Horrible Experience Botched Surgery and Ongoing Infections I'm writing this review to warn others about my terrible experience with Meghann T. She performed surgery on my dog, and it was done so poorly that the incision became severely infected shortly after. I had to take my dog to another veterinarian for a second opinion, and they confirmed that the surgical site had not been handled properly. Even after following all the aftercare instructions, my dog's wound continued to worsen. As of today, the infection has spread again there's a significant amount of bacteria buildup, and I now have to go through another round of treatment to clean out the area and run additional scans. The new vet also mentioned that because of the poor quality of the original surgery, the wound may not fully heal and could require a skin graft to close properly. I am devastated and heartbroken watching my dog suffer through this, not to mention the added stress and financial burden of ongoing treatments that could have been avoided with proper care the first time. I would not recommend Meghann T to anyone please do your research and choose a veterinarian who takes their time and prioritizes the well-being of your pet. She's already been reported. TLDR: This is the type of facility to leave body parts inside your animals, botch services, so they can blame you and subject your pets to more surgery all on your dime. My cat was going through heat at the time, which resulted in an upcharge that I accepted. None of the staff there had advised to wait until after her heat, they simply added the upcharge and I had no issues on this first visit and I thought things went well. Fast forward 2 months, my cat is now in heat again. With a quick Google search I learned this is likely to due to leftover ovarian tissue from a botched surgery. I called the clinic the next day, where they confirmed but said "maybe it's a UTI." I brought my cat in the next morning, where the vet graciously was able to see my cat in a hurry (likely because she messed something up). She said my cat showed no signs of being in heat and that I should pay additionally for a urine sample to rule out a UTI (something detached from her initial mistake that would result in more money being spent of course). I asked her why she couldn't just test her hormone levels (like my Google search the night before said they would likely do). She said testing for hormones would be impossible with this situation. I am not a doctor, but I find this obviously very odd. She, in all of her egotistical glory said, "Mistakes happen, customers should be aware of this and the responsibility to pay is on you - I said she did her actual job incompletely and it's crazy to make the customer pay for that." She then told me I was causing a scene and to leave her establishment. I feel bad for those that have to be around her. This is the type of facility to leave body parts inside your animals, botch services, so they can subject your pets to more surgery and make you pay more. This is a heinous business practice and Megan is an awful and rude person. My cat doesn't deserve to have to go through surgery again, I don't deserve to pay double for a standard procedure and I definitely didn't deserve that disgusting treatment! read more

Rude people, won't give pricing over the phone, dont work with rescues "at all", wont take new clients.....lmao..... these vets need to learn that we dont just accept anyone to care for our pets. Do not get your cat spayed here. They will do a terrible job, she was not stitched up properly and she will be in pain for days. Then they will charge you again to get her stitched back up when they didn't do it right in the first place and will blame you as the pet owner for it. This has been my clinic for the past 10 years. I've shopped around and there are other good vets in town. Montrose Vet got my dog right in last year when she needed a large, fast growing tumor on her back. They have affordable dental services. In fact, overall they have been affordable and it's easy to get in even with my crazy schedule. read more

Our pup fell and hurt his leg and was in a lot of pain. They wouldn't look at him. They said they were booked up and for emergency care we should drive 80 miles to Grand Junction. So don't expect them to go out of their way to help travelers. read more

Don't go here! Megan Tomlinson, vet on duty today, was the reason we left. First she said she couldn't get Covid vaccination alone. She told us we needed to go to our vet. (My husband had contacted their office about vaccines our dogs need for Bahamas). We told her we could get a full tray from our vet. Then she said contradicted herself. She could get a whole tray for $500. He said wow $500? Our vet could get that for $250. She told us again we should go to another vet. She actually said that 3 times without looking at computer for pricing or knowing we had discussed with our vet and SOME OTHER VET FROM MONTROSE VETERINARY CLINIC about this appointment. The only advice she gave that was helpful was "Go to another vet". So we did take her advice and will always choose another vet. Then office staff was wonderful. Terrible vet to have as their contact with pet owners. My suggestion: San Juan Veterinary Clinic is always professional, kind, and caring to its patients and people. We are purchasing a tray from our vet for $250 and will donate to needy pets. read more

My dog Kyra got into my garden (winter mulched beds) and ate something toxic that caused her to go into liver failure. My regular vet could not see her that day when we noticed jaundice so I took her to Montrose Vet as an emergency. She had never been to a vet office before (we had a mobile vet until last year that would do house calls) so it was important that me and my son stay with her while being evaluated. The staff told me they had to take her to an emergency room and that we were not allowed to go back there which really upset my son who is her primary care (we have a pack of dogs). They assured us the doctors were just going to take a look at her and come talk to us and it would only be around 10 minutes so we reluctantly let her go as she looked back at us terrified. 30 minutes later (after much pacing and inquiry) we were called back to a room where the vet came to talk to us. I asked where Kyra was and she said she was right next door and I demanded they get her to us. The vet proceeded to tell us that she was suffering acute liver failure and informed us they had ran blood tests and xrays WITHOUT MY CONSENT and then gave us dire prognosis of her imminent death if she was not kept at their clinic for 2 days on IV's and care. The vet did not even ask me about possible reasons for her liver failure like organic compounds from my garden before the performed tests on her and even shaved her belly to take XRays! I know a great deal about animal health and asked key questions before I made a decision to take Kyra home AMA and contact my regular vet. I demanded they release the medical records of the tests to my regular vet and they assured me they would send them immediately. When they issued me a $350 bill for her care (some of which may have been unnecessary) I gave them my CareCredit Card which my Uncle has me as an authorized user and it was declined. I called the company and because it was in my Uncles name I was told I had to contact him to straighten out the issue-he lives in New Mexico and would not be available until that night so I explained this to them and they told me they would NOT give me the 4 days (enough until Monday) of medication without payment so I implored them to explain the situation to the vet and ask for an exemption. After much debate they released the medication to me and I told them I would take care of the bill the next day. However the following morning after staying up all night with Kyra I called my regular vet to talk to her about Kyra's condition - they told me the Montrose Vet refused to release the records until my bill was paid! Kyra's life was hanging in the balance and these people were more concerned about money than the life of my dog. I went to their office with my son and demanded in person that they release the records so I could make decisions on Kyra's care with my regular vet and they flat refused without full payment! Now I fully understand under normal circumstances this policy but when an animals life is at risk and every hour counts towards their ability to live it is criminal in my book and completely unethical. It made me glad my card had not worked the day before because people like this don't deserve to be paid one dime! I managed to speak with my regular vet's assistant and because it was a Friday and the vet would be unavailable over the weekend we prepared ourselves to pray Krya through the terrifying next 72 critical hours. It is Sunday as I write this review and the good Lord in heaven has Kyra still hanging in there and we are praying strong she makes it to Monday when I can talk to my regular vet again and figure out the next steps for her continued improvement. We have hardly slept a wink and have been praying constantly for her full healing. Montrose Vet and their staff are heartless and I would never recommend them to anyone in need of emergency care - or even normal care - for any of their animals. People need to know how this clinic's policies will put profit before an animals life when push comes to shove and may do things to your animal without your permission or consent to get a bigger paycheck. During these hard times people need to help each other out especially when their is a life threatening emergency. If God forbid you find yourself in such a threat then don't count on Montrose Vet to help! read more

This office is great for simple procedures such as shots and neuter/spay, but I would not rely on them for more serious health issues. Several years ago, my GSD became very sick. The young vet claimed she had cancer and she would need a bone test in a hospital an hour away. Through the suggestions of experienced rescue personnel, I suggested to the vet that we try other options first, she refused and told me she would not help me and that I needed to take my dog for a bone marrow test or go somewhere else. I went somewhere else, and received the quality of experience and care I expect from a vet only to find out my girl did NOT have cancer, but rather an infection of the gall bladder. Unfortunately, we lost days to this Montrose vet's incompetence, and lost our girl. After reviewing medical records for both vets, I realized there was a dramatic difference between the two. The young vet in this office included a few paragraphs for diagnosis with little to back it up, and included an attack on me. I brought my very old sick kitty to the clinic this week. After a careful examination, the Veterinarian was so kind and sensitive to me as he told me what my options were for my little companion. I knew what was the most loving thing to do. The doctor carefully explained how this would happen, and expressed his sincere understanding for how difficult this was for me, yet how painless and peaceful this would be for my dear pet. It was just that, peaceful. I am so grateful to him and the staff for their compassion. I even got a card from them in the mail today expressing their comforting thoughts. Montrose Veterinary Clinic lost me as a costumer last night. My dog got into it with a porcupine late last night. When I called their emergency services their response was to wait until morning or to arrive with $500.00 in hand or not to bother showing up. She told me to call back when I was able to round up the money and hung up on me. I called Morningstar Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Hooley didn't mention money. She said to come in immediately and was extremely pleasant, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The bill was half of what Montrose Vet Clinic wanted and Xane is back to normal read more

I have used Montrose Veterinary Clinic for the four years that I have lived here. This past winter, my older dog seemed very lethargic. The clinic took me in as a walk-in on a Saturday and discovered with just a physical exam that she had cancer. Bone marrow testing confirmed. She passed away peacefully six weeks later, but I so appreciated the care and emotional support that this office gave to me the entire way (I called back a lot). Now, it's just me and my border collie. She gets excellent and affordable care here. I'll never use anyone else in this area for animal care! read more

After hearing the prices for the procedure my dog needed in Gunnison I decided to drive to Montrose where I paid 1/4 of the cost and was treated very respectfully by the doctor. The staff was polite and the procedure went perfectly. This is my vet of choice now. read more

I have been taking my animals here for 12 plus years. Several of the doctors left that I liked, today 5/27/17 I went in and received horrible service. First of all the lady who greeted us was RUDE couldn't even fake a smile and clearly wasn't listening as I had to repeat myself because she wouldn't look at me when she spoke. She takes us to a dirty room with a feces covered thermometer on the table. The the Vet comes in and insists on taking my dog to the back to look in his ear, wouldn't let me do it even though I used to work here as a tech. I hear him thrashing around in the back for 15 min and they bring him back in a panick extremely stressed out. When we then checked out I asked 3 times to see the price of a medication and instead she didn't listen and just told me my total was 119$. I said excuse me I just wanted to know the price please, she then told me the price and o said I didn't want the medication, so then she charged me for an office visit (50$) when it was a re-check because I was in a week and a half ago it was supposed to be 37$, I proceeded to have to stand there as she refunded my card. Overall this place is full of people who don't listen and are extremely rude and unsanitary. I was VERY displeased and will not be returning ever again. read more
