The school has incredible teachers that are tremendously devoted to their students--students who are active in community service, environmental work and the local community in addition to studying and working towards the rigorous requirements of the International Baccalaureate diploma. Some of the many fantastic activities include adobe church restoration, working on mountain search and rescue teams through the school wilderness program, and a focus on activism and conflict resolution. With 200 students from over 70 countries, it may be in an isolated location, but there was never an opportunity to bored. It's probably the most stimulating environment I ever lived and worked in, bar none.

Seems like hard living for the students. Not a lot for them to do other than smoke pot and play…read morevideo games. They just recently got high speed internet so that's a plus. They also have trips into town 6 times a week in case you get hungry or want to buy some supplies, but once the lights go out it's curfew time and you either do homework or go to sleep. Also, the nearby hot springs are property of the UWC and so the students have to clean up after the drunken locals. Good size campus for a small college, but seeing as their alumuni is so small they don't have a lot of money to stay competitive.

I think the fact that I studied with him gave me an edge over equally-qualified candidates. Of course, I recognized that Kongsvik was a dynamic teacher during the training. His mastery was obvious the minute he began to address the class in Bambara, the indigenous language of Mali, thus putting us in our students' experiential shoes. I took his one-month intensive, and it was indeed intense. I worked hard, laughed a lot, slept little and learned so much. Not only did I learn how to teach English to speakers of other languages, I learned how to teach anything, and more importantly, I learned how to facilitate student-centered learning. The opportunity to immediately apply theory in an actual classroom situation is invaluable, but it's Kongsvik's extraordinary energy and sincere caring that transform this educational course into a memorable life experience. To use an idiom, the proof is in the pudding. With my certificate, I've landed paying jobs as a TESOL instructor.

The class size was just right, enough people to make it fun and social, but still small enough that everyone got involved. Chef Mica kicked things off by giving us an overview of the history of the area, its chile traditions, and the differences between the peppers we'd be working with and seeing around the city. That context added so much depth to the cooking, it wasn't just a class, it was a cultural experience. Each of us prepared a different type of relleno, and then at the end we all sat down and shared the full spread together buffet style. It was such a fun way to learn, connect, and taste a variety of chiles without spending hours cooking everything on your own. It was well organized, engaging, and easy to follow. My anxiety did kick in once I realized other people would also be eating what I made, but we made it through and I loved what I got, the jalapeno poppers. You can feel the passion in what the chef does and everything ran very smoothly even though we were the last done lol Come hungry and ready to learn! We walked away with some new skills, a deeper knowledge of peppers, and some great recipes we can't wait to try at home. This truly will be memorable for us!

Our class was on salsa sauces with different peppers and home made tacos. The class started with the chef walking us through the printed recipes and what was wrong with them. (Maybe redo these with correct recipes? And then go right to cooking and teaching?) Then we all chopped and cooked. At the end we got to taste everybody's products.

This place is dangerous. My child who was in the toddlers room, was there for a few months. The…read morelast day my child was there she kept getting charged/pushed at and thrown down by one kid. This was has going on for weeks. The last day it happened 4 times within 10 mins. I called and said to get that child away from mine. I go to pick up my daughter and as I wake her from her nap she is crying like she is in pain and face is bloody. I asked what in the world happened and they said she was pushed into a bookshelf 2 hours after I called. THEY NEVER CALLED ME TO TELL ME MY CHILD WAS INJURED. They played it off as a "bloody nose". I asked Carman why did no one call me, she said she "didn't know and toddlers push eachother, it's normal". WHAT!! All she does is lie. It was still bleeding when we left and when I got home as I was cleaning her up I noticed she had two gashes under her nose, a bruised lip, along with a bloody nose. It is not normal for a one year old to harm others like this! Also, this daycare is not reliable. They will stop taking children early in the morning because they are "under staffed" but the real reason is they accept more children into the program without being about to accommodate the ones that they have already. Like I don't even know how we got in. You have to get there an hour before they open to wait in line to even try to get in. Parents arguing with eachother because of parents skipping the line, IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN. They will stop accepting after #6 toddlers but when you look on the cameras there will be more than 6 in the classroom. You will miss a lot of days at work. There is really no structure and in the toddler room there is not a lot of toys or broken toys for children to play with. Kids just pushing chairs around all day. No structure. A teacher said they haven't gotten new things for the class room in a long time. I do think my daughter's development has halted while being here. Please don't take the negative reviews lightly. The people are not that great, Carman had lied to my face multiple times. How can you trust someone who is watching your child that lies. I informed the district manager and just pray that this place is investigated for the safety and well-being of the children still there.

Most days were not due to covid and we were not given an explanation to why they would not take our child after paying about $300 per week. No discount if they can't take him due to their accepting too many children. We will get text messages 5 minutes after opening that the toddler room is full. Lovely staff and curriculum but very unreliable. Would not recommend to a working parent.
