Pretty solid selection of records to choose from for specific genres -- big rock and jazz selection. There is also a large selection of movies scores/soundtracks. The smallest selection includes hip hop / r&b.... Soul and country are roughly same size. For the opened older records they are priced inexpensively. For newer records they are a bit pricey. This is a used record store and while they do carry some re-releases, the selection will vary greatly. The service was amazingly helpful. Mothership of ATL record stores. I'm a fan of all that dot our beautiful city, but Wax n Facts is the most iconic. It's home base. That's partly down to their location, the most easily walkable of any, especially those of us taking MARTA or biking from intown. The owners / staff have seen it all and have great knowledge. The "recently added" box next to the door has sprouted multiple unicorns for me through 30+ years of my visits. Don't let the small size of the store fool you. The store is jam packed with a great selection of used vinyl. They have so much vinyl they are running out of space to put it. I did have a hard time reaching some of the records because some crates were in front of other crates. The staff was very friendly & helpful. OK - I didn't give them 5 stars because it was just a little too chaotic - but if I had the time I would probably live here, lol. If they don't have a copy of what you want - it's probably not in Georgia. I found a couple of sweet albums, but I didn't have time to dig through all of the stuff which was frustrating. Next time I'll have more time and be prepared. Prices appear to be great, most of the stuff is in good shape - but check them out carefully - they seem to interested in quantity - and one person's Good- album might be someone else's holy grail album - so I don't have an issue with that. The selection for Jazz records is outstanding. Not only that, but every record I looked at was not scratched and was CLEAN! Fantastic new and used vinyl LP selection across all genres. Very substantial used selection and prices for new LPs are very reasonable.

Fantastic selection of used records with some new records thrown in as well - volume wise the split is probably 70% used and 30% new. The strongest genres of the store are rock (but not metal), soul and jazz, and you'd be well-served to set aside at least two hours to hunt around and see what turns up. I found some good records in multiple genres (in my case, rock and soul) but I'd also say don't sleep on the hip-hop here. If you can bear to buy some CDs they are cheap and the hip-hop selections are excellent! I've been to hundreds of record stores and this is absolutely in my top 10 in the United States. Go, set aside some time, open your mind and you'll find many solid records in that beautiful $5-$10 range! read more

Living as I do around I-285/I-20 on the eastern perimeter, I have other vinyl-digging options closer by with easier parking; the L5P congestion being a general deterrent that's resulted in a 2-year gap between visits. A recent rainy Sunday afternoon seemed an auspicious occasion to revisit, and it did not disappoint. A cheery staff welcome greeted me (personal reminder: check out Athens taco stand) and helped reacquaint with the lay of the land. $1 options, 12"s, free records (no covers), abundant used rock, New Vinyl, and the expected genres. My budget is usually too limited for the Shiny New, so I was pleased to find ample fairly-priced used stock across all genres. Other than "Used Rock" - which commands its own section that snakes around - most other sections contain a mix of new/used inventory. You'll be rewarded for digging in the boxes/crates on the floor. I came away with an old-school hip-hop classic, a white-label promo of a fave soul compilation, two 80s new wave/dance hits, and an Icelandic jazz fusion band whose stuff I like but rarely come across. And the parking? Still a slight inconvenience, though a rainy Sunday helps temper. All in all, a perfect vinyl cave to take shelter & explore. read more

I was a DJ and really excited about my finds. The cashier refused to sell, and I asked for a manager. They both proceed to tell me that my signature "didn't match my ID signature". I liked this store. As an out-of-town visitor, I scoped it out prior to my visit. I had never been to Little Five Points area before. I visited on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was a little tough to find, but that's not a reflection on the store. Not a big deal; I walked a few blocks. I was hoping for a little more in the way of higher-end stuff. I am a vinyl buyer that doesn't mind paying a premium for nicer discs. But I picked up several cool items. They have a great selection and the place was packed with customers of all ages. I am into vintage rock (mainly 1960s & 70s). But they seemed to have something for everyone. My main - and really only - complaint: The price stickers that they use. The darned things are terribly sticky. They place them on the jacket rather than the poly covers. They're a real PIA to remove. I didn't buy anything really high-end (because they didn't have any). But if I had bought something of real collector quality, I would have been PO'd because it is easy to damage a jacket or, at the very least, leave sticky residue. They really should use another method. But the people (owners) were friendly and that's a nice bonus. read more

Being a vinyl collector & being out of town, I always look for local record shops to check out. I was with a DJ friend, who frequents this spot, so it was nice to have a "inside source" with me. LOTS & LOTS of records! It was actually a bit overwhelming & oddly enough I didn't see a lot of names I'm familiar with, while perusing the soul section. Prices are very reasonable & fair, especially since they're all used records. As others have mentioned, yes, practically every genre is covered. Genres are organized very well. Was disappointed in this place. Not a good stop if you're looking for alt/punk/metal stuff and its one the least organized record shops I've been to. A lot of used records, almost too many, for how it was organized-it was really difficult to find anything worth your time. A lot of stuff in the wrong place, the metal bin was full of pop and other miscellaneous but definitely not metal music. Staff was nice, good covid precautions, hoping I just caught them at a bad time. read more

I walk in here and realize that there are people in the world who realize how some types of music are, such as jazz and blues and old rock. On vinyl. Walking in here, as small and cramped as it is, its still got a great vibe, way better then Criminal Records. Not a fan. But I am a fan of this place. But heres the deal, and you should probably take a breath or 20 before searching, cause well nothing is super organized, and after a day of shoppers sifting through all the boxes things get moved around quite often. There isnt a high tech fancy computer that can tell you the exact location of each record, but no you must search. And let me tell you, I have found some treasures cause I had to search through out the entire store. Wax N facts is like any countless indie record stores strewn about the 1980s, where either artsy boys or misfit boys or obsessive boys or some combination of all three (and, yes, they were always boys) would gather and flip through boxes and boxes of dusty old vinyl to discover the latest and greatest musical sub-sub-sub genre (drum and bass-hip hop-world beat-ambient-zydeco? I'm THERE) in a game of musical one-upsmanship that ended only when one or the other was dead or deemed a sell-out. A veritable battle of douche bags if you will. And these same artsy, misfit, obsessive boys would take their finds to hone them into a finely crafted mix tape used to woo a heretofore apathetic female who, though she may not know of said boy's existence, does have glamorous hair and will definitely swoon over this obscure collection of Leonard Cohen b-sides. As I said, these stores were a dime a dozen back in the 80s. But seeing how it's 2008 and Wax N Facts is still managing to get away with, nope, THRIVE on this, I find that pretty dern impressive. This place is neat. Small, cramped, and when I came in, quiet. The music was turned on later, but it was still a nice change to the bustle and shouting of Criminal Records. There also weren't a ton of people... At first. That did change, and when they were all in there, it was pretty hard to walk around At any rate, this is the place you'll want to go for used records. They had a nice of mix, of, well, tons of genres. Pop, punk, folk, rock, jazz, soul, soundtracks. Even some new stuff, though there wasn't a lot of that. The prices were pretty reasonable as well, which is what matters to me. I'll get an ugly record sleeve if the record look like it's still in good condition. I don't need an immaculate cover with an expensive price tag to be happy. I just need a record that works. read more

Wax N Facts has the same style of employees (if not worse) than Criminal. But you have to look past that. They have the best vinyl collection in the city limits, a decent indie cd collection, and a cool freebie container at the counter, filled with cd's, stickers, flyers, etc. that can lead you to a good band. Freebies may vary. One day, long ago, I went there trying to find a copy of Mansun's "Stripper Vicar" and I did not find it and I was unhappy. Then, while making other purchases, I was sifting through the freebie box and actually found a copy of a promo cd for Mansun with "Stripper Vicar" on it! I was as pleased as punch! And that wasn't the only time I've found something cool in the freebie box, or otherwise! So, give this place a look whenever you are in town! read more

A great selection of used vinyl, a decent selection of new vinyl. Some used cassettes and CDs. If Criminal Records doesn't have it, Wax 'N' Facts does. I've only been to three record stores in my life, but this one is certainly my favorite. They have tons of old records for $5 or less--big names, too. About two-thirds of the floorspace is devoted to vinyl. You can find almost any genre of music, with the most crates allotted to Rock, Jazz, and Soul, respectively. They have some Country, Electronic, and Pop too. My favorite section is the Sound Effects one. They'll have old Environments LPs, sound effect compilations, and nature sounds. Last time I went, I found a Sebastian Speaks record for $4. It's a recording of a German Shepherd barking intended to scare away intruders. They also have a U.S. History section with patriotic music and presidential speeches. The new records are pretty inexpensive. This store prices competitively. I got a Belle and Sebastian LP for $17 once. I got 5 records (3 old LPs, 2 new 45s) for $17 yesterday. To think I once considered buying a $28 record at Urban Outfitters... Check the floor near the Rock area for $1 LPs. You can get new and old 45s for around $5 too. They're by the door, next to the cassettes. The staff is pretty nice. They really seem to know their stuff. My only gripe with this store is that they don't take Amex, but are you surprised? read more

I figured I'd toss in a review of my own to dispute some of the claims by other reviewers that the staff is aloof or elitist. Sure, the staff can be a little quiet, but I've never gotten the vibe that they were anything but welcoming. I'm usually shopping for pretty mainstream albums, and the guys behind the counter have been more than happy to give their recommendations or observations. On a couple occasions I've gotten unexpected stories about famous musicians stopping at an Atlanta house party, or about the time one of the guys offered a ride to a down-on-his-luck former Atlanta pro athlete. The customer service isn't going to be as slick as you would get at Target. It's an independent record store. But for those of you Yelpers ready to steer potential customers away with comparisons to scenes in High Fidelity, consider what a record store clerk is up against: Each customer's music taste is so unique and individually tailored, that it must be exhausting after the dozenth time each day you've tried to find common ground with the person coming to the register. Overall, this place has a solid selection and cheaper prices on used vinyl than, say, Fantasyland Records. I've found a lot of specific titles I've been looking for at reasonable prices. Their new arrivals bin is also a must-see, because I think that sought-after records move pretty quickly once they're alphabetized. read more

Back when I was a fresh faced post high school transplant to Atlanta, Wax N Facts was the place where I figured out just how magical vinyl is. We're talking picking up classics by the arm loads - sure Criminal Records is alright, but at the time I lived in town, they were so cramped and had such a small selection of used vinyl, it just wasn't worth it for me to go. When I visited Atlanta a few months ago, I didn't really find anything and maybe I'm just jaded, but some of the luster had worn off. I'll forever be grateful to Wax N Facts for helping to nurture what has by this point become an obsession (as is a rite of passage for any subcultural male passing his mid 20's) and will always be sure to stop by when I'm in Little Five. Wax n Facts, as the name suggests, is good mostly for its vinyl, though even that they don't have tons of. They have a decent yet small mix of new popular indie CDs and a section of used that is better, on average, than most other used shops, being in such a trendy area. They have a better influx of new vinyl than most of the other local record shops, so if you're looking for good new releases, this is probably your best bet. The used stuff is a bit more hit or miss. The staff here has pretty much never been anything but blank faced and snotty to me. They act as if they know everything you couldn't dream of reading online, though I've never seen any of them demonstrate particularly pointed knowledge. They just kind of stand around behind the counter and look smarmy, and roll their eyes or grunt when you tell them what not-cool-enough CD you need from behind the counter. Also, on the way in and out, you will be petitioned for your change by the hippie street musicians and stragglers, most of whom have stories about how their wife is waiting for them down the street so they can buy her medicine with your $.37. Ah, Little Five. Also, on the weekends, the Little Five shopping center will try to charge you for parking, though if you go behind the strip, there is a road and a small lot where its absolutely free. read more

This is the go to used record store in the Atlanta area, little 5 points to be exact. There's plenty of competition in a 5 mile radius, but these guys are all about the selection. After reading some of the reviews on here about rude service or not a friendly staff- that's part of the charm of little 5. If you want a friendly conversation call your mom. The selection for all genres is better than average- maybe that's why they've been there forever and have a loyal following. They are also on point with their used pricing- better than average. If you only want new- try out criminal records down the block- but for used this is your place. I'll keep going back, and if you've never been- you need to give yourself at least an hour to be here. read more

Decent store with a good selection. This is one of the good spots. The only ATL store with a punk section, as small as it may be so you can get new pressings of the classic punk albums. Or if you're looking for new pressings of classic rock albums, they got those too. I generally shop their used section which is pretty decent for classic rock. My only gripe is that they dont put the records out with sleeves. It's like a 10 cent additional cost for them. If it's a big deal, just add the 10 cents to the price of the record. I'd also like it if they cleaned the records before they put them out. Just a nice touch. It sucks when you get home and have to clean 10 records you just bought to listen to them. Nothing is worse on your needle and record than dirt. Overall a good store and decent staff. I'd recommend them. I dont really bother going into criminal records down the street unless Im looking for new stuff. read more

Edit 6/2/16 My prediction of the demise of retail music in brick and mortar stores was incorrect. Vinyl sales have really picked up since my original review in 2008. I am very happy to have been wrong. Unfortunately, according to reviews far more recent than mine, snobby staff here remains an issue. One customer complained of being made fun of and gave a one-star review. (Who could blame him? See review of 1/22/16 above.) If you have money to spend and a genuine interest, whether it's vinyl flavor of the day, collectible Record Store Day limited edition, or Andre Kostelanetz, you should feel welcome. I took a (don't you dare laugh) Hannah Montana poster out of here once back in the day, and was mocked by the clerk who rang it up. Obviously it was for my daughter. I have a thicker skin than most people and even at my age could have kicked the guy's ass (he knew it and I knew it) so, wisely, the mocking was subtle. No one should ever be made to feel unwelcome. That's foolish. I have to add, though, that the employees should try to greet everyone in the store. Often I have been offered help and didn't need it, and I also know it can become overwhelmingly busy. But almost as often, it was clear that one or more employees noticed me and continued BS'ing between themselves. (What can be more important in retail than someone in the store with money in his pocket, looking for an excuse to spend it?) There has been, over the years, a lot of grab-@ss behind the counter, and less senior employees should of their own initiative be free to leave their comfort zone behind the counter and circulate more. I'm sure they do sometimes, but there should be more of it. On the way back to the car with my Hannah Montana find (it was manufactured on foam board for all to see), though, passersby looked at the poster and then looked at me as if I was "Perv McPornstache." *** I get to Wax n Facts as often as possible and have been coming in since the mid-90's. They have a great selection of used CD's, and a lot of great well-known classic stuff for $5.00 and under. Because downloading has become predominant, average used CD price seems to have slipped to under $8.00/disk. I am picky as I have a large CD collection, so I no longer buy in volume. Whenever I ask for anything, though, I receive direct, prompt answers. Buying music in brick and mortar stores will soon, sadly, be a thing of the past. Young people aged 10-25 don't buy music in stores in great numbers anymore, contrary to my experience as a record store clerk in the 1980's. (On the last Saturday before Christmas and on Christmas Eve, for example, we were so jammed we could barely get around the store.) But young customers still download and listen to a huge quantity of music. Ignoring the writing on the wall, hipster 30s-ish employee staff act indifferent and barely return their customers' "hello" when they come in. The owners, who certainly do read the writing on the wall, have been much friendlier when ringing me up. read more
