My friends and I have been attempting to find the best greasy spoon in Manchester. Obviously this activity is only permissible after a heavy night so in the interests of this we have had to schedule of few of those first, of course. We have experienced the good (Gemini Cafe), the bad (OK Cafe) and the ugly (Antonio's) but Moon is by far and away the best. Decoratively it ticks all the necessary boxes; flowery wipe-clean table covers, mismatched cutlery, squeezy ketchup and brown sauce bottles. To paraphrase Edith from Daniel Clowe's deadpan comic 'Ghost World' this is like the Taj Mahal of greasy spoon cafes.
Then there are the owners, a warm and chatty pair who are happy to help (there was absolutely no problem making substitutions - sausage instead of egg, toast instead of fried bread). The food is exactly as you would expect - greasy, salty and served with a side order of guilt. The full English was an amazing £3.80 including a cup of tea or coffee and was exactly the pick-me-up called for after a late one the night before.
