Above and beyond! I took my dog there because my regular vet was closed. My guy was lethargic and not himself. Turns out he was running a fever and of course it was Friday. Dr Barlow gave him IV antibiotics and suggested I leave him hospitalized. On Saturday he was doing a bit better and Dr Barlow suggested he stay the weekend to continue treatment. But not in a cage at the office, but she TOOK HIM HOME so he would be more comfortable in a home environment and with her three dogs. Wow! That's dedication and compassion. I'm so glad they were open and available for my fur baby when I needed help. read more

I really did not want to leave this review; but if it can save others the awful experience I have had, I will. I brought my dog in for abnormally fast breathing. Dr Barlow stated it was from his teeth and didn't run test. I took that as great news. She sent me home with antibiotics and got him set up for a teeth cleaning. The antibiotics ran out before the teeth cleaning so I called in some more because I didn't want any infection to spread (if there was one) but.. why wouldn't she have done that? I was getting close to the scheduled teething cleaning, and I was still worried because my dog's breathing was STILL SO fast. I didn't want him to die from anesthesia, so I called and they told me to bring him in. I bring him in for pre surgical test (his levels are normal) and an xray where she said he my have bronchitis or the human equivalent of asthma, tested him for heart worms (negative). They l gave him a histamine based med before his teeth cleaning on Wednesday because that should help with the breathing. I take him and my other dog in (she was getting spayed, we will get more into that later) and I drop them off. She calls me and is NOW worried about his breathing, (what I originally came in for.) she asks me to send his X-rays to a specialist.. so of course I do. She comes back saying my dog has fibrosis in both lungs. At that point I black out and she says something about his trachea. I am physically, emotionally, and mentally drained at this point. In tears for days. My mom tells me to go get a second opinion, so I did. THEY SAW NONE OF THIS. So I am not only down $500 or so (they did refund me my visit fees) but back at square ONE of his issues. Nightmare, but at least my dog doesn't have a death sentence. Now to my sweet girl who went to get spayed. Everything seems to have gone well. She just let me know there may be some bumps at the ends of the incision and that would be normals. My dog wore a recovery suit constantly (except for washing and she had her cone on). She is still young and active so she did run around a bit. She seemed to be healing, but slowly and the two bumps at the end of the incision would not go away. I sent pics because I started to get worried. The incision itself looked fine (other than the bumps she said would be normal). I asked to have a post op follow up because it was directly from the spay.. the receptionist on the phone stated the vet said since it was three weeks out it wasn't related. Ya. Okay. All confidence is lost at this point. Decided I didn't not want to deal with them anymore; lack of accountability is wild. I go to the new vet I took my other dog to, and yes, it was infected internally. We got on some high dose antibiotics and she is fine. I am now going BACK to my new vet because the dissolving stitches are NOT resolving and the incision scar is lumpy. I will update from that appointment, but PLEASE save yourself the heartache, stress and money and go to another vet. They may be "affordable but it is not worth what seems to be cost savings. (I am now paying much more to get proper diagnosis and healing for my dogs.) The office manager was great, one of the receptionist was kind. The other seemed to hate her job, people, and pets. For Dr Barlow. Take responsibility for your work, admit when you cannot help. And listen to your patients rather than dismissing their VALID concerns. Veterinary medical center of Athens is not far, go there and save pet as well as your heart and wallet the pain. read more

Out. Standing. The Athens Animal Clinic staff outdo themselves every single time. I've taken my dog, Yasha, there for regular checkups, skin tag removal surgery, dental, and nail clipping services. Each time I'm impressed by them, in every way. We always get to talk to a Veterinarian during check-ups, the prices are reasonable, and they always go out of their way to help us and figure out what's wrong with my baby. We just had the most caring experience. My son, with special needs, had to put his cat down this morning. He and the fur baby have been inseparable for over 10 years. I had heard good things about these folks, however when I had to bring in my ailing dog to have her put down and came in before they had closed I was told the Vets had already left and always did an hour before closing. It left me in an impossible position! I had already had to make the hard decision to put my beloved dog down and now I had nowhere to go though they were open. Finally I was told to go to another vet's office that closed in only 10 mins from then and when I arrived they couldn't have been kinder and more helpful even though it was well after hours before the procedure was complete. This is the best small animal practice in town, and maybe even in East Texas. The staff is the friendliest from front office to vet technicians, bar none. The four veterinarians are knowledgeable, considerate, and available to answer questions, provide advice, and support both owners and their fur babies. Boarding services are available as is doggy daycare. We won't take our babies anywhere else. read more

I took my fur child in; she was so sick. I knew when I walked in, I was going to be paying big bucks, but it was my child, and they were highly recommended. The Doctor's did an excellent job however my huge concern was her before and after surgery care. I went to visit her before her surgery and they brought her to me with dried vomit all over her eye, face and neck. When I questioned them about it, the girl gave me a lame excuse. Saying it was due to feeding her. "I know what vomit looks like" and just how long was she laying in vomit to be dried on her face like that! She had her surgery and I went to pick her up. They brought her out wet and she was freezing. I asked them where her carrier and blanket were, as they went off looking for it my child was shaking uncontrollably. I had to take off my sweatshirt to keep her warm. AND she still had dried vomit on her face a neck. They finally found the carrier, handed it to me along with her meds, a bag with a fluid bag, lines and needles telling me to put it in her neck. OMG!!!! There I was holding her, the carrier, bag full of medical stuff and no one bothered to even help me out the door. I didn't catch that girls name that checked me out, but she needs to stay away from animals, doesn't care for them at all. Oh, and let me complete my review with a bill of $2800 + they charged me. read more

Took my seriously ill cat into the clinic. He had a 105.3 fever. Later I found out that a cat with 106 fever should be hospitalized. Dr. Barlow told me "we have to eliminate this or that". By the time she finished 'eliminating' I was out $442.00! She ended up giving my cat a steroid and antibiotic shot. She said "feed him anything he wants to eat". I had told her he hadn't eaten in over two days! When I got him home he went rigid and almost died. I had to give him CPR. My wife sat up two full nights feeding him water with an eye dropper. When I called the clinic to tell them what happened--they never called me back, never seemed to care or apologize for their poor medical treatment. I feel I was 'milked' for a big pay-off and they didn't help my cat at all. He almost died. Will never go back. read more

I can't say enough good things about this Vet. Every time we have been here, the people that work there have been extraordinary. I love my cat (Box) and They always treat him as if he were their own. Like most cats, he can be very temperamental around strangers, and it never seems to bother them when he's stressed out and irritated. I originally went to a different vet in town and I left in tears because they gave me almost no hope of him surviving more than seven days. I went to the Athens animal clinic for a second opinion desperately hoping for better news, and even though he was very sick, they were very understanding and compassionate while treating him, Ran appropriate test, and got him on the path to recovering quickly. They always get us straight into a room quickly for follow ups and are always so kind and polite. They even went as far as cutting all of his prescription medicines in half before sending them home. Couldn't ask for better people to take care of my Box. Would recommend this place to everyone read more

We have been going to this clinic since September of 2017. We loved it there. It was a bit pricey but everyone was so friendly and they always remembered us and our pets and were always excited to see our pets. more importantly they seemed to actually care about our pets and their well being. We have two dogs, two cats, and a porch cat. We used to have a third cat but she passed away a couple of years ago. We take our pets for their regular twice yearly appointments, plus anytime they have had any issue or gotten hurt. We take our pets health seriously. We always take them to Athens animal clinic and have always fully recommended them every chance we got. Over the last year there have been several changes with the front office staff and they are much less competent, friendly and hardly seem excited to see our pets or show any kind of warm welcome. One of our dogs has extreme anxiety and needs medication. We recently got a prescription for him from the vet and for 10 pills it was $80. It was too much and not practical. when we were close to running out, I looked online at chewy and I could get 30 pills for less than $6. I put in an order but it requires a prescription and approval from the vet. They reached out to our vet for the approval and the vet declined. The clinic called me and told me they could price match so I requested it and they were supposed to let me know when the price match was approved by the doctor. The next day, they called my husband and left a voicemail stating that chewy didn't carry the medication (they do) and that they checked with 1800 pet meds for a price and stated that their price was cheaper then 1800 pet meds. I called back to find out what the confusion was. I was told that they do not approve for online pharmacies and that they would only price match with 1800 pet meds and that Athens animal clinic was cheaper or around the same price so we might as well just buy from them. I told her I would have to call back and let them know what we decided. I then looked up the price on 1800 pet meds and it was just a cheap as chewy. They straight up lied to me multiple times all for the sake of money even though we have spent probably thousands of dollars at their clinic over that last five years. They no longer seem to care about my pets or their health only their profit margin. read more

This clinic has been so good with our animals! We have used Dr Liz since she came to Athens and she is so loving and kind to all of our animals. We have used them for shots, grooming, surgical procedures and even euthanizing . Everyone here has comforted us and been very discreet and caring through our tears. This is a new clinic for us, having relocated here a few years ago and just recently adopted a rescue puppy. It is by far the best clinic I have used with any of our dogs! Staff is great, and the day care option is a life saver when you need it. Rates are reasonable. Always smells clean-which is a nice change from other clinics. When our puppy was not feeling well, they got him right in and even followed up to make sure he was doing ok after getting him home. Dr. Jessica Barlow is the BEST and loved on him as if he were her own puppy! You really cannot ask for a better vet or clinic! read more
