And this first visit happened to coincide with my first time in Harrisonburg. The morning was cool, but not yet cold and the sun was unbridled by clouds. I could hear the sounds of people and caught the aroma of baked bread before I saw the rows of tables and tents. As fate would so favor me yet again, my first stop was a dog-centric vendor. Homemade treats, bandanas, and outfits. But that day I left with a JMU poop bag holder (have to represent for the family). Vendors ranged from bread to pastries to canned goods to locally grown apples (you know I got a couple of bags of those). At every table I found a friendly face at the helm. They were having a great time being there and so was I. Before it was all said and done I had so much stuff it required me returning to the hotel room and offloading before continuing the morning. I will also mention there was live music and some face painting occurring that day. Just a fun, relaxing, and perfect way to begin your Saturday. *During certain times of the year they have a Tuesday evening market in addition to the Saturday market.

I called them and asked if they had pasture raised eggs and they did. This farm stand is so cute and right off of US-33. As soon as you walk in, abundant buckets of colorful fruit and vegetables greet you. Staff was very helpful and answered all my questions. They even have some misfit produce available at a discounted rate. A lady there took a whole bucket of plump peaches home for really cheap. Everything is grown or produced locally which I found fascinating. The blackberries and cherries I got from here were absolutely divine and the non-GMO eggs I got from here also tasted amazing. They had tons of varieties of heirloom tomatoes and had fridges full of locally produced cheeses, desserts and other milk products. As well as meats and baked goods. If you are looking for organic, locally grown and produced food - look no further than this beautiful farm stand.

On Saturday we were having burgers so I decided to slice one of my ($4.00) tomatoes. This tomato was so mushy and so grainy that the entire thing was unusable. It had clearly been refrigerated. People who sell produce fir a living know better. Then on Sunday I was going to eat a peach. This was two days after purchase. Four of my six peaches were moldy and had to be thrown away. I spend a lot of money there every summer but I do believe that is over. The bad produce along with the rudeness of one of the workers I dont think I will ever go back.

Delicious crisp ciders with unique flavors and a light touch of sweetness. The ciders aren't sugary…read moresweet like Angry Orchard or Bold Rock but not dry like the ciders down south in Charlottesville. The tasting is a great deal and I believe it's $5 for 5 tastings and you can pay extra for more samples. There are no flights. The Off the Press cider with no added sugar was quite sweet on its own and my favorite! My hubby enjoyed the peach and Honey Ginger cider. The cinnamon spiced Wassail cider was tasty and perfect for the fall and comes in larger 16 oz cans (4 pack is $14) while some of the other flavors like the Honey Ginger and Peach ciders come in smaller, 12 oz cans (4 pack for $11). We bought 3 packs - Wassail, Honey Ginger, and Off the Press (Peach was sold out!) and devoured them within a week! I wasn't a big fan of the Strawberry and Blackberry ciders. There's outdoor seating to soak in the sweeping views of the Shenandoah hillside and the beautiful fields and pastures! The indoor seating is a bit cramped for only a dozen or so people. There's a small market next door that sells produce and meat. The food truck sold cider donuts and some hot food and drinks, I wish the donut was hot (it was stone cold!). I am not a fan of the Meade or cider, but my wife was so we drove the gravel road to the Old Hill Hard Cider brewery and orchard, and the view was spectacular. High up on a hill looking down over the valley. As for the service, she was incredibly accommodating. We ordered a flight of ciders and chatted with her about the dry versus the sweet. In the end my wife found a wonderful option, the Virginia blackberry cider. She said it was her favorite. I had a Virginia tannin which I found matched a white Sauvignon blanc in some flavor, and was good for sipping in the shade on top the hill. Later we walked through the market, grabbed a 1/2 gallon of cider and pet the area dog before we headed out. I wish it was closer, but it deserved a 5 star for the cider.
