However, I need to warn my fellow Yelpers to stay away from Oliveto if you value Good Pizza! I mean, how hard is it to have good pizza!?! It is a simple staple which I have enjoyed in the US, in China and yes even in Italy. At it's most basic, it should be dough, sauce (doesn't have to be tomato necessarily), mozzarella and maybe some toppings, right? Here is where Oliveto went wrong for my mother and me: 1) they use cheap cheddar cheese - not mozzarella! 2) not a lot of sauce, maybe just enough to color it 3) the dough was soggy and didn't rise (I actually like thin crust, but this was inferior doug and 4) topping that were not as advertised, i.e. prosciutto should not look like and taste like store-bought sliced ham! Service was okay - the men like to talk about customers in their native tongue, thinking that patrons don't know what they are saying about them. We were so glad that we split a pie - most tables got a pie per person. Neither of us could finish this "pizza" honestly. Perhaps the only redeeming thing are the prices - this might be the cheapest choice in an otherwise expensive neighborhood.

The staff were kind and efficient. 5 - the dessert was just OK - had some scoops of ice cream and the peanutella was outstanding while the strawberry and the pistachio were just fine. 6 - the appetizer cheese plate was the real highlight of the night here. Fresh cold cuts and cheese with the most wonderful fig jam. All in all; this is a good stop and you certainly won't have a bad experience! Perhaps just not the most notable.

I felt quite spoilt from the moment I walked in. Where ever you choose the sit the food is excellent..... from the antipasto followed by an amazing Prawn Tempura and then on to the truly historic (a nod to Mr. Winner there) home made spinach and ricotta ravioli that seriously rival my mother's which has been hitherto unheard of. The lamb was delicious, perfectly cooked and rested enough to be meltingly tender. I also sampled Bottarga for the first time with more amazing home made pasta and it was a party in my mouth. Despite being very sated I couldn't resist trying the cheesecake, it was perfect. Being Italian people always ask me where they can get 'real' Italian food in London. The word 'real' invoking memories of startlit dinners and languourous lunches eaten under a Tuscan sun. In future......I'll be sending them to Il Giardino. It's a real taste of Italian Summer in a beautiful English Garden.

Our hotel gave us complimentary bread at dinner that was homemade, warm, and fresh! The Parmesan crisps (also $5) weren't as bad as the bread, but they were just bleh. We've bought better at Costco in the US. Lastly, my brother ordered the pasta with meat sauce and it was very watery. Not much of a sauce, just watery ground beef + pork. Service was wonderful though, I wish we got the name of our server she was great :)

This is a small, high-class Italian restaurant at the Parliament end of Great Peter Street…read more Unsurprisingly, it's a favourite for lunches with the Westminster village of politicians, lobbyists, trade associations and the like. The food is upmarket modern Italian, made with fresh ingredients, many sourced directly from Italy. I found the pasta to be fresh and tasty, with a wider choice of ingredients than I would normally come across - Cappellacci (little pasta pies) with potato & mozzarella, broccoli puree & pecorino di fossa cheese, for example. Vegetarians are reasonably well catered for, and they indicate a number of 'nearly vegetarian' dishes that can be made fully vegetarian on request, which is a nice idea. Soups and starters range from £9 to £10.50 and mains from £13.50 for pasta to £22 for steak or wild turbot (extra side dishes - vegetables or salad - come in at £3.50 per portion). Desserts come in at £6.50, but they are known for their Italian cheese-boards, featuring cheeses otherwise hard to find in UK restaurants: this varies from £7.50 for 3 cheeses, to a waist-expanding £11.50 for 7 cheeses (but can also be shared!). These are clearly very popular indeed and we saw several groups indulging. The wine list is also substantial - over 130 including champagnes - and this is a rather select mixture of French and Italian wines. A 12.5% service charge is added, so expect a two course dinner with wine to come in at around £50-60 a head: a simple lunch should be about £25 or so. I'd heard that service has been a problem for others, but my experience is that it was very good: if anything, the bread and water waiters were a little too attentive. We had to wait a little too long to order, but the food then came quickly, as did the coffee and the bill when we asked for it. It was all pretty friendly, as well - not as snooty as some places around Westminster can be. The price will make it mostly a business location, and it's clearly very popular for that: lunch bookings are essential. The tables are a little close together in places for a special intimate meal for two (some tables are better than others for this), but then again, who wants to risk having a politician on the next table on their special date? But they are happy to cater for groups and their website lists various group menus, which range from £30 to £44 per person (without drinks, sides or service). Note: they are open only Monday-Friday.
