I keep hoping for that five-star breakfast, but it hasn't arrived yet. The staff is incredibly friendly. When I arrived, I was curious if there was any seating left, and she walked up the stairs to check if there was an open table (there was). But the seating inside is very limited. Suggest you go early. I had high hopes for the "Eggs Royale" which is basically a Benny with salmon instead of ham. The fish was excellent, the eggs poached perfectly. The hollandaise sauce had a good flavor, but a little thick and not quite as runny as I usually like it. The latte was excellent. The orange juice was average. Service very quick and friendly. Overheard another table say "Thank you, that was the best breakfast I've had in a long time." Choose wisely. As far as the staff goes, the Dutch have definitely won the genetic lottery. Totally not fair.
It definitely gets busy here, so I'd recommend planning accordingly. We went close to when they opened and were seated immediately, and when we left there was a substantial line. The food was really good! I got the vegan butter "chicken" shakshuka and it was super tasty. The ultimate star of the show was their caramel latte. It was so smooth! Service was excellent, all of the staff was friendly. The bathroom was clean.
There were line ups every time I walked by but their service was quick so we didn't have to wait long when we went. There's indoor and outdoor seating that accommodated some pretty big groups. What caught my eye was their Sugarbread French toast and boy was it delicious. The portion is perfect as I think any more or bigger, it would be way too much.
Mortimer was my very first breakfast in Amsterdam and it did not disappoint. The quality of food and ingredients blew us away. The staff were all friendly and by the time we left there was a line of people waiting to dine. The ground floor had a couple of tables but if you go up the stairs they have about 4-5 more tables available.
Delicious brunch find on a whim. We knew this place would be good with a line out the door. We opted to eat outside (it was a nice brisk day so we didn't mind) and were seated quickly. Food is amazing and staff are attentive and friendly! I later learned that this place was founded by a Michelin experienced chef! What a gem of a place! If you're in Amsterdam, this place is a must!
I simply lack the words to describe how excellent this food is. The full English breakfast had so many levels of flavor - the tomato chutney had amazing salty, acidic, and sweet notes, the bacon and sausage were savory, the duxelles was a flavor explosion, the poached eggs were heavenly, and the sourdough was so good I got it again the next day!! The herb salad was the perfect palate cleanser - fresh and delicious. The Mortimer eggs are just amazing, and I highly recommend one get them with the sourdough! Service was fantastic. Everyone was so kind. The coffee was fresh and tasty! As an American traveler, this place was a true gem on my trip. Oh how I want to return to Amsterdam just to eat here!!
Everyone was all smiles as soon as I walked up. A tiny wait to be seated but not very long at all. I enjoyed a breakfast tea and fresh pressed orange juice. I'm luckily staying at the Kimpton Dewitt just a 3 minute walk. I will have to force myself to try other breakfasts at least once. I must come back a few more times during my week in Amsterdam! Ahéhee' for such delicious and fresh food!
This is a very popular spot for brunch and now I can see why. When we arrived there was a line so we decided to speed things up by taking the outside option. After going upstairs to use the bathroom and seeing the indoor space, I'm glad we chose to sit outside. Indoor seating was fine but the space was a little cramped and stuffy. The good was delicious!! We had the Eggs Benedict (yummy) and the yogurt bowl with a variety of unique fruit, granola, and lemongrass gel on the side. Service was outstanding.
10/10 HOMERUN, small casual breakfast spot with great menu and unique feel. Close to the train station and our hotel this was a place I would go every morning if I could. Best Eggs Benedict I've ever had as they do something special with the Hollandaise sauce. Scrambled eggs good and nice portion. Fresh squeezed orange juice.
I was really excited about this spot. The menu looked great and it brought forth a quaint, cafe getaway amidst the bustling city. I was excited to give this 5 . Once we stepped in, we weren't welcomed very warmly but got seated quickly and had great service from then on. PS. I've noticed a lot of places are like this in AMS. The food was good. Unfortunately, the dishes were cold when they got to us. I know it's cold here but that was a let down. Id still recommend you stop by and check it out!

Really enjoyed Mortimer and the usual wonderful hospitality that Amsterdam has to offer. The ceasar chicken sandwich was light and fresh, juices the same, I had some unripe avacado on my toast but a great spot to people watch on the main road and a solid choice for breakfast just don't assume the 5 star reviews mean an amazing meal just a pretty solid one which is totally ok. read more
Charming (I hate using this word, but it sounds good) eatery in the Nieuwezijds area. Almost every other cafe is still closed but this one opens early at 730am. It was busy and every table on the quaint (hate this overused word too) outside patio was occupied and two small tables inside. Basically, a snug 'standing room only' cafe. I ordered cappuccino for "take away" from the young female barista who was diligent at the espresso machine. While she was preparing my coffee, I noticed several bags of green and white coffee on the shelves bearing the Mortimer brand name. I asked her, "Was the coffee Italiano ? She said, "Sir, I told you to wait for your coffee"! Whoa, I was taken back for a second, then explained that I only wanted to know the coffee's origin. I stood to the side of the counter and the girl smiled and stated, "I think English beans, It's our brand of coffee". My anticipation for a wonderful cold early morning in Amsterdam just went limp and sadly never improved - This type of attitude is not the norm in Amsterdam which we experienced - but everyone has a bad day from time to time. My two cups of cappuccino were ready, which were oddly small for 4€ (see pic, and you decide). With a knee jerk reaction, I still tipped the girl, grabbed some sugar and coffee cup covers and left the shop. This brief interaction tainted my expectation of this cafe, especially in an area that is tourist heavy. At the end of the day, the cappuccino tasted good, the fresh bread loafs and croissants on the counter looked amazing and their breakfast menu looked promising, but told the wife we will find another cafe around the corner. read more

I had the full English twice during a short business trip to Amsterdam. I very much liked their much healthier interpretation of the dish - all components were of high quality and made from scratch. You won't be disappointed. I experienced great service both times as well. read more

My wife and I found this wonderful place by accident. The breakfast was so amazing. In fact we returned for 5 more days in a row and tried everything on the menu. Highly recommend the scrambled eggs, anything with hollandaise sauce, and avocado. The staff are wonderful, and expect a laid back experience. Sit and enjoy! read more

Had a most amazing breakfast, and brunch here. The scandinavian eggs where absolutely to die for and the coffee (what more do you need in the morning) was delicious. If you haven't got much time, they have coffee to go as well. Good for those early mornings. This is absolutely a new favorite! read more
