There's something about being out in nature that just feels good. Maybe it's the fresh air, or the sounds of the animals, but whatever it is, I always feel better after spending some time on a ranch. Recently, I had the chance to stay at Moon River Ranch, and it was a great experience. The ranch is located near Waco, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. One of my favorite things about the ranch was getting to help with the animals. I've always loved animals, and it was great to get to spend some time working with them. The 3bedroom house was very clean and the rustic log cabin look made us feel like we were truly on a ranch. The safari ride was so fun and the animals were out and several came Up to the hummer we were riding in..the hayride was an experience as we soaked in the gorgeous sunset! I reserved a 1BR cabin for 3 nights. I was charged immediately for the full stay after being told it would be later. They changed my reservation without my knowledge to a lodge room. I was unaware of this until after the deadline for free cancelation. Upon learning this two weeks before my stay, I tried to contact them via phone and e-mail, never a response. I guess they never intended to make it right. We did not go!! They ruined my 35th Wedding Anniversary!! DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE, GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY THEY WILL SCAM YOU WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. We wanted to cook out, fish, drink coffee on the porch, watch sunsets etc. Not possible in a lodge room! They wanted a review this is it! I would have given them 0 if possible. read more

Getting to Spot: Little hard to find (depending on app you use) Roads are rough, would recommend SUV Parking is grass but during rain, gets muddy Farmhouse cabin: Good views Have to take stairs to 2nd story (if your room is upstairs) AC window units don't keep the room consistent temp Shower is literally less than 5ft away from bed -just a curtain separated water from same bed -shower floor made of rounded pebble rocks (not as bad as some say it is). -hot water is fast and consistent. Really nice. No Closet, limited amount of places to hang clothes and towels for drying purposes. TV didn't seem to work Good views of parking lot and farmland beyond Easy walk to even hall on property Shades are questionable, people can see into room if shades aren't aligned properly. One keurig coffee pod maker. Works well 1 sink only, Lots of furniture to put clothes on, night stands too. Refrig is 4ft tall, limited space, worked as expected Laundry hamper provided in room. Event Hall: A/C worked well Plenty of seating Shuffleboard in poor shape, had mold etc on it Pool table ok, slanted due to concrete it's on. Sound/PA system is awesome Bar area really nice iCE machine works; Sliding glass convenient-style fridge in kitchen, works Full kitchen available Spring full (NOT QUEEN) x2 in room - horrible to sleep on. Felt every spring, every movement about spring'd out of bed (bouncy) Right next to window ac unit, got frozen Other bed next to shower, couldn't feel AC Other info: pretty expensive even with big group, didn't feel it was worth it for the rest expected. Pre-Trip Experience: Before our visit, I spoke with Shy over the phone, and she was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. She answered all my questions and got me even more excited about everything the ranch had to offer. Getting There: We visited for my wife's birthday, bringing along our 11-year-old and 2-year-old. We arrived on a Tuesday and stayed until Thursday--it was quiet at night and incredibly peaceful. Traveling from Round Rock, the GPS guided us directly to the property without any issues. The drive was enjoyable, with scenic views of cows and lush greenery. A few days before arrival, we received an email with everything we needed--gate code, Wi-Fi password, parking instructions, and more--making check-in smooth. Upon arrival at our cabin, we were greeted by the sight of zebras and Jack the camel, which was an incredible surprise! The Camellia Cabin: First Impressions: Cool, cozy, and well-designed--felt like a tiny home. Living Area: Spacious fridge and ample cabinet space. Stove available for cooking. TV, loveseat, and a comfortable chair. Loft Area: Two full-sized beds (low ceiling but cozy). Bathroom: Clean with a sliding door. Water was consistently hot (bring your own soap--mentioned in the email). Main Bedroom: Full-sized bed with two closets. The AC is positioned above the bed--great for cooling down, but be prepared for direct airflow. Extras: Fireplace for s'mores. Plug-in bug zapper. Plenty of firewood provided. The Property: Beautiful and spacious with plenty to explore! Wildlife: Baby goats, peacocks, and geese freely roaming the grounds. Outdoor Activities: Swings and grassy areas perfect for picnics. Bikes available for riding around the property. Lovely pool area for relaxing. The Extras: Safari Tour (Highly Recommended!) A 600-acre tour behind a gated section of the property. Our guide (whose name I sadly can't recall, but I believe it started with "A") was amazing--his passion and knowledge of the animals made the experience unforgettable. We saw wildebeests, bison, red stags, llamas, and more. When it started to rain, our guide quickly pulled my into a shed to keep us dry and continued sharing fascinating details about the animals and property. A must-do experience--kudos to the staff! Horseback Riding (Trip Highlight!) Just outside the main gate (about 9 yards to the left). We were greeted by Kenneth and his associate, who were welcoming and professional. My wife rode Oil Money, while I was paired with Geronimo--my first time on a horse! I was nervous at first, but Geronimo was a pro--he knew exactly what he was doing, even if I didn't! The ride lasted over an hour, and we felt like we got every penny's worth. Final Thoughts: Moon River Ranch exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff was friendly, helpful, and always available to answer questions. The property was stunning and offered so much to do. We truly made the most of our two-day stay and can't wait to return! Came here for my wife's Christmas present. She loves the outdoors and being with the kids. As much as I like this place in December I bet I would love it even more in the summer. All the lodging is very unique and a joy to see and sleep in. Very cozy. You can rent an ATV to go around the property and see all the animals and landscape. We are having a great time. The place is beautiful. I want to come back with more family and friends and make it an event. Highly suggest especially if you want to get away from the city and enjoy nature. The hospitality was amazing at this place. Was able to stay here for a wedding and stay in two different rooms, both offering two different experiences - both comfortable and clean. The property is very large with lots of things to do from ATV, hay rides, wildlife adventures and more. The nearest town is about 30+ minutes away, so make sure to bring some food. The rooms have fridges and some have a full kitchen. There are chickens, mini horses, deer and more. We also had a flat tire (bc my tires are way overdue for a change, not because of anything at the property) and they had someone come to help us air up the tire so we could go to the nearest shop. read more

We had our daughter's wedding here! It was absolutely beautiful! The venue had so many great options it was almost hard to decide exactly where to do the ceremony! Our family had an amazing adventure at Moon River Ranch. We began our adventure by taking a tour of the property on an ATV. Then we played in the Brazos River that runs through the ranch. Every where you look you are greeted with wildlife and breathtaking views. The ranch staff were amazing. First off this place is amazing! We stayed in one of the tiny cabins. Tiny is an understatement, enough room for a small family with an entire full size kitchen. With the amazing views to the awesome staff. This place is a 10 out of 10. We had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Tracie, she was the lady we booked with as well as if we had problems we reached out to her. We had a blast ripping the ATV through the trails as well as taking a dive in Brazil's rivers at Beach One. This place is a hidden gem. We can not wait until our next visit. read more

Came to this lovely place last weekend for a girls trip. Great place to get out of the city and just enjoy what nature has to offer. Just awesome country vibe. Heads up the final road to get there is gravel and bumpy. Personally wouldn't drive a really nice vehicle there. Also the whole place is dirt and gravel. I wasn't expecting that and went for a wedding. I couldn't wear my shoes and had to wear my rubber beach sandals. Just annoying more than anything that that wasn't mentioned or on the website. Also, I wouldn't waste your money on the safari if I were you. It's pretty short and boring. Other than that the staff was extremely friendly and the rooms are unique and pretty clean considering all the cars driving through the property and kicking up dust. read more

Stay Away. What a horrible experience! My wife and I stayed 2 nights. We requested a cabin, they call them mini-houses, and were put in a mediocre room. The shower and toilet were basically part of the room and there were no doors, just a half-curtain around the toilet and a shower curtain. The shower floor was 1 to 2 inch rocks seemlingly set in some kind of epoxy. The rocks protruded out of the epoxy and were painful and treacherous to stand on and navigate. We were also threatened by an irate guest for being in what we thought was a common area and management did nothing about it. We were provided a "Resort Map." This property is NOT a resort in any way, shape or form. This is a serious misrepresentation of the propoerty. Stay away! read more

I stayed here for a week during a family reunion. The location is very secluded and private. The rooms in the main house are decorated with a lot of Texan flare. We felt like we couldn't walk anywhere on the property without seeing something new. The house had so much personality. The ranch hand, Matthew (I think his name was) was incredibly friendly and took many of us out to the pastures to see and feed the longhorns one afternoon. Such a great experience. read more

My whole family really enjoyed our stay here. It's a very unique and pretty place, 25 minutes from Baylor University, but you drive through a cotton field to get there. It is definitely a Ranch top property, so be prepared for gravel roads and walking outdoors. It's best to bring a pair of slip on boots, all the rooms from the hotel style rooms to the bedrooms in the main lodge are very nicely decorated in the theme of a rustic Lodge. The party barn is roomy and has a good size kitchen, as well as the main house. The kitchen in the main house is unbelievable! We stayed in the winter, which was nice, but the summer would probably be a lot of fun with use of the pool and access to the river. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It's not a luxury property with a lot of on-site staff, as their website explains. But they are very accommodating and easy to work with. I'm from the Northwest and went here this weekend for my cousin's wedding. It was truly an experience. The place is in the middle of nowhere but everything you need is at the ranch. We stayed in the nearby farmhouse. It was probably the original house that was on the ranch. It was rustic and cute. The small bathroom shower didn't really work but the main shower was okay (decent water pressure). The bunk beds were fine for us. The pond was super fun and there was a paddle boat. We went out several times for that and had a blast. The pool was great for lounging and cooling off. They did a hayride around the ranch, which was fun --even for us adults. The cows, donkeys and llamas all roamed free. There was skeet shooting (looked fun but I didn't try it). The main lodge was HUGE and totally impressive. There was so much to see you'd never see it all. Every time I went in there I discovered something new. It was like a maze in there with lots of rooms and places to stay. The actually wedding was outside in front of the cute chapel and the reception was in the barn. The decorations were adorable. The bridesmaids arrived in a red pickup truck and the bride arrived in a horse-drawn carriage. It was a cool, fun wedding and everything was perfect. It's a great spot! First I would like to say that the Ranch is very secluded and quite. It is a beautiful place to be at. However, my experience became a nightmare once I arrived for a family wedding. I was told that once I arrived I was not allowed to enter or stay in the main Lodge with my Service Dog. I was told that I would have to sleep in the bunkhouse away from my family. according to management "It would be cheaper for them to spray my room than to spray the lodge for pet dander and they were concerned about their "Very expensive furniture downstairs". This is a serious violation of the ADA under service animals. It was Humiliating and embarrassing to say the least. I am a retired FF/MEDIC of 30 years and a 9/11 First responder with C-PTSD...Very disappointed in the way I was treated!! read more

We just put on a weekend of corporate meetings at Moon River Ranch and are so pleased with our experience. The manager, Mickey, took wonderful care of our event details and our guests. The rooms were unique, luxurious and clean and the grounds were beautiful - roses blooming, sandy river beaches and fire pits for gathering after hours. Our guests had a great time shooting skeet, hiking, swimming, roasting s'mores on the beach and just rocking on the porch that overlooks the pool and palm trees.
