Right fron the beginning working with Jim so extremely hard. We signed with him in June, in…read moreSeptember I had to call him in order to try to schedule our engagement photos. He never returned my calls or texts for weeks. Finally, at the end of October we were able to take our engagement photos. Then I did not hear from him until 2 weeks before my wedding when I started calling him again and again it was hard to get ahold of him. The day of my wedding he did alright the pictures are good but the videographer is in a good majority of my pictures, which kind of ruins them. After the wedding was all done we got some photos about a week after the wedding which was great with the promise of more to come soon! At the beginning of December we still hadn't hear and again Jim wasn't returning calls or texts. We got a couple more after my mom called him in December. Then a couple months went by and I had totally forgotten about my video and the rest of the pictures because so much time had gone by. In April I started call Jim again, weeks would go by before he would respond to any texts or calls. When he would he would insist that he was almost done with my video and I would be getting it soon. I finally got my video the first week in August 2 weeks before my wedding anniversary. The video was a mess and most of it doesn't even have sound. Sign with caution. This was the worst and most stressful experience of my wedding.

With LinkedIn and social media being such a big deal now a days, you better look profesh, and you better look good while you're doing it. Kara generously offered to schedule me in the next day after I had anxiously reached out because my…read morebaby was nearing 6 weeks old and I was having a difficult time scheduling newborn photos (typically taken within the first 2 weeks of life) with a different photographer. She cleared her schedule and was able to beautifully capture my increasingly huge and more active, less sleepy infant. The preparation that went into the shoot was top notch from the heat being turned up in the studio so my baby wasn't cold to the wide variety of outfits, props, sound machine, and she even had a camping/outdoorsy background that fit our nursery theme! We BOTH felt we were in the best of care; my baby is normally fussy in the hands of strangers but Kara had a way of calming him to get all the cutest poses effortlessly, and I as a new mom was able to finally relax for a few hours. If there is one thing I appreciate in working with professionals, it's those that are detail oriented and prepared--Jen is both! I didn't have to worry one bit. Rain or shine, I knew my pictures were going to look amazing. It's not every day that you meet a photographer as prepared and professional enough to have galoshes and 10 black umbrellas in their car just in case of rain. She even brings her own lighting if need be. What I especially love is how organized she was about the wedding timeline. Snap snap snap, a few jokes to get great laughs and beautiful smiles, and then move on to the next set! There is no dilly-dally going on but it all felt very natural. She gets the shot and moves on to another beautiful pose. This made it especially wonderful for the family shots. We lined up, added and subtracted people--and snap snap snap--we were done! We were able to enjoy most of our cocktail hour and appetizers because of it! AMAZING. Okay, so lets talk about her personality. She is so cool! Easy going, makes you feel good behind the camera. You can tell that she enjoys everyone's unique personalities and she knows how to make that come out in her pictures. I would not recommend Marmalade. We received a family session as a gift. Lauren was responsive to…read morecommunication and delivered our photographs in the time frame that she committed to (2 weeks). The session was scheduled for an hour, however it started raining on the day of our shoot, so it shortened to 50 minutes, with the last 10-15 minutes of pictures taken in the rain (aka unhappy toddler). Lauren did not offer to reschedule. When we approached her about the session running short, her solution was for us to purchase an additional mini session. In addition, despite claiming to specialize in family photography, we found Lauren to be somewhat inexperienced and not very engaging with children. In the past when we have worked with lifestyle photographers (N=3), we have received some direction: "Lean in a bit, hold your head closer, tickle your daughter." I am holding our daughter quite unnaturally in many of the portraits and Lauren did not provide any instruction or feedback for this. When she took a few isolated portraits of our 14 month old daughter, she really made no attempts to interact with her to get any smiles. In the end, it was most disappointing that we tried to resolve our concerns with Lauren and her response was, "the photos delivered were consistent with my brand of more naturally posed family portraits. I can offer you a mini session (20 minutes, 8 edited high-resolution digital images) for $175 to capture another family portrait." We will not be using her for any of our family photography needs in the future. Of note, she seems to have removed the "reviews" feature from her facebook page, which makes me question if we are not her only dissatisfied customer.
