Bring a lunch because you'll be waiting a looooong time. I tried using the online chat with Emily, but the response time was terrible. I got an email confirming a 4 PM appointment, and Emily, the same person from the phone and chat, told me to bring Manny a GSD in. At 4 PM, they took us to a room where we spoke to a tech, who said someone would be with us shortly. She came back to look at him and asked if we wanted an X-ray for $175 (still no vet yet) or a physical from the doctor. We chose the physical, and she said the doctor would be in soon. By 5:21, she returned to apologize, saying there's only one doctor for 10 rooms. Can you say greed? We turned around and left. The waiting room still had 10 people trying to get into one of those rooms. I don't care how many doctors or rooms you have; that's your problem. If they told me to be there at 1 AM, I'd be on time. I'd heard good things in the past, which is why I chose this place, but now that they're in the big new building, their service is going downhill. Word will get around, just like in other reviews I've seen. Terrible service! read more

The dr wasnt sure how to proceed since his nasal bone was snapped off and looked like nasal tissue could be damaged so he'd probably need some kind of surgery. They give me a quote on how much itll be for overnight with 200 deposit and the rest is due tomorrow. A technician tells me theyll call around 8-9 for an update. Next morning comes and no call, I call at 950 for an update. Kitten is ok, eating and drinking and I will get a call later about the next step for his face. At 1120 im in town, swing by to pay for the overnight charge they said would be due today. Theres some confusion, i dont have to pay yet and shes quoting me a higher amount than they said the highest total would be last night. I talk to a technician and she shows me my kitten. They had gone ahead and removed the broken bone and she said the dr had just got in and would call me about what to do next. And I leave. I call again at 3 because no word from anyone. The receptionist says the dr just got in and she'll call me later. My boyfriend then calls them for answers. And about 30 minutes after he called them, they tell me to come pick up the kitten. I get up there, they charge me what they said they would last night, a technician visits me about the meds they gave him and explains they had tacked down part his nose skin and to bring him in for an update visit. After that long of having him, they send him home like this. I showed my mom and she told me he should be taken to the vet. Yes he should, just not this one. read more

So happy with our services here. This is not our regular vet but they squeezed us in since we are out of reach for our regular vet. All the workers were friendly, helpful, and efficient. They have lots of sample products around. I was able to ask about a lot of things I was wondering about with my older dogs. Great to see and ask at same time. Our visit was easy. We were seen to a room quickly. My assessment of needing x-ray was confirmed and done pretty quickly. The doctors assessment of our injury was really easy to understand. If he used a big word, he didn't mind explaining further so I understood as well. The in house pharmacy was very nice and explained what things were and why (if I needed it). For those that are unhappy and complaining , why don't you just go to a regular vet that charges exuberant fees after 5 PM or takes a month to make an appointment for your animal, maybe you would do better there? Absolute terrible visit. I took my dog there to get a wound looked at on his paw. I told the workers that I wasn't sure exactly what bit him, but he had two puncture wounds on his paw. I told them it might have been a spider or a snake bite. The worker told me the doctor was in surgery but that she would take my dog back to have him take a look at his paw. Not even 2 minutes later the worker returned and said "Yeah, it's probably just a spider or snake bite. Here's some painkillers, ointment, and let's get you checked out." Cut to the next day. I wasn't very satisfied with the doctors 2-minute diagnosis, so I went to a different vet clinic to get a second opinion. They had me drop off my dog and told me it the doctor would take a thorough look. They shaved the fur off the foot and found an another puncture wound and found a foxtail grass seed in one of his puncture holes. When I asked if there was a possibility of a snake or spider bite, they said "absolutely not." The second doctor took a thorough look, shave the area to properly observe the injury, came out to speak to me, and gave a proper run down. I don't know which Doctor "looked" at my dog, if there even was someone. All they did we feed back the very minimal information I gave them. If I hadn't gotten a second opinion, the foxtail seed would have just remained in my dogs paw and could have put him in higher risk of infection, pain, and discomfort. All because of a not-even 2-minute diagnosis from some doctor that couldn't bother to tell us themselves. TERRIBLE service here. Never take your animal here unless you want poor and unprofessional opinions. read more

First of all, let me mention, live in a city twice the size of Athens and we are NOT impressed with the operating hours of our veterinarians at home which is why Morton's deserves their first 5 stars! Open until 10 pm even on the weekends in a small city of 13000 - that's beyond impressive! Next, even as a new patient, we got a same day appointment for our 'emergency' on a Saturday afternoon! Then, we were impressed by how thorough the tech was taking down every detail of our issue and later the dr explaining every step of the treatment. To top it off, we did not even have to ask for copies of tests, diagnosis etc, I was automatically handed all that at the end of our visit! Did I mention, there was no wait at all....??!! I've taken my dogs to Morton's several times over the pasty couple years. However, I will NEVER take my fur babies back to this awful organization. My family and I were going on vacation and needed to board them for 2 weeks. I have a very energetic Rat Terrier and Chihuahua after being told to put my Rat Terrier in a large kennel they kept him in a small kennel meant for very small dogs for 2 weeks. He is naturally anxious however he has been boarded many times over the years and we have never had an issue. About a week into their stay we get a call saying he's "freaking out and bleeding". We were asked if we wanted to put him on anxiety medicine which we agree to. Upon arriving to pick them up we were told their charts were charged wrong and had to wait in the lobby for almost an hour. They finally bring out our babies and they look TERRIFIED!! My chihuahua can barely open her eyes from being petrified and my rat terrier can't help but cling to me. We opted out of bathes for them since I just wanted them home as soon as possible. However, my rat terrier has fecal matter all over his fur! When asked why we were told "he had diarrhea the first two days" so he has had feces on his fur for 12 days now! Along with them looking like they haven't eaten in days they not only dropped weight but looked like skin and bones. We also noticed many sores on my rat terriers paws and his nose. Again we were not let know of them matter until over a week after they arrived at the clinic. Save your money and your dogs well-being!! Go to any other vet but Morton's will never receive my business again. read more

Rescued a small kitty in the middle of the highway, his poor nose had got torn up some how and he was bleeding pretty bad. I picked him up called Morton's and a Doctor ended up meeting me there before they were even supposed to open which was so nice and great because I was pretty scared and new this sweet baby needed help ASAP! They did emergency surgery and kept him until he was stable and able to go to a different hospital closer to where I actually live. They were just so great through the whole thing. The Veterinary Clinic of Athens (formerly Morton Small Animal Clinic) is a great vet and we've been happy with their care of our pups. BUT, the grooming side of the practice is one I can not recommend. Over the last 2 years, my dogs look good and professionally groomed about 1/3 of the time. The other 2/3 is not good and looks as though they were groomed by someone who has never cut a dogs coat before. The last straw was today and I won't be back. I left my beautiful Havanese with very specific instructions to cut her hair about 1/2 it's length. In other words, leave it at least 1" long. I was shocked when I picked her up because they had COMPLETELY shaved her body. She looks terrible. Plus, the "shaving" was so poorly done that I had to cut tufts of hair where they had missed. Really? This was done by a professional groomer?? It will take at least 6 months for her to grow her beautiful coat back out. The most they could do for me was say they would make "notes" in her file to not shave her. Well, they can make all the notes they want, but I won't be back. If this was a one time or first incident, then I would just sigh and go on but I can no longer tolerate having a professional groomer only 1/3 of the time. My recommendation...don't use them at all!! You MAY have a good groom but the next time, you won't! read more

And if you go late in the evening they don't rob you like emergency vets, the charge is the same as going during 8-5. We make an 80 mile round trip drive to go to them!! Love them! read more

We have used Morton's for many years and we are satisfied with the vet services. The grooming side definitely dropped the ball when we took in our Yorkie yesterday. They kept her for 8 hours, called the wrong number when she was ready, burned her back, did not cut nails or hair on her feet. We called the Office Manager and was told maybe their grooming department wasn't for us, will not be using them again for our grooming needs. read more

I had been taking my dogs to Morton since I first moved to Athens, nearly ten years ago. Until recently I was very happy with all they had done for me and my fur babies. However, it seems they've gotten too big for the britches! Ever since they built the new building and hired additional vets their prices have become astronomical and the quality of their service has plummeted. I recently took a dog in for what appeared to be gastroenteritis. I had taken another dog in to them years ago for the very same thing and couldn't have been happier with their treatment then, but now was totally different. They ran almost $700 in tests though I repeatedly told them that it looked much like the previous case of gastroenteritis in my other dog. They would not listen and insisted on the tests. When they were done they admitted I'd been right all along but nevertheless recommended I spend an additional $1000 to leave the dog there overnight. I did NOT do that to her or to my pocketbook! I waited hours and spent far too much money to find out what I already knew and the only benefit was that I could now get the meds the poor dog needed soo badly. She recovered at home and is now alive and well but I will not be bringing her or any other dog to this office again! I'd rather have an old office with caring people and reasonable prices than this new flashy clinic with poor service at outrageous prices. Ask yourself... does my animal care how fancy the office is, or is it more important to give them kind and reasonable service? My dog is usually afraid of new people but he was very comfortable with the desk staff and the vet both. When I had a question the vet called and answered all my questions very patiently. The vet we had in Frisco was awesome and we knew was going to be tough to beat. We found Morton's based on recommendations here on Yelp and it was the best decision we could have possibly made. Over the past couple of years, Dr. Morton & his staff have taken care of our two elder Bichons through multiple issues & illnesses as well as our 6 mo. old Coton de Tulear. In every case what really stands out is the care & professionalism they have displayed with each encounter. Dr. Morton really takes time with each patient & their owners explaining what's going on, treatment options, etc. He has a really gentle bedside manner that immediately puts you at ease. His staff is friendly, very supportive, & professional as well. We are from out of town and drove 45 minutes to get to the only vet opened till 10pm. We were a little desperate and I am thankful we found this clinic! I will certainly be switching vets. I've been using Morton for about a year and a half, and it's always a little disappointing when we go in. There's only one lady who works there who just generally has a bad attitude. We brought a puppy in and said we thought something was wrong because she constantly itched(we all know that constantly itching isnt a good thing). And he just told us "she might just be an itchy pup" And a year later the same down is still itching so much that she has a rash. We give our dogs vaccines from Tractor Supply, and when we told the lady mentioned above, she got really moody and snappy with us, saying that she CANT take our word for it, that SHE needs records. But when we mentioned it to the nurse, she took our word and understood wonderfully. The lady i'm talking about just has a bad attitude, and i'm not sure if she's trying to do that, or what. But since we started going there she's had a generally awful attitude towards us. She made us wait about 30-45 minutes with my kitten who was dying, to check someone else out, and make me fill out a bunch of paperwork. The cat was DYING, and she was more concerned with making me fill out the pets info to put her in the system, when I had to just take her right back out of the system. We also had three different accounts, and we went in to buy Trifexis for our dogs. She gave us a pill without us paying for it, and when we noticed,my boyfriend went inside to pay for it. She again had a bad attitude, getting ready to go get another pill. He then told her nono, she gave us a pill and he was there to pay for it. Her mood instantly turned around since he was giving her money. The nurses are generally really sweet and nice to talk to, and seem to actually have concerns about our pets. As well as the doctors. But this lady just ruins the place for us. read more

This place is wonderful! I live in Dallas but was spending New Year's Eve at a friends lake house on cedar creek lake when the unexpected happened! My beloved furry friend aka my child swallowed a fish hook covered in raw bacon. We quickly sprang into action calling all of the nearest vets all turned us away except for Morton's! They were incredibly friendly with impeccable customer service. They were informative, quick to react and helped to keep me and my dog calm. They let me hold my little man while giving him the anesthesia shot hit the vain and he was out in minutes ready for the X-rays. But what really made Morton's a truly exceptional veterinary clinic was what Morton senior did next. Our dog had swallowed the hook all the way down to his stomach. It was looking like he would need surgery to get it out. But before they cut open my little guy Morton senior tried "an old man's trick" first. He got the hook out! No surgery, no fancy equipment necessary. My dog was 100% back to normal the next day. They gave us pain pills but he didn't need any. Morton's really saved the day, saved my entire trip and I will be forever grateful. I would make this place my permanent vet if he lived a little closer. read more

Had an outdoor neighborhood kitten with a bad leg/foot. Even though he was not my cat, he was hobbling around on 3 legs. He was not going to outrun any coyotes. Live in Tool (Cedar Creek Lake) area and tried some of the local vets on Friday afternoon. All were closing and wouldn't be open until Monday. Morton said they could see him Sat. AM. I was VERY impressed by the whole operation. I like the separate cat and dog doors, good idea. The front desk ladies were very nice along with the nurse (is that the word?) and Dr. Morton, younger. Were very compassionate, and took the time to explain things. This was not a life and death case (unless the coyote caught you), but they seemed interested in my little buddy. So thankful for this clinic. We were in the area visiting my parents on Saturday when my puppy became acutely ill. We were clueless as to what was wrong. She looked like she had been poisoned. Although, there was no magic diagnosis or cure, I felt better that we found a vet open on Memorial Day weekend. After realizing that my older dog was sick too, I believe that both of my dogs were exposed to some kind of toxin (fertilizer, pesticide, fuels) at a gas station in Henderson on the night before where we had walked them for about 20 minutes. I can't prove it - but I'm here to advise - if the grass looks too bad or too good, don't walk your dogs there! This grass looked near death, extremely short, no weeds, no bugs, and no ants - obviously, this is Texas and that ain't right. read more

Needless to say, we were shocked! They scheduled surgery the same week repaired first ACL - took about 3 months but our furry baby is doing great! I don't understand how anyone can say anything bad about this place. The doctors are extremely knowledgeable, the nurses are sweet as can be, and the reception is always warm and inviting. We started using Morton's about five years ago. At that time I worked in Dallas during the week and stayed at our house in Athens on the weekend. After my first visit, I went well out of my way to make sure all vet services were rendered in Athens at Morton's. I have three dogs and we tried multiple vets in Dallas and the surrounding metroplex and none hold a candle. The prices are more than reasonable and they have a number you can call after hours that either gets answered right away, or you promptly get a call back. I even called at 3 am on a Saturday and was asked to send pics of the issue via text. I could go on and on with positive experiences. To be fair, the worst thing that has happened a time or two has been toenail mishaps when my oldest dog has been taken in for grooming. However, I was given a free bath for my "inconvenience." Thankfully, we've been fortunate not to have to use it, but I've even heard them extend payment options for services rendered. The 50+ times I've been in there, I have never seen anyone leave upset based on the service. The majority of these reviews reflect the true experience. Don't let one bad apple ruin the bunch. read more

We drive all the way from Houston to see Dr. Morton Sr. We have had 1 of our dogs for 4 years and he is the only vet to come up with a solution to his allergies. Had a 9am appointment to get my dog's teeth cleaned. Since we were already going to be in Athens, we thought we'd take both dogs to get their heart-worm blood work done, so I could get a prescription written to 1800PetMeds. Both dogs were tested, and negative. We took the male dog, and left our female for her teeth cleaning (9am appointment, got them there at 8:30am). By 1:30 in the afternoon, we got concerned because we hadn't been called, so my wife called and was informed that the dog was "still in the que" to have her teeth cleaned. This was unacceptable, so we went to the clinic to pick her up. Upon arrival, we were told we couldn't take her because she had been sedated. I asked if that meant she was next, but was told no...it could be by end of day that they would get to her. I said to give her an injection to reverse the sedation, I paid the bill and said I wouldn't return. The next day, 1800PetMeds contacted me (by phone and by email) to say the clinic said they have "no record" of either me or my dogs being clients. I called Morton's and spoke with Sarah who assured me it must have been a mistake, and that the record was there and she would make sure when 1800PetMeds called or faxed, they would give them the information. 24 hours later I get an email from 1800PetMeds stating that their pharmacist was told by Morton Animal Clinic that me and/or my dogs were no longer welcome at the clinic, and that they (Morton's) would NOT write a prescription for the needed heart worm meds. Needless to say, I am disputing the charge with my credit card company to get it reversed, and had to find another Veterinarian to re-test my dogs for heart worms Do yourselves a favor, avoid this clinic at all costs! I am so thankful for Dr. Morton and everything he did for us Saturday night! We are from Houston but were staying at our property up in Elkhart,TX. It was about 10:30pm on a Saturday, we had been outside just talking and preparing for bed. Not soon after we here Hank, our 4 month old Lab mix hollering in pain. We rushed over to aid him and found that he has broken his front right leg. We were trying to secure the leg with what we had, which was some wood and medical tape. I was frantically calling all the vets I could, which was the total of 6. Dr. Morton was the only one who answered and said he could help. We drove all the way from Elkhart to Athens to help our poor Hank. Dr. Morton saw us in and gave Hank some pain medicine, which has Hank feeling pretty good rather quickly. Next, he had x-rays done and we were given the options for what we could do. We chose the cheaper option due to not being able to do surgery at that moment and being from Houston. We are so glad we were able to find such a wonderful vet office and the next time we are visiting our property we will take a trip to visit Dr. Morton. Thank you again! read more
