The Morristown Green is a square located in the heart of Morristown. It is the site of the first courthouse (1754) and jail. During the Revolutionary War Torries (those who worked on behalf of the British) were hung in the square. Today, it is a park with statuary, benches, trees, shrubs and seasonal flower displays Last week I visited the park during their annual Christmas lighting displays. This tradition has been going on for over 100 years. Their was a lit 12' Christmas Tree. A Santa's house where pictures could be taken with Santa for $15. A Santa mailbox was present for children can drop off a letter to Santa. During the Christmas festival carolers are in the square, ice sculpture demonstrations are performed and other activities are prepared for children. Most activities take place Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Street parking by meters is free, as well as, a free parking garage. read more

Been to Morristown downtown many times, and it's always nice to see a park right in the middle of the city. It feels good to take a walk here while being surrounded by the bustle and hustle of downtown life. The last two visits were during Christmas, and this place truly shines during the holiday season. The festive lighting around the park adds a beautiful , feels like festive season, right! They usually have a carol section, but the Meet with Santa event is clearly the most popular--especially with families. The kids' train ride is another big hit and adds to the holiday excitement... There are also a couple of statues and memorials in the park, dedicated to history and local heritage, Overall, it's a great spot to relax, walk around, and soak in the holiday spirit--perfect for families, kids, or even a casual stroll while exploring downtown. read more

This park at the heart of Morristown is one of the few surviving colonial-era greens in the state. Established as early as 1715, it served as a communal hub where townspeople grazed livestock, drew water from a shared well, and gathered for religious, political, and social events. During the Revolutionary War, it became a military parade ground--General George Washington even supervised drills from nearby Arnold's Tavern. What makes Morristown Green especially notable is its rarity. While many American cities were originally designed around central squares or commons, only a fraction have preserved them as active public parks. Think of Boston Common, New Haven Green, or Savannah's many squares--each a living remnant of colonial planning. But in New Jersey, only Morristown and Newark still retain their original greens in recognizable form. After stopping to visit Morris Frank and Buddy, we walked this square and enjoyed the pleasant space, the many statues and monuments and then a bench. And then back to the Sprinter for more driving. I just love the Morristown Green this time of year. They do a wonderful job of decorating for the holidays. Photo opps are a plenty - there's a large lit up Christmas tree and lots of other pretty Christmas lights. The best part? Santa's workshop is here! There is a cute little cottage and you can go inside and take a photo with santa. A souvenir polaroid photo is $15 and you can also take your own photos too. Every year my children are absolutely terrified of Santa, and it's sad but also hilarious. Santa is also really friendly and funny and it's been the same santa every year! In the summer there are always events on the green like the jazz fest and Downtown Morristown fest. It's fun to go for an event, but is also a nice place to take a quiet stroll. The green is definitely an iconic part of downtown Mo'town! read more

Always enjoy walking around the historic Morristown Green. You feel like you're part of history viewing the beautiful bronze statues such as "The Alliance"-commemorating the meeting of General George Washington, Colonel Alexander Hamilton with the Marquis de Lafayette and the "Patriots Farewell Fountain"(Revolutionary War Monument). I absolutely love it here the most during summer! It is the perfect balance of abundant sunshine, plentiful shade, and a soothing cross-breeze if you're seated or standing still for a few minutes. If you enjoy people-watching (like me), it is also a great space for that. There are plenty of eateries, coffee shops, and more everywhere you turn. Also, you'll learn a bit of history if you browse the statue inscriptions throughout. Or simply relax near the babbling fountain - my favorite. Can't wait to go back! read more

Owned and operated by the Trustees of the Morristown Green, this park has been the heart and soul of Morristown since it began appearing on maps in 1715. One of only two remaining "greens" in the entire state of New Jersey; the other green is in Newark, which my partner and I visited over the weekend. Two monuments stood out on our first visit. One features life-sized George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and the Marquis de Lafayette meeting to discuss the French tall ships King Louis XVI of France sent to support the fight for independence. Another serves as a memorial to the Civil War. There are no amenities, but it borders historical places, stores, restaurants, and bars. A nice place to relax if one's in Morristown. read more

MORRISTOWN: Brie had a fun time strolling around Morristown Green! It is a park right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown and there are walking paths surrounded by trees, pretty plant life, and statues. Leashed-dogs are allowed! The park also has some historical significance as being George Washington's first encampment during the Revolutionary War. It is also the original site of Morris County's courthouse. Stopped by the park while they were having a Festival. The park was very nice with a fountain and lots of benches to enjoy the scenery. The downtown area here is pretty nice with lots of shops and restaurants. Nice to take a stroll around... We ended up having lunch at Fiamma which serves up some delicious Italian food... they have a delicious vodka pizza there too. Definitely recommend you check out the park and downtown... Well tended and manicured Park in the form of a town square located in the center of Morristown -- with revolutionary war pedigree. I've walked it many times over the years for business and pleasure. Very pleasant venue for concerts and other public events. Large enough for BYO seating on grassy surfaces -- but small enough to get an intimate feel. Lots of eateries and saloons surround the square -- abundant seating in the park too -- making this a very pleasant destination for outdoor concerts and a repast. Top Tip: Lewis Morris State Park is just down the road. First rate county park with plenty of open space, a lake, baseball fields, bike paths and all sorts of outdoor recreation. Worth a side look before or after checking out the Green. read more

The Morristown Green is the site of Morris County's two earliest court houses. The Green was purchased in 1816 from the Presbyterian Church, owned and continuously administered by the trustees of the Morristown Green. This is a well maintained spot that is as beautiful in the night as it is in the day. There are a lot of benches that you can just kick back and chill as well as some grassy area that you can lay down and relax at. They have statutes, a fountain, and placards with some history notes of the area. This is also a good place to walk/jog. It seemed safe and was adequately lit. Not too bright, not too dark. This park is very peaceful and serene and is a good place to just relax and take a deep breath. And to top it all off, its FREE. There is metered street parking that surrounds the park and it is free after 8PM. The park is not huge, nor does it have many activities. However, it is a historical site and a place to just slow down from the daily hustle and bustle. I enjoyed my brief time at the park and I am sure you will too. read more

I was completely blown away with this park, Its the heart and soul of Morristown. Surrounded by a fountain, solder monuments as well as a revolutionary war monument, its historic and the churches have been watching over the park for 100s of years. In the afternoon, the church bells are ringing. Total Americana, I felt like I was in a Norman Rockwell painting or an episode of The Ghost Whisper. Then I started to read about the town. Morristown Green was the site of the Morris County Courthouse and jail for nearly 75 years. Come to find out, it was used as a public executions ground. So much for peaceful! I read a great book called "New York", it was about Washington and how he fought the British to keep our America free. This spot was involved in that process which makes the Morristown Green 5 stars from me today. read more

The center of town, the green is where its at in Morristown. A nice park where people can walk or hang u, there is always something to do and people around. Events such as Fall Fest, First Night, and other festivals typically occur at certain times of year. There are always fun things to do on the green. Located nearby are dozens of restaurants, stores, and activities todo when you are here. Parking is sometimes hard due to the traffic and construction occurring in town. Overall great place. Memories will be made here and if you are a local, you'll know whats going on. read more

Whenever I arrive in Morristown early for a G.Y.E., I end up walking around the downtown area before heading to the exact location that I need to be at. Of course I would end up walking on and around this fine piece of land as well. Around the land is where US-202 and NJ-124 run concurrently in a "rotating" fashion, making drivers drive around half, most, or all of the sides of the square so they could get to where they need to park at or go home. Sometimes there would be a lot of traffic here, and other times there wouldn't. But you would see more of this place on foot. I know I did. When you hear the word "green" in a park or an outdoor common, you would think about grass and plants. Well, that is true here, but there's more than just that. There are a number of historical statues scattered about here. Each of them contained engraved titles and/or descriptions that described each one. There's also a water fountain here that includes a historical description as well. There are also some historical "markers" that describe a little bit about this space in general. As I walked around here, I got a closer look at the historical statues. It was interesting to read the engraved descriptions on the statues. Hey, there's nothing wrong with learning a little history here. You could also be respectful to those who were dedicated here, including those who fought in the civil war. The water fountain was only active during the warm weather. It was cold during my most recent experience here (I've been here 3 times total). The pathways in this historical place can be quite windy. What I mean is that there's no quick way to breeze through this square. But if you're not in a hurry to get someplace, then it probably won't matter. Just keep on walking! Events do take place here from time to time, even though I never had the time to experience any. Overall, this is a very good common area. My favorite part of the park is the Great Civil War Monument. Considering the size of this common area, which isn't very big, this is how long the review is going to go. read more

This park is fine for a quick look! It's very pretty, but it is very small! It does have nice statues of famous Americans. One that looked very real! Scary! The park has some nice places to sit! The park is full with benches! It's a good place to definitely have lunch! There is a lot of things to do outside near the park such as Starbucks, and there are a few banks! It is in a good location since Morristown is so historic. However, if you're one of those people that like those big open parks, that you can walk around and admire nature, I wouldn't say this is the place! read more

Quasi -Park that holds festivals, parades and during the holidays, Santa is there. It's in the center of Morristown and is surrounded by business on all sides (think a square). It's on the smaller side and we love to go here during the warmer days for a nice stroll all the while grabbing lunch at the numerous spots nearby. ENJOY! read more

The Green is the heart of historic, George-Washington-slept-here Morristown, New Jersey. Visit Santa in December, watch fireworks at New Year's, wander by blooming cherry trees in Spring, feast at the Fall Festival in September, enjoy live jazz in October, and stare at the spectacle of the Morris County St. Patrick's parade every March -- all centered on the Green. On regular days bring a coffee here for a shady seat, let your dog frolic in a fountain or have a tube steak at the umbrella room :) Given in trust in 1816 by The Presbyterian Church in Morristown, this park is a public-private partnership. Quite well maintained too. Nice sculpture of Washington, Hamilton and Lafayette is a rather recent addition. And don't forget the Morris County war memorial from 1871. My only complaint is about the oddly circuitous wandering paths - there's just no fast route across! read more

A Green Space in Morristown to Park and Play The Morristown Green was one of the sole reasons we moved to Morristown when relocating to New Jersey. Besides the obvious green space, it offers a place for the diverse range of locals and visitors to park, meet, relax, and enjoy. It provides a sense of nature while still being able to access the conveniences of being in town. Being next to so many shops and restaurants The Green is an impressive green space. It's convenience as a meeting space or a place to unwind can not be emphasized enough. The Green is surrounded entirely with metered parking which is convenient if you want to hang out in the park or just pop into one of the many establishments on or near South Street. The green boasts some impressive historical art. There are life sized statues of the meeting of George Washington, Hamilton, and Lafayette. The Morris County War Memorial is situated at the intersection of Morris Street and Park Place. There is also a fountain entitled "Patriot's Farewell" which is in operation in the warmer months. The trees here are labeled for those who enjoy knowing what type of tree is providing shade and/or color. The flowers that are planted here will also catch your attention during spring and summer. Don't forget about all of the signs giving some history of The Green and what used to be here or nearby. Come to The Green and check it out. There is more here to see than you might imagine at first glance. read more

The busiest spot in Morristown, and people here love it. 1. On the north side, here is the only hotel Hyatt, and the best movie theater in town. 2. West side are many banks and financial firm such as scottrade and fidelity. You can even find a small shopping "mall". Further west is the Wholefood. 3. South and east and tons of restaurants and bars, lightly rated on Yelp. Further south is the Nonsense Fort. 4. Further east locates the Morristown library and MPAC perform theater. The center of town, both literally and figuratively speaking, the Green is a 1-square block park with benches, walkways, a fountain, statues, trees, and a large grassy area. Surrounded by banks, churches, parking spots and roads on all sides, all sorts of events occur on the Green throughout the year. If you're heading to Morristown, it's often the easiest place to meet someone as it's the most central point of downtown Motown. Events include . . . Santa and Christmas lighting, outdoor movies, Tea Party Rallies, community events, you name it. During warmer months it's a great spot to have lunch and sit out on the grass. The Green actually has two Cherry Blossom trees which bloom at the same time as the ones in NYC. The park can have some characters of lesser repute at night, but usually nobody too bad. There are lots of cops that hang out nearby, so don't try to drink booze outside. There are better parks outside of town but the Green isn't half bad, and the flowers definitely do come into bloom at the right time of year. read more

A rich history if you read into it, well maintained paths, beautiful gardens, heirloom trees all marked and identified, statues and monuments with history behind them, a gorgeous fountain, and built in checker tables for patron use. Great park especially in the beginning of summer! Every year when the cold weather ends they start growing the grass and giving it a greener look. The only bad thing is the parking there isn't much close to it but you can park at a parking lot nearby. read more
