Big chains come and big chains go and often small businesses are swallowed in their wake. Despite this, Moon Rabbit Toys persists. It's so nice to walk into a real toy store like the ones we grew up with. The owner is so nice and knowledgeable. Whether you are looking for a board game, stuffed animal, educational game or a gift, they have a great selection. Have questions? The owner knows the answer - and she speaks to kids the way kids should be spoken to, never condescending, always with a smile and a laugh, and listens to what they want. If you're in Santa Fe, stop in. I can't tell firsthand how they are handling the pandemic as it's been a few years since I visited, but based on Yelp reviews, they seem to be enforcing safety protocols. Go and play! read more

I followed my two 50+ besties into the store, and this store is a MUST VISIT and a really unique shopping experience. It's filled with demo games and an owner who loves helping you find the perfect game for you and yours. She helped us find games that matched each of our tastes (not an easy task, believe me!). She even sat down with us to show how each game worked, and her energy was contagious! We left with a few new games and a lot of laughs. Amazing selection of toys for all ages. The majority appear to be made in the USA and there was a selection of wool animals in one of the front windows mde in Sri Lanka. Although the selection was top notch, the owner was the straw that broke the camel's back. You can see her genuine love of not only the store, but the enjoyment from the kids. My son was encouraged to try the testers on the musical instruments (which are wiped clean or can be re-cleaned upon request). She also had many of the boxed toys open so the kiddos could try it out. My only wish is for this store to be closer to SoCal! (And replicate the heart of the store!) My top faves: 1: Amazing selection on the wooden alphabet train. I have yet to find a dinosaur or plane previously! (And thanks for confirming they are Thomas compatible!) 2: The multi-colored Sri-Lankan wool animals which look hand made & wonderfully quirky. 3: All the eco-friendly / organic baby items. 4: The musical instruments & testers! A mini harmonica for $5! I could go on and on but simply put...definitely make this one of your stops if you're in the area. Moon Rabbit is a favorite shop for my kids. Unfortunately the pandemic limited our trips to the shop this year. Caving to the kids insistence we made a trip right before Christmas to get some gifts. The shop is handling the pandemic requirements so well! The staff wore masks (that covered both nose and mouth), stayed an appropriate distance from customers and limited the number of customers in the shop kindly and made sure to keep traffic flowing without being pushy or rude. We got a board game we had been planning to purchase (Wingspan) and one recommended to us (Root) and both have become family favorites! We were delighted to have at least one family tradition continue even in the pandemic. If you are in the area and need some pandemic friendly family fun this is the place for you! read more

She talked to the kids what kind of toys they were looking for and helped teach them how to yo-yo and Astro-jack. Most of the toys are available to play with and the kids loved finding new toys. This store was a true gem in Santa Fe. All toys are so unique and extraordinary. Apparently most of them are either made in USA or trustworthy factories. The owner, Shana, was extremely friendly and helpful. We visited from Orange County, CA and stopped here just to visit-turns out it was one of the most memorable places in Santa Fe. Came here while just wandering around the city. We are avid table top gamers and so naturally gravitate to their games section. They have a fairly wide selection and we found some new games we had never seen before! The woman working there was super cool and was more than happy to geek out with us and show us one of the games we were interested in. We ended up buying it and can't wait to play tonight! They also have a decent selection of puzzles, like Rubik's cubes and table top puzzles and some other toys. Overall it was a great experience. Highly recommended! read more

I wasn't a huge fan of the store in its previous location, but for some reason, since they moved to the other side of the shopping center, everything has improved. I came in recently to have a peek at some of the board games they have in stock, and I was greeted by a very friendly lady who was extremely knowledgeable about the products they carry. She introduced me to a couple of new games that looked fun and went through the trouble of teaching me and my wife how to play. All in all, I highly recommend this store for your local board gaming and toy needs. They have lifetime customers in us! read more

I was searching for another musical book for children that I had purchased almost a year ago while vacationing in Santa Fe, NM. Unfortunately I couldn't remember the name of the shop and couldn't find a record of charging the purchase or a receipt. Looking on-line I found the Moon Rabbit Toys website which seemed to be in the right location and, from the pictures posted, looked familiar. I emailed the shop and heard back very quickly from Shana. She had never carried any book like I described and was sorry she could not help. I email back more details on where we stayed and the area in which I was shopping and thanked her for her concern. The next morning I received an email from Shana who had walked the area the previous evening but had been unable to find the shop I described. Although I never found what I was seeking, Shana at Moon Rabbit Toys went above and beyond to help me. What a great store! When we went in, the employees were playing one of the games they sell; always a good sign. As soon as we walked in, they stopped what they were doing in order to help us out. They were extremely knowledgeable about their product, were able to recommend some games we had never heard of, and helped us order a specific, hard-to-find foreign game. Owners Shawna & Scott operate an amazing store! They offer a wide array of games for all ages as well as hobby-like merchandise (e.g. yo-yo's). I personally love strategy games (e.g. Diplomacy), and they had several in stock! You can try any of the games as well, and Shawna & Scott will provide a quick tutorial. My daughter and I had so much fun playing some of their games, and ended up buying several. Love this shop! It is a must see if you visit Santa Fe! Check out their game, "Tiger & Egg"---great family game! Very few stores like this still around, and very few owners who really exude a genuine love of their business. If you are a lover of games, this is the place to be. The owner is one of the warmest and friendliest people you could ever meet. After coming into Moon Rabbit Toys, I WISH I were as much into board games as my husband is. The selection here is outstanding, and I think it's so cool that they have open box games to look at and demo. My husband and I were looking at a really neat new game and the owner enthusiastically took out the demo box and explained how the game works to us. She knows her games! And her enthusiasm was contagious... like I almost thought for a minute I would like to play strategy board games, haha. I really think I might have to give some a second try now after talking with the owner :) This shop made my husband's day, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes board games. read more

My kids don't anticipate Santa nearly as much as they anticipate the yearly trip to Moon Rabbit Toys when we travel home to Grandma's house. Since my kids were little, the staff has helped direct us to fun, unique toys that continue to be favorites in our house. Now that the kids are older, we buy fewer toys and many more board games. 1) I don't even know where to start when picking a fun, engaging, smart game, and 2) I am horrible at following directions. No problem at Moon Rabbit Toys! All of the games have a demo version and the staff plays the demo with the kids. Wow, The woman who was working the front (I believe Shana is her name) is not only very rude but she's a total idiot. I brought my 4 little nieces in the store to buy a bunch of toys. I even called 20 minutes before to let her know we're coming and that they each had a $25 limit, totaling $100. We come in and right away my dog picks up a small stuffed animal. She says "that's crazy my dog picks up that same one evert time he comes in too!" I smile and say, "how much is it"? The lady says, " it doesn't matter how much it costs because you're buying it now, you're dog can't just pick up a toy like that, you need to pay for it". I smiled, gave her the $10.00 and told the kids we were going elsewhere. I ended up happily spending $150 and the toy store down the street. Nice job lady!! Ps. Although this store has a pretty good selection, and lots of toys out to play with, unfortunately, the store is run by a woman ill-matched for the job. The two times I've been in, she's reprimanded me or my toddler for doing what any child would do in a toy store, play with the sample toys that are out. She seems to be extremely anal retentive about the items in the store and follows parents around with sappy-sweet passive aggressive commentary. Both times I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. Moon Rabbit Toys is like a tiny, eclectic wonderland. When you walk into this upstairs shop just off the Santa Fe Plaza, you see mobiles and colorful creatures hanging from the ceiling, stuffed animals from hyenas to warthogs lining the walls, clever puzzles and toys you've maybe never seen anywhere else all over the shop. One wall is devoted to fascinating games suitable for adults as well as kids. There's a good mix of stuff for boys as well as girls, and a lot of toys that weren't gender specific, which I really liked, as the kids in my life aren't Disney Princess types. The quirky proprietor, whose sense of humor I really loved, helped me find a toy for my brother's picky son, a kid who has never been interested in toys or gifts hardly at all. She shipped it to him all the way in NY and guess what? He totally loved it and my brother says he still plays with it all the time (a magnetic dartboard). I just love hanging out in there and messing around with the cool toys, and I've been tempted to get stuff for myself! read more

I entered Moon Rabbit Toys with 6 children from 16 down to 2. For the next hour all age groups were happily busied with toys and games, full body sports, objects flying, and ancient civilizations being discussed with vigor! This store and it's owner were a dream come true for all of us. I found the owner had the feel of the Aunt who is most popular with her neices and nephews--detached enough to both enjoy the children, and set clear and apprioriate limits without any overemotional hoop-la which I see in some of the more touchy feely parents of the day. My fiancé and I spent a few days in Santa Fe and forgot to bring any card or board games along for the quiet evenings after skiing and being touristy. Luckily we found Moon Rabbit! We went in looking for an inexpensive card game and they had an excellent selection. The woman at the register came up and told us we could ask her any questions, and sample any of the games they had on the wall- they had open samples of each. She even offered to teach us the rules of any of them, which I was impressed by- there were quite a few games. We ended up picking the basic version of Fluxx, and as soon as she saw it in our hands she was opening up a fan folder to dig out a bonus card for us. We chatted about the games we like and ended up picking the Chthulhu version on her suggestion (complete with a bonus card for that set) and were completely satisfied. Overall our trip to Moon Rabbit Toys was another great stop during a great trip and we'd suggest it to anyone who was looking for toys or games in the area. read more

BEST TOY STORE EVER! We have been frequenting this toy store since our daughter was days old! Whenever we are in Santa Fe, it is the top of the list for our places to visit as our children will not let us do anything else! The woman who runs the shop is the nicest, most knowledgeable and helpful individual. She has helped us on multiple occasions find exactly the toys we cannot leave the store without. On every occasion, the customer service was wonderful, and we were treated as if we were the only ones in the store. For being a small store, there is so much joy and happiness packed within! There are toys for children of all ages, including my husband and I (who are just kids at heart anyway). Our favorite finds are the adorable knitted bird hats, dinosaur figurines, and stuffed cats! Staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Based on their recommendations, we walked out with one game we had heard of and another that was new to us. We cracked open the second game when we got home and played half a dozen games in a row--it's going to be one of our new favorites. Bonus points for the quirky selection of stuffed animals.
