We returned to Chronos Escape Room for our third visit, this time bringing a few friends along to…read moretry their Awakened 2.0 room. This is an amazing room and definitely in my top three out of the 50+ rooms we have done. It is a large overall space and has a total of seven different sub-rooms. It is dimly lit and you really feel like you are in an old abandoned high school. There are several jump scares, but I wouldn't say it is scary, just creepy. There is a mix of linear and non-linear puzzles, and a lot of back and forth between rooms. There is a good variety of locks, mechanical puzzles, and pattern/problem solving. There are quite a few puzzles, and the room kept all four of us very busy. There are a few spots where crawling is required, and the floor is pretty hard and not cushioned or carpeted. This room was definitely one of the hardest we have done, but it was so fun the whole time. We escaped with only one minute left. This is one of their three hardest rooms and is ranked 8/10 difficulty which I would agree with. Melissa was our game master and she was very helpful over the walkie talkie when we requested a hint. They have a total of ten different rooms now, and this was our third completed. We will definitely be back to try more.

One of the highlights was the small circus-style show featuring bikes and motorcycles, which was entertaining and added a unique touch. The acrobat portion was fairly short and ended up being my least favorite part of the event. The lighting and visual effects were absolutely amazing. There seemed to be a blend of Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz themes throughout the experience. While the visuals were beautiful, I think it would have been even better if they had fully committed to one theme rather than mixing elements together. My favorite part was exploring the many small rooms scattered throughout the venue. Each room was decorated differently, and it was a lot of fun discovering all the creative details and designs. I do hope that future versions stay more consistent with the chosen theme instead of sprinkling in random figurines that don't quite fit. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience, and I'd happily return next year to see what they create next.

They offer some great deals for local residents as well as on weeknights. We stopped by here the other night after my birthday dinner. It was a little chilly and windy, but there were so many cool things to see and do here. Talk about a plethora of options for photo ops and selfies! The Wizard of Oz theme is cool. There's a couple rooms that don't seem to follow the theme, which helps mix it up a bit. There's also a "circus" which looks like a lot of BMX and dirt bikes. We heard it and saw some of the performance, but it's a very small area of the attraction, so we were more interested in everything else. We ended up staying here almost two hours and they were getting ready to close. This is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something fun and different to do in the area.

Drinks are at those 'surge prices' however, I clumsily tripped on the stairs and spilled my full $16 beer and staff was kind enough to refill my cup free of charge. The merch line spatially can be organized à bit better. It's a weird line that wraps around from the balcony to the ground stage. It's ripe for line skippers, but it's mostly unintentional because people are truly unaware where the line starts. Thankfully , there are staff that aggressively police the line to ensure total fairness .

Really cheap parking nearby, but you have to download an app, so make sure you have good connection. Lots of extra steps but it was only $2, so not bad! Despite circling around, it was not as easy to get parking like the other down town city concert venues that we've gone to, but no biggie. It was literally right across the street from the venue. We went to go and see the Japanese visual kei band, Jiluka, and people were lined up almost 10 hours before the concert started (vibes for SoCal way different than that of NorCal), so arriving 2 hours before the concert started, unless I shoved myself and moshed to the front, I knew it was cooked, but I got a really good spot on the second floor balcony and the staff was nice enough to point out where to stand to get a great view. Restrooms and the merchandise tables were all on the second floor. The back of the first floor was a bar and in the entrance to the side was also a bar too, I think. Security is way tighter here than all of the other 3 venues I went to to go see concerts during the week, so I'm sure shenanigans have occurred. No canned drinks in certain areas, no chains (definitely warranted this warning since lots of people dressed alt for this show and had to go return things to their cars, etc.), and no re-entry after the concert was over, so we couldn't get the Chiikawa Jiluka freebie that someone was passing out. Boo! The concert stage is bizarrely in the corner, but the sound quality was nice enough. I was definitely able to hear the vocalist better at this venue than I was at the NorCal stop, but the lighting was definitely better at the last event. Even though I didn't risk it in the pit this time, I walked out when people were still there and if I was there during the concert, even with my elevated shoes, it would be much more difficult to view the stage than at the other venues that I've been to. It definitely got super crowded and unlike the other venues, there's also a gap between the crowds and the stage, so security was definitely making sure people weren't crowd surfing onto the stage, but it also meant that when the artist threw something in the crowd, some of them had to jump down, grab it, and try again. My biggest qualm was how HOT it was. Even from the second floor balcony, near a fan, and with it not being super crowded up there, I was sweating. I can't imagine what it's like for the people in the pit. Overall, not awful, but there's better venues out there in SoCal.

The Haven is a 125 capacity space with brick walls and wood laminate floors. It's a pretty cool picture when you walk in. The Haven used to host all sorts of music but in recent times they've dialed back on hosting hardcore punk shows because people can't control themselves. But if you're interested in all sorts of alternative bands there's still something here for you. Absolutely no alcohol on premises but you can get water. Security is pretty cool and aren't afraid to kick folks out for acting a fool. Parking is anywhere you'd park if you were going to the Fox or Glass House. The Haven is an awesome venue and I hope they start to host hardcore punk shows more often but I don't blame for putting down a pause. Not only is second Street art walk about visual art, it is also about performance art! There were…read moreat least four live musical bands last night as well as a DJ at Shaun Diamond Plaza for your auditory enjoyment. If you have tried to come to the art walk and not seen much art, you need to explore a little bit harder. Several of the galleries are actually underground and you have to enter buildings to gain access. Ask any shop owner about where the galleries are, and they are happily to direct you. If you're looking for family, friendly options, usually the area by Shaun Diamond Plaza is nice to hang around as you eat food from the vendors and food trucks that come out each month. There's also Cafe con Libros, a local bookstore with lots of children's books and friendly staff. The best time to come with family is the second Saturday closest to Dia de Los muertes (Nov 1) were you are likely to be able to see live Ballet Folklorico on the east side of Gary on 2nd Street. Kids can also come dressed up if it's before Halloween and often shop owners will be giving out candy. Sometime in the fall, I believe there is a chalk art contest, which is always fun to participate in or observe. The most festive time of year is of course second Saturday before Christmas. There is an ice rink in Shaun Diamond Plaza. it's also a wonderful time to support local entrepreneurs and artists who are selling everything from live plants to clothing to jewelry to other fun unique gifts for the holidays. My favorite time to come out to second Street art walk? Every Month that I'm free that evening!! Last night we brought our daughter who is home from college and her college friend. We had a great time! We even had a caricature artist across from Shaun diamond Plaza for people who want to have a unique piece of art to memorialize the event!!

I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout. There was a solid crowd for such a small area. The festival highlighted various cultural traditions, including lion dancing, traditional attire, and festive foods, which made the event feel lively and engaging. There were also several small vendors set up around the main event selling trinkets, artisan-made cups, handmade glassware, woodwork, and other unique items. Plenty of food vendors were present as well, though I'm not sure if that's typical for the regular art walk or specific to the holiday celebration. My group wasn't able to stay for the later evening portion of the event, but it's definitely something we'd consider checking out in the future.
