I would pass on the NY strip steak though, nothing special. I might try the ribeye next time. I did LOVE the bone marrow toast. That was probably my favorite bite of the night. I would also like to try the octopus next time. For dessert, I had the affogato with vanilla hazelnut ice cream and the panna cotta. The panna cotta was the star of the two dishes. Came here on a thursday at 6:30 PM with a reservation, but it wasn't super busy, so you could probably get by without one. There's an area in the front that was more of a typical restaurant atmosphere, but we sat in the covered garden room in the back, which was a really nice ambiance. We ordered one of their specials, a toast with arugula and beef carpaccio, as well as the squid ink pasta, which came out to be $60 total. The beef carpaccio on the toast was my favorite bite of the meal. The bread was also a good level of crisp, and I liked the flavor of the spread on top. The squid ink pasta had a good tomato and white wine flavor in the sauce, and I enjoyed the al denteness of the noodles. However, I did find the pasta to be a bit sandy, so I don't think the clams were fully cleaned. read more

My husband and I stopped at Montesacro while staying with a friend in Brooklyn, NY. We were looking for a romantic Italian restaurant to grab dinner before meeting our friends for drinks. Montesacro was just the place! The interior was cozy and inviting, and we sat in the back room which sort of resembles a green house with many windows and greenery. We told our waiter we were in a bit of a time crunch to meet our drink reservation, and he was thoroughly attentive. He placed our order quickly and the foot arrived within 10 minutes. The quality of the pinsa was delicious - the crisp texture of the guanciale and the sweetness of the honey were amazing together. The bolognese pasta was also delicious (if you can't tell from the photo - there's barely any left). We visited on a Wednesday night, and agreed it was a charming spot. The space is surprisingly roomy for Brooklyn, and the garden area was especially lovely. The rain lightly hitting the clear roof added the perfect cozy ambiance. Food-wise, I really enjoyed the salad. The freshly cracked pepper on top was noticeably flavorful, though I'm personally not a huge fan of having to cut the lettuce myself. The true standout, though, was the Cacio e Pepe. Buttery, rich, perfectly peppery, genuinely a showstopper. I'd go back for that dish alone. The only downside was the service and organization. A few minutes after being sat down, we were asked if we needed more than an hour because a birthday party would be taking the table later. This felt strange and unnecessary, especially given how much open seating the rest of the restaurant had, I don't know why we were sat in the section to begin with. Throughout the meal, the service wasn't very attentive, and the subtle rushing took away from what could've been a really relaxed dinner. The menu is a little overwhelming, but delicious food and a lovely space. I wish the service matched the rest of the experience, but it seems to be a great place to throw a birthday party. read more

From the outside, it appears to be a small, cozy spot but once you step inside, there's a garden area off to the left with additional seating in the back. The ambiance is dimly lit, warm and inviting, it's perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner with family. We started with the focaccia and burrata. The focaccia was crispy, light, and flavorful. For our mains, we ordered the cacio e pepe, the margherita pizza, and the bistecca (NY strip). Each dish was executed well and full of flavor. The cacio e pepe was perfectly balanced, the margherita was fresh and classic, and the bistecca was cooked just right. All three are definite must haves. Really cute vibes and staff! I picked this one off of Yelp and reading reviews and my craving for pasta. I was not disappoint! Pictures always help me out and I really appreciate seeing what the menu had to offer and I asked the staff member what was good. I was craving a good protein and got the grilled octopus to start and then the cacio e pepe. The octopus was grilled and came over top this chickpea and celery (thinly sliced) olive (thinly sliced) salad. I thought I hated chickpeas but love love love them now. It was a simple and and mild in flavor but the octopus cut like butter. It was larger than I thought but for the price its a good portion. The cacio e pepe was creamy salty and everything I was craving that I had to eat it all (NO LEFTOVERS THIS TIME). My wife and I had a 6 pm reservation on a Saturday and were seated right away. The garden dining area is gorgeous and has a retractable roof which was open. All of the staff were friendly and attentive. We selected porchetta, coppa de testa, and carciofi for appetizers. The porchetta and coppa de testa were the personification of porky goodness! That said, the carciofi stole the show! Perfectly tender and served with mint pesto and paper thin lemon slices, absolutely divine! My wife had the New York strip steak, served with an amazing layered potato side, and delicious greens. I had the pinsa from the specials menu. It featured ramps, fava beans, Calabrian chili, and lemon zest. Texture was awesome and the flavors were the essence of spring. Have to admit, the Calabrian chilis are hot enough to be addictive. We had the squash to start; I loved the honey but my friend found it too sweet. We had the beef tartare as well which was absolutely delicious. We came for a double date on a blustery evening in early March. We had a reservation that our party was late for and they still seated us, which was greatly appreciated. We ordered the ponte milvion pinsera to share -- it came with a decent amount of potatoes and the mozzarella was delicious and creamy. It was difficult to cut, maybe it would be better to cut it before served? It's not like an enclosed hot pocket but more of an open face pizza. I ordered the Pappardelle after discussing with the waiter and my husband the a red sauce special pasta. His was definitely better, despite mine coming highly recommended by the waiter. I found my dish to be incredibly salty, to the point where I could not finish it and ended up drinking water to satisfy my hunger. We opted to skip dessert and left. Overall, the ambiance is lively and could be nice, it was dimly lit and great for date night or dinner with parents. Seated for 4 at 7pm tonight reservation at the Garden. I nominate this establishment as one of the best Italian spots in Williamsburg. The garden is a perfect place for intimate dinner or if you plan for an anniversary with your special someone, this could be it. Food wise, everything is marvelous, not a single margin error. We ordered the Arthicoke app which we think taste wise, it's just okay, portion is tiny. We also ordered Fritto Miso which we found it quite delightful [fried wild shrimp, squid, broccoli rabe] comes with their homemade tartar condiment. Then we proceed to order their pinsa with honey [this is a must order, very tasty!!] perfect crust, texture, the thinly sliced meat paired well with the honey and cheese. We also ordered the Bistecca - quite chewy, the meat quality could be better, nonetheless... cooked to perfection temp wise [we ask for medium rare], and Spaghetti Nero [squid ink pasta with seafood], this is really good for what it is. Walking in, there's plenty of seating inside but also a beautiful outside area that feels like you're dining and drinking in a garden. The menu is a good size , so there's plenty to order from without feeling too overwhelmed. What I love about Montesacro is the quality of the ingredients - the pasta is house made drawn durum-wheat and the pizza is proofed for 72 hours. We ordered a variety of dishes from the menu from steak to octopus to salad to pasta and pizza. The food came pretty quickly and everything was well seasoned. Some dishes are bigger than others but in general the portions are a good size. The atmosphere is great for any setting so I'll definitely be back to check it out again. read more

Made reservation on OpenTable for a special occasion and even stopped by two nights beforehand to see if there was any way to reserve a specific table for our group. Unfortunately, the server working at the time wasn't welcoming, wouldn't take my name, and just told me it wasn't possible - it would be first come, first served even with a reservation. On the actual night, I arrived 45 minutes early, and the host who greeted me at the door was also not warm or friendly. I felt like I was being a bother just by asking 2 questions. For such a special occasion, it was disappointing that the table offered to us was right by the entrance. When I politely asked to move more toward the back, the host seemed annoyed. Thankfully, once we were seated, everything turned around. Our server was absolutely fantastic - warm, attentive, and made us feel truly cared for. The food was also incredible! We had drinks at bar after and the bartender was not welcoming either. I had no idea that this place had a chain, but apparently, there are two locations in San Francisco. I'm surprised that there's only one in NYC. It's best if reservations are made as it can get filled up, especially during brunch times on the weekend. From the outside, it doesn't seem like it would be large. But there's a nice garden area in the back. It's really nice in that space and it's fully covered with glass walls and very airy. Came with 3 other people, so we decided to get an array of dishes such as the suppli, which has tomato and basil croquettes. It usually comes with three, but they gave us four. It was delicious. I totally recommend that one. We also decided on the Brioche French Toast, which was sweet and tasty, too. It has seasonal fruit compote, vanilla whipped ricotta, abs NY maple syrup. Another plate for the table was the Carciofi, which had baby artichokes and mint. That one was just alright. Nothing compared to the other two dishes. I shared a pasta and pizza dish. We ordered the Mezzaniche Alla Carbonara and the Infernetto. I enjoyed eating the pizza or, rather, pinsa as it is labeled on the menu. A pinseria! I have never had a pinsa, and after trying this place, I still haven't. When we entered during lunch time, it was like a small cafe with a bar to the right. A guy came out and led us to the garden dining area past a walkway (where the bathrooms are). It was really cute, and I can imagine it being a romantic spot at night. I ordered from the lunch menu. My eating partner and I both got pastas because that's what we were craving. The waiter offered to us the lunch special by adding on an argula salad. It was maybe a + $3 difference in price. I said sure! The salad came out looking like it was a a parm dish on a bed of arugula. Simple and tasty. The carbonara was not the same as what we had in Roma, Italia, but it tasted good. They were able to give us tonnarelli instead of the medium cut pasta. The guanciale was so crispy. The paccheri was the better pasta of the two. The ratio of pasta to sauce was just right. The flavor was great. I might have preferred having a different type of noodle, but this was an interesting take on ragu. My mom's avocado toast was honestly to die for and I'm not one to order avocado toast at places since it's an easy at-home recipe, but this one was so good that I would genuinely order it next time. The pietralata was good but if you're looking for a saucy pizza, I would recommend getting a different one, like the infernetto.
