One of our favourite cafe around the city. Their lattes are really smooth and leaves no bitter aftertaste. We also like to come and buy their beans, as the beans are good quality and when we make the expresso, it comes out nicely. It's a cozy place, it has a seating area both inside and outside. A local coffee shop in Kensington Market area that is super busy! Came here for an afternoon coffee pick me up and got sold on the cold brew that the many working behind the counter recommended. It was a good recommendation, gave e the caffeine hit I needed and was quite delicious. Especially quenched my thirst during the hot summer day I was spending outdoors walking the area. Wait time wasn't too long/ bad and the inside has seating that was packed. They also have a patio out front with lots of seating, but not many people were sitting outside, probably because it was so hot that day. The washroom situation was the most uncomfortable thing for me though, the stall is tiny and I barely fit in there. So skip on using their washrooms if you can, and just get their coffee. By the time I was leaving there was a line out the door waiting to get their afternoon coffee fixes too. A great local spot to check out! read more

Not your average coffee shop! This place was amazingly different. Different food, so much coffee, and all different types of machines. Still a nice casual place like your neighborhood shop would be. Service was good, and they make each drink from scratch. I waited a solid 7 minutes for my masala chai latte, it wasn't a pre mix. They brewed it in front of me. The food looked so good honestly wanted to buy it all. My friend got a iced latte and gave it a good thumbs up. This place was part of our food tour, so we also got to try their light roast regular coffee, with a spinach and feta Boreka. Boreka, light flaky pastry, stuffed with delicious spinach and feta, light but probably not! They had sweet versions too. They had many amazing sounding sweet treats. I wish I could have eaten more. The coconut chocolate bread pudding, just sounded wow and looked it too. Nice patio out back, seating inside and out front, this was such a sweet little place. There was a decent amount of seating available, and it almost felt like I was sitting in a house and not a cafe. The service was friendly as well. Lots of tables in the front of the store and tables inside in the back for when it rains or it is cold. I really enjoyed their Thundercloud iced espresso. It's a summer afternoon, in Toronto, and I saw dark rain clouds coming. I ducked into Moonbean coffee looked at the menu and voila! I saw a drink called Thundercloud on the menu and had to have it. It is basically an iced espresso Americano made with tonic water, lemon, and a little bit of cinnamon. No milk. A couple months ago I started seeing similar drinks on the menu and I was afraid of them thought they would be gross. I had a blood orange one in another coffee shop and now I'm addicted to these types of drinks.. They also have interesting flavors of coffee beans to take home. read more

I checked this place out around 8am on a Tuesday and found lots of seating. I got a cold brew and a wheat bagel with cream cheese and egg. A very good and freshly baked bagel. I somewhat sadly discovered that starting around 8:30-9am is when they pull out many more freshly baked goods- so forewarning not to come too early on a weekday if you are looking for more than just a bagel, as their other food items looked very good! read more

My absolutely favourite coffee place in the city! They offer a delicious iced caramel coffee which is more on the sweeter side! The ice cubes here are made of high quality coffee so it mitigates the issue of having a very watery iced coffee! Highly recommend. They also have a cute porch and backyard patio seating area which is nice for the summer months. Lots of seating inside as well - lots of students come here to study / hang out. read more

I swear this was probably the best iced caffè latte I tasted in North America. I don't know what else to say about it. The employees are also super nice :) What's so unique about here is that at least for the iced latte, they use iced coffee cubes instead of regular ice, so when they melt, the coffee doesn't get diluted. If they are utilising leftover brewed coffee at the end of the day, they are being very clever about it. I went back and bought some beans too. Very excited to make my own brew! read more

Stumbled across this location while walking around Kensington Market and we all got drinks. I can't remember all the drinks we got, and I know paper straws are the thing.... but after about 1/2 the drink, I was drinking more paper than my drink and had to ultimately toss it. No dig at the location, but I might have made a different drink choice if I had known about the straws. A lot of variety, nice little inside. I'd recommend stopping there to get a drink! read more

This spot has a great variety of teas and coffees! I enjoyed a cup of the strawberry oolong green tea & spent the morning getting some work done . I must say the green tea was smooth & mildly flavoured which made it easy to drink even if you don't add any sweeteners. The space is nice and quiet . It's clean ENOUGH but I did notice a buildup of crumbs and DUST on the walls which was off-putting however the bathrooms were clean . On another positive note, I noticed the staff baking all the pastries fresh in the morning. It's good to know that the snacks aren't stale or store-bought . . I'll definitely be back for the strawberry green tea and possibly to try an espresso. The shelves and walls do need a good wiping though. Other than that, great stuff ! read more

I remember coming here for the first time a few years ago because the person whom I was meeting suggested this place. When I walked in on that rainy day I can still recall the feeling of happiness at how warm and cozy it was and the wonderful smell as I went up to the counter to order. And even now, none of that's changed. There's just something so comforting about this place that makes it unique among the numerous more modern coffee chains. A really chill, relaxed vibe with friendly staff that makes it perfect for just getting away and hanging out (with friends or by yourself) for a while. After FOUR years, I finally got to come into the cafe since the time my hubby picked up an iced Matcha Tea Latte for me! I gushed about how GOOD it was. Today, I'm trying the Golden Milk(turmeric, ginger and cinnamon) but with almond milk (I'm dairy free but they have a whole slew of milk alternatives). The delightful Japanese girls asked me if I like honey to sweeten to which I said only a little. She made it perfectly the way I like it! Needless to say...am I ever glad I chose this as it gives you a nice slight kick to the back of the throat (especially good for getting rid of the little tickle from a residual cold). Surprisingly, on the first sip, what I thought was a lump of turmeric not blended in was teeny bits of real ginger!!! Did I say how much I hate those bubble tea shops that resort to fake, chemical powders they call "tea"? Wow!!! Love the artisanal quality of the teas---no artificial powders here!!! I was a bit hesitant to try the only gluten free option left (it was late in the day~6:30pm). The usual GF fare are really dry and tasteless. It was a pleasant surprise to find the Breakfast cookie nice and moist with bits of banana inside...maybe even some applesauce to make it moist(not sure). In any case, it wasn't sickly sweet the way most commercial cookies are made! The girls were pleasant and smiling...the music happened to be my favorite jazz renditions like "Girl from Ipanema"...aged wood tables and mismatched chairs, benches and retro copper light fixtures...all made for a lovely, non-hurried atmosphere. It makes me want to book future catch up sessions with girlfriends in the future! Can't wait to come back to try the other tea lattes...but you can be sure it'll be a lot sooner than FOUR years!!!! read more

I'm vegan from California and came in this morning to grab a quick breakfast on my way to catch an early morning train. I got a large hot chocolate with almond milk and one vegan chocolate banana loaf for a total of $8.31. I found the sugar to be less in this hot chocolate. I had hot chocolate a few days ago here in Toronto and was surprised at the sugar level and once again today. Maybe Canadians just don't have a lot of sugar in their hot chocolate, which honestly isn't shocking because us Americans put too much sugar in everything. The banana chocolate loaf was okay. I was satisfied and this met the mark for my propose of grabbing something vegan and quick to go. If I didn't have the need, I would probably try somewhere else for better taste. From the aged wooden furniture, unsteady tables that have one short leg, and most prominently, a neighbourhood clientele familiar with each other, the staff, and what they might be able to find at Moon Bean, I think this place epitomizes what cafes are supposed to be all about: providing a honest-to-goodness gathering place for the community. It's a peaceful place to spend a morning drinking one of their great plant-based smoothies, freshly blended, while people watching all the people and dogs of Kensington Market go by. We have relatives visiting from Melbourne and if you know a bit ab9ut their coffee scene...Melburnians are coffee snobs and Starbucks failed miserably there. Having said that, our relatives needed their coffee fix so we had a big order to fill...as usual, we turned to Yelp and it did not disappoint! Three lattes, two cappuccinos and an Americano later, they were thoroughly impressed. The latte was perfection. The service was pleasant and they delivered each drink as they were prepared. And quirky space with both back and front patios and lots of interior space too. Good for work and also conversations or lazily reading a book. DELICIOUS beverages and everything made from scratch in house including coffee bean roasting. Probably the best cold brewed coffee I've ever had - I was about to reach for cream and syrup but took a sip and thought "nope don't need them this is delicious!" My Kensington coffee options have expanded! Passed this place a million times and have done take out once, but finally came and stayed a while. A little birdie told me that they filmed a movie here and I can totally see why. The feeling is a place of community, lived in, in the best way. I stopped in here for quick coffee and laptop session with a friend. In the back, there's quite a quiet room. While in the front, you'll feel all the hustle and bustle of the shop. We got a lot of work in, but if you're having a meeting in that back room and there are a few working/reading people around, you should probably assume that everyone is listening in on your conversation without trying. It's that cozy! No complaints about the americano I had, which came in a midnight blue mug. This place had its charm when I was in uni, but now...the words "grungy", "dumpy", and "in desperate need of renovations" comes to mind. Btw, according to the signs, they are in the middle of doing some renos, but I'll believe it when it's actually done. Everything looks almost the same - if not worse - than almost two decades ago! Men's restroom was "OUT OF ORDER". So women's restroom was unisex with 1 stall that looked as though it had not been flushed in at least a week! Very, very disgusting. Prices aren't all that much cheaper, so I honestly don't think they can get away with these "rustic" elements for much longer. Courtyard looks as though it's being used as a storage facility, a.k.a. yard of a hoarder. No WiFi / at least not with a simple click of your phone. As per other reviewers, there's an issue with their connection or at least the owner providing the code. London Fog & cake was OK. No complaints there, but 2 items was almost $10. So my only issue lies in the outdatedness, unkempt appearance and feel of the whole café. read more

I've been wanting to go here for awhile but finally, I made it! It's a cute and comfortable indie place. It hasn't got an ounce of pretentiousness or that slick - or slickster modern look and no substance. The coffee was good but didn't blow me me away like others have but what did was watching them roast the coffee beans. The smell from that was heavenly. I wanted a cup of whatever they were roasting so bad!!!. All I can say is I wish the smell of that roasted equalled the flavour of the current brew I had in my hand. It's directly above the counter and it's HUGE with everything written with chalk. Took me a good 2 minutes to decide with my head tilted back and mouth open lookin' up. (Rest assured, I did not look foolish by myself as there were 3 others doing so). But yeah, it was a rainy day yesterday and this place was packed! They have many baked treats and what not, but I did not get to take pictures of this place because I was in a rush. Onto the drink. I really really REALLY wanted to like this. It has potential. The taste of my jasmine latte was just aromatic and lovely. I personally LOVE jasmine tea... maybe 'cause I'm asian... I don't know. But, damn, did the barista put WAY too much powder in it! Within my first sip, I already had that powder break down in my mouth. But as I drank more, it diluted better. Then it came back in the end. I had to let my drink sit so all the chunky powder would rest and slowly drink the rest of it. Sigh.
