I'm mad at myself for taking so long to come back here. This used to be my go to spot for oils, jewelry, and old school DVDs, but they offer so much more. They have expanded and have an even bigger selection of books, even more jewelry, crystals, and now a home section. They offer a space for local artists and craftspeople to showcase their talents. This business is the epitome of showing up for your community. My friend and I bought some of everything today. Sage, crystals, records, and jewelry. Impressed by store from the moment I entered until exiting. First visit was at closing time and the owner greeted me and advised that I did not need to rush. Since I had worked in retail previously, I appreciated his courtesy manner but also knew that when it's closing time I was ready to leave as an employee. I purchased incense and promised to return the next week while volunteering in area. My return visit was more than I could have imagined. In addition to the vinyl records of all genres, there was recording equipment, books and music themed apparel in the main room. Cool vinyl shop in Little 5 Points that's definitely worth checking out of you're in the area, or even if you're not in the area but are looking for some new records. It's organized, loaded with inventory and has a super laid back vibe. In addition to the records, they've got a nicely curated selection of other goods that are worth checking out. I'm guessing they have great feedback because they are black-owned. It's a great atmosphere but everything is overpriced. Simply pick up any record or cd and you will find it on Discogs or eBay for significantly cheaper. The people that shop here are music noobs and don't know this so they get taken advantage of. I recommend waxnfacts and criminal right across the street. You will get MORE for your money. Example, I walked out when I saw them selling a Brass Construction record I always see for $1-$5 , selling for $15 in their shop. Avoid. Dont let them steal your money. read more

It just makes me happier when we are doing well for ourselves and being a positive business entity. So after my 1st time at Moods, it looks like a one stop music shop. You got vinyls, CDs, Funko pops, scented oils, shirts, and a whole lot in between. If you wanted to start off your vinyl journey, they have all the equipment that you would need to get that going. I typically never leave reviews; however, I am so annoyed by my recent experience here. I walked into the store mid-day on a Thursday looking to spend some money & really just enjoy the vibe inside the store. While taking my time and browsing through the merchandise, I was also taking pictures/admiring the aesthetics of different book stacks and new titles to add my collection. I had every intention of purchasing a couple of books, some candles, and a shirt. However, your employee (an older Black male w/ a hat on) started following me around the store to tell me that I could not "just come in the store and film ." When I attempted to tell him that I was not only "just taking pictures but that I was also going to purchase," he cut me off mid-sentence multiple times. Then, proceeded to chastise me with other customers nearby. I eventually gave up trying to reason with him and decided to not spend my money at your store today. As a Black woman, your store is a place of refuge and solace, on top of, a store with very nice merchandise. However, I did not enjoy being disrupted and talked over by your employee. Only to get onto Yelp! To see that so many other customers have also taken pictures inside your store, yet, your employee is saying it's your "store policy" not to. I will not be back although I love the store. your employee needs to do better. He needed to "be right" instead of actually LISTENING and I did not appreciate being heckled by a Black man in a place I'm choosing to patronize. *update* - I just found out the "employee" I'm talking about is the owner! I try my hardest to support black owned businesses, but it's almost impossible! Today was the 2nd time I went specifically to this shop for my sage and incense. It was about 12pm I walk in and the owner (short, frail, scary, sickly looking human) tells me with attitude "We are not open yet"! I shook my head up and down and said "Say less"! I proceeded to walk out and immediately went to the CRYSTAL BLUE across the street where I was welcomed... However, as I was leaving the owner of mood asked me why do you have an attitude. I said nothing to him. He said was not open I said say less and I left! That simple! He doesn't want to except my money and play little games! I love this store! Great music playing and great customer service! Moods Music is located in Little Five Points. Metered parking is available on the street; parking lot ($7 on weekends) or you can find free parking in the area but pay attention to the signs so you won't get towed. Little Five Points is a great spot to shop and dine. Moods music has quality t-shirts and racerbacks on one side with music, teas, soaps, oils and vegan desserts and more on the other side. They are also available for private parties! They also have a comfortable seating area for your convenience. Purchases - after sampling several flavors, I purchased a loose tea blend for $10 which came with a honey pack. I also purchased a t-shirt for $25 and I sampled the vegan desserts and purchased a mini sweet potato pie, small peach cobbler and a pint of cookies & cream and pralines & cream from First Batch Artisian Foods (IG - @plantbasedprincess). I had the absolute worst experience at Moods Music Yesterday. I typically do not leave negative reviews but I was so disgusted by my experience. Yesterday I was with my husband and newborn in Moods. We walk in and start to look around. When walking through the store there was a sweatshirt placed neatly on the couch. The store sells clothes so I assumed that it was merchandise the store sells. Upon picking it up and showing my husband a gentleman walks past me who I now know is the owner of the store and says " that I should know better than to touch things that don't belong to me" I quickly apologized and told him that I thought it was for sale. He continued to yell at me and my husband as I tried to explain I thought it was for Sale. as my husband and I are leaving the store he continued to be rude and make comments. As an owner of a store that is not how you should treat your customers. This was a clear misunderstanding and I was apologetic but he was determined to create a problem. Really, really in love with Moods Music. The vibe, the music playing overhead, the really nice owner Darryl, the selection & the coffee/tea bar in the back. I really liked the ATL section, where all the local dis promo CDs are featured, even more so, since I can call some of them, friends! Darryl has done a fantastic job "setting the mood", because this is a shop you want to hang out in! He even has couches set up! This review is a spin off from the Vortex because obviously d*ckface, I was in the area: I love the comfortability in this place when it comes to soul music, jazz, hip hop, and the variety of classic black movies in its library. This is a place you should come to after having some drinks in your system (probably from the mexican spot across the street), come here and just vibe to some tunes. He had the dopest hand crafted earrings, fragrant oils and incense (of which I bought a lion's share). My DJ friend quickly found several 45s as he immersed himself in the music collection. To say I love music is an understatement. I'm passionate about it. I love the way an artist can articulate their thoughts, opinions, beliefs, emotions, and flex their creative muscles through music. After reading several Yelpers reviews about Moods Music, I had to give this place a visit. Nestled in a modest size store in Little Five Points, you could easily walk pass this story without noticing. However, once you enter, there's a different vibe. Great music plays in the background and my eyes were automatically drawn to all the CD's and posters. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. While they do carry a few mainstream artists, they specialize in people below the radar. They have a great Hip-Hop selection, Soulful R&B, Acid Jazz, and Eclectic music. For those of you that aren't sure what or who to purchase, they have a mix CD's, (basically an album in which the DJ plays music from a variety of artists). I suggest you take that route if you don't want to purchase a CD of one particular new artist. In addition to music, they also sell Coffee, tea, and juice, shirts, incense, and oils. There's chairs for you to sit and read magazines or just mellow out and listen to music. If you're not knowledgeable, you can end up purchasing albums that are free on the Internet. By free, I don't mean piracy, I mean the artists actually allows you to download them for free. Since I have a fatal attraction to music, I found myself making recommendations to other consumers in the store. I believe a few even though I worked there after awhile, lol. This is one of my favorite spots in Little 5 Points. This little place always gives me the right vibe and is filled with black gold's finest in musical offerings. I'm a very tactile person so I don't like buying my music online. I enjoy CD cases, album art and liner notes and go here for funk, soul, jazz, nu jazz fusion, conscious rap and retro gangsta rap. They have a great selection and some hard to find gems. I've purchased 8Ball and MJG, debut albums from Nas (illmatic) and NWA, Bootsy Collins, Blaxploitation film soundtracks (yes!!), and new releases within the above listed genres. I always see "something else" I want while I'm pursuing! I saw Stephanie Mills and Whitney Houston's debut albums while shopping and had to have them. Specifically, I called around to Criminal Records once (another spot down the street) and emailed them as well concerning a particular CD I was looking for (David Banner's much anticipated God Box). They didn't have it, but I called over to Mood and they had it and told me their hours of operation so I could get my hips down there to purchase it. The vibe is great and so are the people and conversations. This place IS my favorite music shop and it will continue to be one of the great gems of L5P. read more

I think "moods" is the perfect name for this spot, because honestly the vibe up in here is like if you walked on the set of a Common video. They have a really good collection of music, the eclectic stuff that no-one in else in the world will carry...(that is if music stores even exist anymore beyond Best Buy, Target and Walmart). So if you're looking for vintage Dwele, Common or even that first Talib album, Moods is the spot to get it. They also carry a lot of independent artists, and will let you take a listen of any music that you want to hear. Service seems to be their key to sellilng music, and while they dont hound you to buy, they sure do make the choice easy as hell for you. The place even smells good...love the candles in here! I used to love this place. I still love the CONTENTS of this store, but the vibe i receive from the owner is no longer bearable. I am a masculine lesbian and my girlfriend is feminine. It's obvious we're together when we come. I've always had A standoffish vibe from the owner when I come but figured it was just his persona... Until he started openly talking with other customers after I've attempted to grab his opinion on certain CDs and he brushed me off. There was a lady who also worked there yesterday evening who would give me false intentions to help me, but in return would give me the most short answers possible. I was genuinely hurt because I have spent MONEY in this store. I have SUPPORTED this store and encouraged people to BUY from this store for years and I get treated as if "my kind" isn't welcomed. It's very disappointing and I feel foolish to have let this discrimination go on so long. This is such a great store, but the workers have honestly made me vow to never return. A DJ in the back spinning real hip-hop, patrons vibing to the music while incense floats through the air. Well, I'm not sure about whether there was incense in the place but the chill atmosphere made it feel that way. The store isn't huge like a commercialized FYE or a Tower Records (RIP.) but D-Nice and crew carry a wide range of music to fit your hip-hop, R&B, Neo Soul and Rare Grooves needs. I decided to buy a classic Tribe Called Quest album, "Midnight Marauders," while browsing through the collections. I already have a digital copy of this but I love TCQ. I LOVE this place! Any true music head that has their ear tuned to hip-hop, soul, jazz, funk, electro, real anything will instantly fall in love with this place. Moods is truly a gem if you are looking for a rare find that you can't find in your more commercial music spots. Once you walk in, you get the greatest vibe. Honestly, it's like I want this place to be in my house. The music selection is fabulous, and Darryl and the other employees are super helpful and knowledgeable. I was once undecided about a CD, and I got to listen to some of it while I perused the rest of the store's goodies. I think that day I ended up buying 5 body oils (which are the best) and 5 CDs. As far as I'm concerned, Moods is appropriately named, and it's one of the best as far as retail therapy goes. A friend was looking for Lenny Kravitz album, 5, and I just KNEW someplace in L5P would have it. We stumbled upon Moods, and the salesclerk casually flipped through ALL the other Lenny discs to pull out 5. He was so knowledgeable and cool, you wanted to hang out there all day. And you can! Moods feels like my ideal boyfriend's crib--dark wood interior with sleek couches and tons of incense, candles and graphic tees with some chill mix playing in the background(all for sale). You can select music to sit and try before you buy, or get enthused and share with the other heads in the spot. They had all the obscure, just-about-to-blow-up artists I read about as well as some of my faves from across the pond, like Omar. There's usually some artists hanging around and a wall of flyers to find out where all the upcoming shows are. I don't buy CDs, but after going to Moods, I'll have to change that! read more

This is my favorite space in L5P and one of my favorite stores in Atlanta. I've been patronizing Moods for some years now and it's time to show some love. Darryl has cultivated a musical haven here, especially for those who are into hip hop, soul and jazz in its rawest, purest form. The selection is excellent and I can spend hours just perusing through everything, listening to the music overhead and getting lost in the vibe of this place. They will allow you to listen to CDs before you purchase to avoid that music regret/letdown that used to come with buying a CD for a specific song only to realize the rest of the tracks were garbage. One thing I love is the large collection of mix CDs by local DJs. Oh, and the collection of vinyl they are now sporting. Dilla vinyl...be still, my heart. They have grown and evolved a bit over the years. Hosting a number of meet and greets with artists who have dropped new albums or are holding concerts in the area. Sometimes having listening sessions with artists as well. Always good energy and fantastic musical voyage. I was ecstatic to see that ?uestlove found them not too long ago and damn near bought out the place! I mean crates and crates of CDs. Awesome! Ah! Moods music has the best underground, hard to find, neo soul and hip hop. I sometimes stop by when I am in the mood for new sounds but, am not exactly sure what to purchase. Radio play is so monotonous and this is the place to find something fresh and new. The space is small but filled with so many talented artists. The guy who runs it is so knowledgeable and friendly. It's nestled in a space that is shared with other small business owners. The community feel is apparent. One of the draw backs is that parking is hard in Little Five Points. You're best bet is to park on the street. Another drawback is that it's a tight space inside. You may have to weave through other shoppers.
