A family member of mine recently found herself locked out of her home with four young children. Her husband is currently deployed overseas with the military, leaving her to manage everything on her own. When she called this locksmith for assistance, she was surprised to be told that because it was Father's Day and he works seven days a week, he would prefer not to come out and suggested she call back in a few hours if she couldn't figure it out herself. What the locksmith failed to realize is that the person on the other end of the phone was already having a difficult day. She lost her father a few short years ago, making Father's Day an especially emotional and challenging day for her. While he had no way of knowing her personal circumstances, that is exactly why empathy and professionalism matter when dealing with customers who are reaching out for help. While everyone deserves personal and family time, this business advertises 24/7 locksmith services. When someone calls a locksmith, it is usually because they are experiencing a stressful situation and need immediate assistance. In this case, she was simply trying to utilize a service that was being advertised as available. What made the interaction particularly disappointing was the lack of compassion and customer service. The locksmith's response came across as dismissive rather than helpful, leaving a mother of four young children to feel as though her situation was an inconvenience. I would not recommend this business based on this experience. More than anything, I would recommend a greater level of professionalism, courtesy, and understanding toward customers who are reaching out for help. If a business advertises 24/7 emergency service, customers should reasonably expect to be treated with respect when they call for assistance--regardless of the day or holiday. P.S. I did pay him the higher price, as I do not live in this area but was visting a close relative at the time. I had to return to my area, as I am a care giver and only had 1 day off.
