My goodness. My family and I arrived without a booking and we were so lucky that they were able to accommodate us! The food was MAG-NI-FI-CENT. For our Starter, we ordered the deep fried squid. It was exceptional! Then came the bread. They were these perfectly little pillowy squares of joy. I simply couldn't get enough of them. Admittedly, I was skeptical about my entrée as I don't eat Italian food very much. I ordered the Tagliolini al Ragout di Manzo. Naively, I thought it was going to be a basic spaghetti and meat sauce. For that I am ashamed. I was served the best meal that I had during my entire two week stay in London and Barcelona. I added a few red pepper flakes and practically wept the entire time I ate. It was that good. One cousin ordered the same dish (and was equally moved by the flavors) and my other cousin had a dish that was made vegan just for her. My third cousin had the Spaghetti with Royal clams and she devoured every morsel. We all loved our dishes and the staff was helpful, friendly, and efficient. We came for lunch and it was packed. From what I could overhear from people trying to get bookings, dinner reservations are much harder to come by. We tried pizza and pasta and both were scrumptious! I walked over 2 hours because I really wanted to eat here so many of my friends recommended this place and I am traveling alone. When I told the person that I needed a table was just one he refused service because all there was were 4 tops (which wasn't true, there was a 2 top available but it's where the employees congregated which i can respect and understand but to deny service and shame someone on top of it is bullshit), i was insulted and he could tell so he said I either have to eat fast or bring more people with me. This is absurd I was going to eat for 2 people but i shouldn't have to say that. Fortunately, The place across the street called Made in Italy happily sat me down at a 4 top because that's all they had available. Made in italy did have some AMAZING food so maybe it was a sign- regardless to be told I can't be served because I'm alone is uncalled for. read more

We came on a Saturday late afternoon and asked if they had a table and were told no. When we inquired about how long the wait is or if they would take our name we were told they don't take names and we could come back if we wanted, all this while the person we were trying to talk to was walking away. Basically no one including the owner would even talk to us after that when we tried to understand when to come back. I've never encountered such rude service even in the busiest restaurants. I've been coming here on every single one of my many trips to London in the past 10 years because the food was always good but the service was so rude I'll never be back. They basically take for granted that they'll always have customers but if that's the attitude at some point even loyal customers like me will be fed up. read more

Lovely little place in Notting Hill. The staff took care of us despite being a handful of typical Americans... haha. We tried a lot of different things and everything was very tasty. We sat on the ground floor which was really nice because there are large open windows so it feels like you're outside. The sea bass filet was very delicious- almost silky, and the tortellini with spinach and ricotta was definitely creamy and luxurious. Yes I just called pasta luxurious. read more

If you love real Italian food, this is the place for you. The resto is cozy downstairs and trendy upstairs if a bit noisy. Try the Aubergine for starter and the tortellini with ricotta for a main dish. You must stop after each bite to contemplate how delicious the food is. The bread was outstanding and is a meal in itself with good quality olive oil for dipping. The spaghetti with clams was first rate. Not sure what kind of flour the are using. There is a little man with glasses! No offense, but he is maybe 4' 11"~ he has zero personality and is horrible .. dies not smile, has no personality no interaction about food questions or telling you what is good tonight! Has ZERO CHARM. He should be washing dishes.. he should not be dealing with customers. All other waitstaff adorable. However, Everyone walking around coughing! Yuck The little weird man keeps coming to my table and coughing... he is so gross! He has coughed all over the restaurant like 25 times. Go home! Dont come back ever! Had a horrible experience here Friday night. Had told my friend from out of town about this place and popped in 6.30/7pm to ask about a reservation for that night or another. A man (little with glasses) - I can only assume the owner - was extremely rude. We didn't even get the chance to talk. He shouted at us from across the entire restaurant, refusing to look at us, then just walked away and started talking to his staff mid my question. Bizarre, rude, arrogant behavior. I was embarrassed I had ever suggested the place to my friend. Will definitely be avoiding in future. Update: just read other reviews here which mention him too. By some cruel twist of fate, my husband is allergic to all shellfish, which means our kitchen is a shellfish-free-zone. Occasionally, my need for shellfish overwhelms every other sensation, and I demand we go someplace for dinner that serves these delightful little crustaceans. Tonight, that desire collided with the need for Italian, in close proximity to The Gate Cinema. Enter: Osteria Basilico. The spaghetti vongole served at Osteria Basilico rocked my world. It was perfectly simple, perfectly garlic-y, perfectly buttery, and oh-so sea-salty. The little suckers were served still in their shells, perfectly cooked and juicy. And let me say this: they did not skimp in the shellfish department. There were hundreds of them in there (note: this statement may not be testable or quantitatively accurate). Luckily for both my husband and for me, my need for shellfish has be satiated, at least temporarily. Equally luckily for both of us, we have now found a tasty Italian restaurant in a delightful little neighbourhood. read more

I had dinner with three other people and was a little bit disappointed with the timing of the food. My dish came out about 10 minutes ahead of the others..and not wanting to be rude, I didn't want to begin eating until everyone had their plates. My food ended up being lukecold, but still quite delicious. I ordered the Mezze Maniche con Melanzane, Pomodoro e Mozzarella (Pasta Tubes with Aubergines, Mozzarella Cheese, Basil, and Tomato Sauce) , which is 12.50 euros - not bad at all!! Oh baby. You have to come here for the smoked mozzarella on a bed of mushrooms in tomato sauce and prosciutto. Just think about that for a moment. Yeah. Come back and finish the rest of this review in a minute. Just come to this restaurant, order this, and don't worry, whenever the grim reaper comes for you, you'll die happy. And you'll float away on a ball of melty, stretchy, smoky cheese. As for what to get after your mozzarella? Well... For the gluten-eater in my life, it's always house-made pasta with an indulgent sauce, which changes with the season and the mood of the chef. I've also had some great anti pasti of the vegetable sort. After you've stuffed yourself on mozzarella, something light like grilled squid can be a welcome idea. Just be sure you call well ahead of time. This place is a destination as well as a local favourite. If you try to show up on a Friday at 8 PM, you'll have to go to one of the copy-cat places nearby. Which is not the end of the world. Gluten-free notes: No problems here. This place is run by Italians and they know what to do. After the cheese-ball of happiness, you can try risotto, grilled fish, or steak. Your life is good. read more

Living across the street one would think I would tire of the place. Nope. I eat here at least three times a month and love love love every experience. though I tend to get the same meals as I find myself craving a certain dish (ie: black truffle pasta with homemade tagliatelle and rosemary) for days before giving in, but the service and quality is routine on point and consistently top notch. I prefer to eat upstairs for lunch as the sun shines in (and you can be close to the anti pasta buffet and fill up your plate with grilled aubergine, mozzarella, squid, etc..) and I prefer downstairs for dinner next to the faux fireplace and to be surround by candles in wine bottles. It can be quite pricey when you start with the wine and mains, but pastas are very reasonable. It is definitely worth it. When it comes to Italian outside of Italy, this is as good as it gets. read more

Quite the lovely Italian restaurant located in Notting Hill. I came here with a friend based on his recommendation. We arrived on a weeknight around 8PM and the restaurant was completely full. Luckily we made reservations and got a nice little table for two downstairs. So... the bread. Holy crap, it's absolutely amazing. I had to restrain myself from eating too much. My friend even asked for a second basket. Slightly toasted on the outside with a soft middle. Dip those babies in olive oil and balsamic vinegar and you've got yourself a appetizing treat, as well as a fully blown carbo loaded meal. I ordered the Tagliolini con Gamberetti, Zucchine, Prosciutto Crudo e Pachino (Hand-made Tagliolini with Shrimps, Courgettes ,Parma ham and cherry tomatoes) and loved it. I hate to admit it, but I ate the entire thing in one sitting. *sigh* Kudos to my friend for a picking a superb Italian restaurant! I LOVE Osteria Basilico. It was probably 4 stars a couple of years ago, but as it seems the cooking has gotten even better of late, I can't fault this place. You can have a rollicking dinner with friends or a romantic meal here as the atmosphere manages to be intimate but fun-loving and civilised but unpretentious. The food is simple Italian, prepared using the freshest ingredients. If the weather is warm, sit outside with a thin pizza and a glass of white. On colder days, snuggle up inside (preferably upstairs: more scenic) and tuck into a veal milanese and some well-priced red. Or order anything else - you can't go too wrong here. And the bread... a delightfully warm basket of focaccia... The waiters can be harried at the busiest times but are rarely without charm. read more

I love going to a restaurant after reading a bunch of Yelp reviews and meeting or exceeding expectations. We had reservations at 9:30 and our table was downstairs. It felt so homey and loved all the Christmas decorations. The bread was so good to start especially since we're all so hungry that late. To start, we decided to share the tuna, aubergine parmagiana (yum! I can eat this as a main!), garlic bread (like pizza), burrata cheese and the white truffle fettucini which was amazing. For my main I ordered the Tagliolini which definitely was an excellent choice. For dessert, we ordered 1 tiramisu to share for 6 people as it was pretty big. Not the best I've had but I'd say good enough. Overall, the food and service was pretty good and would definitely be back for some more cibo. Ciao bella!! read more

I decided to come here grudgingly as it is across the road from my favourite restaurant. However I was best pleased with the outcome. Albeit the prices are expensive it sets the scene for a more intimate/romantic destination. This is definitely a good place for an fun night as part of a planned out evening. The wine is more expensive but they have quite a vast selection which is always nice. My favourite part is the amazing chicken salad (effectively a Caesar salad) which was quite perfect and then the beautifully presented veal escalope which I think is always a safe choice. Wandering into Notting Hill on a Thursday night without a reservation was a risky venture, and we knew it. So we were hungry -- and a little impatient -- by the time we found Osteria Basilico. They were also fully booked, but found us a table outside (and, thoughtfully, blankets, as even with the heaters we were a bit chilly ... nice touch ;-) Food was both reasonable and quite lovely, bread warm and nice, a little wine and we quite forgot the cold. As some other reviews have noted, the waiters can be a little hard to flag outside -- maybe it's the impatient Americans who always note this, we're so used to the bill hitting the table with the espresso -- but despite the busy service inside and turning a few also-unreserved people away, no one was in a rush to relieve us of our table at all, even when we sort of wanted them to. ;-) Lovely find, and we were glad to find it. read more

Here's the food rundown: - Burrata with Parma Ham - Excellent - do it. - Tuna Tartare - found the dish to pretty creative incorporating in fruit, avocado and salad - Garlic Bread is actually a garlic bread pizza: wife loves garlic bread and I love anything I can put burrata or tartare on - Tortelloni filled w/ Spinach & Ricotta Cheese: Very good, wish I hadn't filled up on apps so I could have eaten more. Exceptional service. Get upstairs if you can - reserve early. I'd put this on your short list of meals in London if you're seeking out some really good Italian without breaking the bank. read more

This Italian restaurant has a true local feel to it. You see lots of families and some couples, the ambiance is great, and it's a part of the essence of this place. They want you to feel at home. And the food they serve really takes you to a place of comfort. They only use super fresh ingredients, I had the delicious Tortellini with ricotta cheese and fresh basil, and it was superb! They also have a good selection of wines. I recommend you have as a starter the buffet; they serve an assortment of dishes that can calm down a fierce appetite until the pasta arrives. read more

I think I must have been a customer at Osteria Basilico for 15 years already This is a great local place for a simple and savoury lunch or dinner, the food is very good, very tasty and obviously very Italian. Yvan has been managing the place efficiently for so many years and always welcome people with a smile, whether they are the tourists visiting for a day on Saturdays for the market or regulars coming for dinner. I prefer upstairs for the tall windows and the airy atmospher but downstairs is very cosy and great for winter evenings. I used to go with friends when going out in Notting Hill and I now come back with my family and our 2 daughters who love the food, especially the pasta and pizza that they love. I really wanted to like it here, but honestly I wasn't all that swept away. There's some nice touches, but for the price I think we should have got something a bit better. The tuna I had was lovely, but it wasn't cooked rare like I asked. And honestly, the salad it came with was a little uninspiring. The new potatoes were peeled which was weird. There's not a huge amount of choice on the menu, but this is typical of Italian Trattorias. But, if you don't like veal, you're a bit stuck. I wished I'd gone for the lamb instead, but I do think five veal dishes on a menu is excessive. The wine was lovely, the staff were lovely, my strawberry ice cream was very very lovely indeed (I'd forgotten how much I loved that stuff). But it fell short for me. And I think if someone is paying £18 for a tuna salad, it should be nothing short of outstanding. The whole place could also be made much nicer if they moved one of the tables. I nearly dipped my coat on someone's dinenr we were that close to them. There was a poor couple only two inches away from our table - we weren't being very loud, but it does kinda ruin the romantic atmosphere is you feel like you're on a table of six with complete strangers. Great food, great atmosphere and great service! My friend and I made a last minute reservation to come here one day. We got a table downstairs but as it was very hot we asked if we could be moved upstairs. The waiters are all very polite and helpful. They found us a seat up stairs in no time at all. I ordered a starter as I wasnt that hungry of carpaccio. There was a fair bit of meat which was a pleasant surprise. My friend ordered tagliatelle which was yummy and again a fair size portion. We both had ice cream for dessert and it was one of the best ice creams I have ever had. All round a great experience!! read more
