. Patient called her daughter to Canada , daughter from Canada called back the nursing station and patient received a sip of water. The doctors/nurses were laughing at a patient in the other room after the patient was grieving and saying 'I couldn't sleep the whole night' and one of the doctors laughed and said 'She didn't sleep? she's lying. She slept the whole night'. The care in this hospital is worse than any clinic in the world. Even third world countries have better care. Shame on Montefiore. A patient walked inside the hospital just fine with her own two legs and perfectly fine, and now she will be leaving this hospital with a dead body and her whole family grieving over the pain caused just because of Montefiore's doctors and nurses dropped the ball which they are admitting. This is not just a review but also a reminder to not send any of your family members because they will not save your or their life. They will take it because all they want is money. They changed the staff as soon as we mentioned their wrongdoing and negligence. After the patient is created in a vegetative state and to cover up their negligence and wrong doing, CT scans were being ordered every 6hours, EEG machines were summoned.The doctors decided to take care of the patient when she already stopped opening her eyes, talking or moving anything and stopped responding they infused so much heparin that patient brain started to bleed and no help was provided. Montefiore just murdered and healthy patient and converted them to a state that we are waiting for a call that patient is not alive at this moment patient is on ventilator with no sensation, no feeling and brain dead. Just not even breathing on her own, and now they took her right to breathe away from her too. And to cover up their own mistakes, they're now giving her the treatment she deserved when she was in her senses and conscious. These nurses and doctors killed someone intentionally and are now covering up their own mistakes because they know they're in the wrong. We all want our family members to live, that's why we take them to the hospitals. Not so the doctors can kill that innocent soul and person who wanted to live dearly. Nurses play tic tac and candy crush which on duty and on payroll. Doctor know that and changed all nursing staff from the floor. Pictures can be provided. Please save your family from being murdered by incompetent staff which Montefiore is hiring for their own gain. We are all humans not rodents so Monteriore and its nudes, doctors can do experiments, show gross negligence and murder innocent souls. read more

Why the F*** do I have to waste 15:27 just to get a number to my doctor's office when the woman could have just told me that she could provide it since I had a customer service center for the hospital? I had to get grief from the supervisor as well. When she told me she could give me the doctor's assistant's number, I said to go ahead, and she stated that I should let her explain why. They never answer your phone, to hear your concerns. I have requested the cortisol shots for a month, and despite having pain, and it affecting your work, they do not care. I didn't know how to trim the following review down, as I did multiple times and was left with the following: I wanted to give Montefiore a great review, as before going I was excited to get blood work done that was long overdue. After going to Montefiore to get the task done, I was upset by a receptionist in their laboratory/blood work department that caused me to stay there 30-60 minutes longer than necessary. I took a physical examination sometime back, and when finished was given a laboratory/blood work order form. I was also given instructions to hand it in to the laboratory/blood work unit at Montefiore within a certain time frame, and in doing so allow them to know how much blood to draw, what to test for, and if they need to have me provide a sample of urine. I went to the department, and when there was met with a young latino woman in her early 20's when I approached it's front desk. She seemed naive, jovial, unprepared to work, unprofessional, and unfit for her position. During her interaction with me I was made upset, lied to, and had my day soiled. The reason for this was her lying to me on multiple occasions in regards to a claim of my laboratory/blood work order form not being usable. This ended up extending my stay as mentioned above. The form had a date on it, and a disclaimer stating it's usable/valid for up to 1 year after it's noted date/issuance. I showed up within that time frame, but after six months of the noted date. As a result there was an unexpected discrepancy. The woman working their front desk was handed my form, she glanced it over, gave a sour look, and attempted to hand them back to me. She claimed I appeared for blood work after a six month period, and their policy is to not accept laboratory/blood work forms six months after their noted date. I contested her statement, stated they're valid for up to a year according to the form/my physician, asked her to make an attempt to check their validity on her computer/with a laboratory technician as a standard procedure, and attempted to hand them back to her. This is where she began to lie. She handed them back, stated I should leave to get new forms as her need to verify the validity of the forms on the computer/with a technician was unnecessary based on her personal opinion, was challenged again, changed her story to attempting to input information and seeing it as invalid on the computer, received a request to explain it to me further due to conflicting stories with the form/my physician and to possibly read me the message, changed her story again, and stated her computer was incapable of checking a 2nd time/"locked" as a result of putting in my information. She then stated I should "trust her" again, and attempted to convince me of not wanting to send me on an unnecessary journey unless it were necessary. After the exchange I decided to go to the floor in which my physician works, and contest the rejection, request for further explanation/a call downstairs to support my memory if affirmed, and was surprised to discover a front desk person on the floor affirming my ability to use the forms, made claims of them arguing/being difficult over a simple task if called, and not wanting to "hear"/deal with their complaints/insubordination as a result of a call. The front desk person wrote my physician an e-mail/left him a "note" to print more forms, and I was forced to wait 30-60 minutes for them. After receiving them I was able to have the new forms processed, have any necessary laboratory work done, and left shortly after. The problematic front desk clerk from earlier wasn't on duty by the time I returned. For the reasons listed above, I wouldn't recommend visiting this hospital. There are others in the city, and perhaps a better time would be had at any one of them. read more

I have been coming to this hospital since I was a newborn and I am beyond disappointed. I will be contacting HR and I will complain on all social media about how they hire health care professionals who obviously do not like people, along with switching my hospitals. The staff they have working the ER on gunhill road/bainbridge right now (Tuesday March 7th 12AM) needs to be RE TRAINED. I have severe abdominal pain and I'm walking home in tears right now. I came in told the nurse there my symptoms and she couldn't have made it clearer that she couldn't care less. Facial expressions are louder than words. 20 minutes later when the pain was too much I told her "I think I need to go, I'm in so much pain and I need to lay down" this "nurse" continued filling out her forms and said "well it's your choice" when I said I would come back tomorrow she said nothing. Didn't ask how I felt didn't even ask how bad the pain was. Thank you Montefiore. After 22 years, you've shown me how much you care about your patients. Avoid their if you can. Go to Beth Israel in Manhattan you'll have a better chance of good treatment minus the poss poor attitude of the staff of that ward. read more

I don't know why these people have such low rating especially a place like this that sees thousands of patients a day. My wifes neurologist Dr. David Altschul and his staff did a brilliant job saving my wife when she had a double aneurism and a stroke. Even the social workers here work very hard to get you what you need. Wether it be Medicaid or to find a rehabilitation for someone you love to go to that isn't a rats nest. read more

As a visitor the staff is horrible. They misinform you and then are sarcastic and condensing with their replies of I'm so sorry. I was told I would be able to visit my relative and I traveled more than an hour to get there only to be told I could not visit. I requested to speak to a charge nurse and they continued to deny me in speaking with him or her. I told my relative not to go to this hospital but I got exactly what I expected. Never again will I visit, be patient, or have anything positive to say about miserable montefiore!! read more

Recently my job blocked a lot of sites including Yelp. I still managed to get on here to write this review because it's THAT ghetto. I'm not sure if it's because I'm used to Hospitals in Queens/Long Island or even the City. My Grandma had to get emergency surgery in January at downtown Presbyterian (which was great btw) but this is seriously horrible! All I could think about was that dumb commercial about this hospital and the lady saying how great it is and that is why she travels so far. REALLY?! What a bunch of crap! I was here because a close friend of mine's husband was in extreme pain. With that being said, this is the hospital he comes to because he also has pancreatic cancer(advanced). He arrived Sunday at 7 and was finally brought to a room Monday at 7. I mean I know things are rough but wow 24hrs? Moving on, so I went on Monday night with my friend. We walked in the ER (and I've seen plenty of ER's in my time) but WOW they have beds stacked in front of beds. Ppl like sardines in here. Luckily at this point he was brought to his room. The P.A was fair and informative along with the nurse being nice for the night. That is the only positive thing I can say in ref to the experience. Yesterday I went back and these two NASTY nurses basically screamed at me for walking in the hallway while the guy was cleaning it. I'm far from shy and let them know in a nasty tone that they are nurses and have horrible bedside manners! It's the way you say things to ppl! No one is helpful there. Every time you ask for something or need something it's hit or miss depending on who is there at the time. No one knows anything. This hospital is in DESPERATE need of new management. To sum it up, if you can go to a better hospital- DO IT! ONE WORD : G-H-E-T-T-O! read more

If you need a Rheumatologist, I'd like to recommend Dr. Bivin Varghese, in New Rochelle, NY. As a woman, I'm usually only comfortable with female Dr's, but Dr. Varghese was wonderful, patient and kind. He spent as much time with me as needed, explained everything very carefully, with compassion and care, and without an ounce of condescension. Smart and thorough, my visit with him was a very pleasant experience, and I highly recommend him. The staff was lovely and accommodating as well. All in all, an excellent Doctor. Seriously I HATE THIS PLACE ! For every reason possible other then my doctors is amazing let me explain.. I am pregnant and should have my exams when my doctor says needed. There's always a problem ! They don't have me scheduled when suppose to. They talk to you like they don't belong in a medical office (GHETTO). They have you waiting without keeping you updated (2 hours). They're always sarcastic to me. I hate this place it makes me feel like I don't wanna come to make sure my daughters okay just cause of the staff. I love my doctor here but hate this staff !
