Rather than buying something out of the ready-made deli section at Sobey's, we decided to stop in at More than Ice Cream for some Chinese food. It took less than 15 minutes for our take-out to be ready, even though we stopped in later at night (about 9:30 -- they close at 10:30). The food is good, and Karen is right -- they have fairly big portions. The prices are a bit high, but you always end up with enough left overs to last a few meals. We called to rectify the issue and nothing was given. $50 down the drain, customer lost and still hungry. Since it's been under new ownership, it's gone down hill. Go somewhere else. read more

This is a short review from me but honestly, I'm not a fan. Sorry. Like other reviews have mentioned, the food is really greasy. And personally for me, the taste was not palatable, not to mention the disagreement it had with my stomach. I found the atmosphere to be dim and cramped. I'm ok with cozy but this wasn't cozy. It was claustrophobic. I'm really not inclined to go there again with other Chinese choices available in town. read more

I remember More Than Ice Cream from over fifteen years ago, and continued to order from them up until I moved away for school, well after the arrival of chain and fast food establishments to Strathmore. While More Than Ice Cream wasn't the most vegan friendly, they knew my dad's order by heart, because it always included an order of Shanghai Noodles with mixed veggies, sans oyster sauce for me. There were also a couple of other menu items I was able to have modified, which I feel was very sweet of them. It's kind of a strange little place, as it claims to serve "Chinese and Western food," also it is a definitely westernized take on Chinese food already, not authentic. By Western though, I believe they mean they also serve burgers and fries. In the front little entrance where you go to pick up your food, there is also ice cream, what seemed like a plethora of flavours when I was a kid, but is no McKay's (even though I hate you, McKays!) or Marble Slab. It was still one of my favourite places as a kid to go with family or friends, grab a cone of rainbow sorbet, and let it drip all over my face and hands whilst walking around the park across the street. In my later years it lost its charm when I realized that park was actually not designated for public use, but underage drinking. And when I learned to make my own sorbet. But still. Makes Strathmore feel like a bit of a small town still, and not the rapidly expanding bedroom community it's become. I'll never be back to the town again, but I'd recommend More Than Ice Cream. read more

Where does one go for great Chinese food in Strathmore? Why More Than Ice Cream of course! Whether its a combo you're after, or you prefer several platters (yes, I mean platters) of individual selections to share, the food is great. Simple surroundings, friendly staff, large portions and good prices. I'm particularly fond of the Almond Sui Gai and the Special Gai Ding. And they give you containers to take home what you can't finish, and unless you're there with an army, you will have leftovers. And if that wasn't enough for you, stop in the front on your way out for a great ice cream cone to top off your meal. read more

Very tasty food. I have not found better in the city (Calgary). Portions are huge and you don't see many people leave without a doggy bag. Great burgers too. Combination plate $9.95. read more

This is a great Chinese restaurant with some of the best Fried Rice and Ginger Beef this side of Vancouver. The western dishes are also tasty (I personally love the Chicken Club). The ice cream is also top notch! read more

It's been a few years since ordering takeout from More Than Ice cream so I checked out the reviews. They were wrong! The dishes we ordered were delicious and very generous. 80 bucks fed 6 adults second helpings and there was enough left over for lunch the next day. The friendly staff that took our order said it would delivered in 30 minutes and it was delivered in 30 minutes. And piping hot. Definitely ordering again. read more

We have eaten here before and this time it was the worst we have ever eaten. We ordered over $90.00 worth and the doughy texture and lack of flavour prompted me to call and complain. I am not normally one to complain unless it is really bad - spoke to the "manager" and she told me that she couldn't do anything. Food was your average Chinese (Alberta Chinese) fare. Prices are right on for what you get nothing to rave about. The only bad thing was the service, only one server and she was trying her best but it was hard for her to cover ten tables by herself. Everything was rushed so she was spilling water on the tables, food was cold at some tables etc but can't really blame her maybe it was busier than normal but another server would make a difference. Had Cantonese chow mein (had over cooked Raman noodles), ginger fried chicken (no flavour and very chewy), and palace style chicken (bitter taste followed by a very spicy kick).
