Even though it was the twilight of summer/dawn of fall, Morcom Municipal Rose Garden still displayed a robust array of rose blooms in a variety of colors and sizes. There were also other kinds of flowers encircling at the borders for a complementing backdrop. It was during the late afternoon, so the rays of the lazy sun were gently bathing the ovals of bushes, effecting a soft hue on all the flower petals. In the middle was a small reflection pool, featuring water that was actually clean! Those volunteers are taking care of this place well. In fact, I saw one tidying up the area by the side of the trickle-down tiered-fountain, which was unbelievably long in length but nonetheless aesthetically soothing. As a whole, the ambience invites one to just relax and release. Accepting the invite were visitors that spanned the generations. Seniors and YAs adorned the benches reading, contemplating, chatting. A couple napped by the reflection pool. Two little ballerinas, still in their performance fits and tailed by their doting dad, entered center stage ready to dance anew among the roses. Morcom Garden beckoned me to join them. But my creaky knee reminded me it was better to watch.

anxiety-inducing bathroom stalls or for those who enjoy exposure (What happened here? Budget shortfall?)

The rose garden is a gem. It is absolutely stunning--peaceful and beautifully kept. But the bathroom situation? Uncomfortable. The bathroom stall doors are so high, I am exposed when I sit down on the toilet.

The Morcom rose garden is such a neighborhood gem when everything is in bloom. It's become a favorite spot for my daily walk, and I love the tranquility and the assortment of roses. The vounteers do an amazing job maintaining the garden; a small team is there seemingly every day. There are benches for relaxing, chatting, and reading, and the many pedestrian paths efficiently route folks to and from the Grand and Piedmont shopping districts and surrounding residential neighborhoods. It's both in the middle of things and tucked away. Every great city needs a rose garden.

Clearly posted signs throughout the park that dogs are not allowed.

This is a beautiful rose garden with lots of cute paths to walk. There's three main sections to see. Lovely place to take pictures with friends and family. Unfortunately, the experience is ruined with dog owners who bring their fleabags here in spite of signs at every entrance that forbid dogs from entering. Went today with family and counted a total of fourteen dogs. FOURTEEN. Two of which were unleashed. Dog owners are literally the worst.

Many years ago....then boyfriend and I lived in Oakland. We found this wonderful spot was within walking distance of our apartment... and walked there frequently. We got married, bought a house, and had a baby girl...who we used to take on walks to smell the roses. Life happened, and we moved. This week we took a trip down nostalgia lane with DGD the Younger. We were thrilled this hidden gem was just as wonderful as it was years ago. It was so fun to see our Granddaughter's delight, snapping pictures and taking it all in. Magical.

If you're running an errand at Ace Hardware on Grand, especially in spring, you should take advantage and stroll down Jean Street and immerse yourself among the sea of roses in full bloom. Hidden away in a purely residential area, it was no wonder three couples were posing for wedding photos here. They had plenty of room, eight acres separated into three sections yet looking very much like one entity. The most arresting part is in the middle where the cascading reflecting pool is surrounded by rose beds in multiple color hues. Dog walkers take advantage of the winding paths circling and dividing the garden. Fortunately there are plenty of benches to allow you a contemplative moment, probably something you can do in the dead of winter when the flowers presumably disappear. In that case, I beg your pardon. I never promised you a rose garden. RELATED - Exploring Oakland? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2ObVcpQ

Delightful neighborhood rose garden for pictures, to picnic, or just to ramble about.

I feel so lucky to live a mere 20 min walk away from this floral sanctuary tucked in a residential area in the Grand Lake Oakland neighborhood. Opened in the late 1920s, this eight-acre municipal rose garden features more than 6,000 rose bushes of all varieties. There are so many adjectives to describe it- beautiful, peaceful, relaxing, spacious, quiet...to name a few. I have frequented the garden on an after-dinner walk, impromptu picnic on the bench, a place to peacefully read, and simply to admire the rows of beautiful roses. I've seen others take a more active approach and jog some figure 8's. No matter the reason, there's a sense of calm and wonder whenever I enter, as if we had just escaped the chaos from external world. Bloom season is late April through October so you have half the year to enjoy this gorgeous garden in its prime. I went last week and the roses were just starting to bud. Just keep it a secret so it doesn't get too popular would ya?

    A rose rosing!

Amazing rose gardens to see and enjoy the peacefulness, and beautiful flowers here. Yada, yada yada

Enjoying beautiful Mother Nature in the Oakland area... During vacation time, there's only so much one can eat or buy. I like to go sightseeing once in a while, get some exercise, and explore the surroundings... Morcom Municipal Rose Garden is an excellent place to relax, take a casual stroll, and look at fragrant, colorful roses of all kinds! They're all labeled! My lunch buddy, Dear Daniel (from Honolulu) had written a heartwarming review about this garden. I also read intriguing reviews by Santi T. and Vincent L. who described their peaceful experiences here and the convenient location with free street parking! I was really happy to visit Marcom Municipal Rose Garden with Hazel C. We discovered the walkway which The Oakland Chamber of Commerce (since 1954) acknowledges the Mother of the Year. We saw a wild turkey, a couple of playful squirrels, a few benches where visitors can chat or read, and an awesome reflecting pool! Too bad the waterfall wasn't running... maybe it means that we should return one day? Thanks to Hazel for joining me on this fun adventure! Let's see if there are water lilies next time!

Realtor Life - taking a break - I came across the Marcom Rose Garden Park during a break from an Open House near by. What a wonderful place to enjoy a peaceful walk, meditate and take in the sights of the beautiful roses. A most see -

So beautiful and fragrant! You can already smell the roses as you walk down the path to the garden from the street. There are a few different entrances but the one on Jean street is the main one. At 8 acres this rose garden is pretty big, more than twice the size of the one in Berkeley. So many roses! So many colors represented: lavender, soft orange, pink, red, white, yellow, blood red, orange, and fuchsia. It's a good balance of a rustic yet manicured feel with the design. In addition to the many different styles and colors of roses, there is a pond with lily pads, ducks, descending waterfall pools, and even a family of wild turkeys roaming around!

Beautiful place for photos! (Bottom of waterfalls)

I swear that I wrote a review here but apparently I didn't. My friend who grew up in the Bay Area told me about this place so that I could take Mink to stroll through when she came to visit me in CA. We were dating at the time and I knew she would love the place because it offers many photo opportunities. What I loved about the place is that it was a lot closer to visit than the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. I was living in Walnut Creek or Alamo at the time. Hop on the 24 and within 30 minutes or so, we were there. Mink absolutely loved Morcome Municipal Rose Garden. She liked the design of the place and that it was a hidden gem in Oakland. Lots of street parking available in the neighborhood and it was easy to find with Google Maps/Navi. We saw kids there on a field trip, older couples people watching on benches and people taking photos for a photoshoot. The area was safe, clean and tranquil. She liked it here so much that we added it to my in-laws itinerary for their first trip to the US. Great place to visit and to take the time to smell the roses.

Fast forward to yesterday. We had a restaurant in Albany that we wanted to check out so of course we had to hike first to get our appetites whet. I found a loop I wanted us to try on AllTrails. It's called the Dunn Trail--Monteiro Trail Loop. We parked at the Richard C. Trudeau Conference Center on Skyline Blvd. It was the perfect spot to start. Free parking. Public restrooms (even flush toilets!). If you have a dog, most of this trail is off-leash which I have never seen before. Every dog we saw were well behaved and having a great time. We don't have dogs of our own but I am a big dog person. This particular loop was exactly what I was looking for. It had several different biomes. Despite what AllTrails said, it is not all shaded but it was a beautiful, sunny, windy day. We saw lots of wildflowers blooming. We found there to be a difference between AllTrails and our measurements. AllTrails said it was roughly 500+ ft elevation gain but ours said 1000. That's a huge difference! But I would believe ours over theirs. There were a lot of inclines. Also, their's said it was 3.5 miles but ours said a mile longer. The trails were all very well maintained. We saw gorgeous views, small waterfalls/creeks, redwoods, butterflies--just lovely. It was less busy than I anticipated but we arrived before 9 a.m. We finished by 11. This is a big park and lots to explore. Highly recommend!

Most of it was shaded and among redwood trees so I really enjoyed that this could work as an afternoon hike. It's a moderate difficulty level with some steep areas. There's also a popular picnic area with grills and an archery range. You could even walk to the nearby swimming pool or visit the Chabot. We only did one half of the hiking loop so will be back to check out the other side.
