Review - Motel 6, Percival IA
First of all, let me say that this motel is one of the nicest places that I stayed on my 13 day trip a few weeks ago. I stayed there on Tuesday Evening, October 26, 2021. Unfortunately, I didn't even think to take pictures, so instead I looked at the pictures that others had taken and some of them were dead on. The others; however, looked nothing like the motel I stayed in.
This motel has definitely been updated since the flood. Last year, I could NOT stay there because they were remodeling. I have no idea what the 2nd floor looks like, but the ground floor is really nice. The rooms on the ground floor have large black refrigerators, NOT teeny tiny ones like the ones in most hotel and motel rooms. This frig was huge for a motel room. If I had been staying for 3 or 4 days like I did last year, this frig would have been great for all my food and drinks!!!
The hotel was very quiet. The TV was large. The beds were big and comfortable. The room I stayed in was very nice and quite large. I was thankful that it was clean, and looked and smelled nice. Absolutely, NO smoke smell. My room had one of those fancy sinks that sits over the top of the cabinet. If you look, you'll see it and that big frig in some of the pics.
I was somewhat surprised to see that they had turned the Swimming Area into a Recreation Room with a Pool Table, and Sitting Area with a large TV. I think in the future they may regret that decision. Many of the hotels that I visited had their pools open. Some didn't!!! Just a side note for the Hotel Owners and Management, Chlorine is a chemical that kills almost any germ, and I think that would definitely include COVID!!!
I didn't have a reservation, but the lady at the front desk was super nice!!! She was kind and sweet. She made my stay pleasant. The price was very nice, too!! I had no problems at all until I got ready for bed. That's when my legs began to itch. However, after I had been in bed a while, the itching stopped for the most part.
Unfortunately, after I got out of bed the next morning, my legs began itching again. All I could figure was that something had bitten me on my legs. They looked pock marked, and they itched.
So, before doing anything else that morning, I went to the front desk. I spoke with the manager for a few minutes to tell him that the room needed spraying for bugs. (I really thought I had been bitten by something.)
The manager (who was in charge of the front desk) said that I was having an allergic reaction to the chemicals that they had sprayed on the wooden platform that the mattress in my room set upon. I was stunned!!! You can see the beds with this platform, and the large frig in one or more of the pics that have been posted by other guests.
They had sprayed each of the wooden bedsteads or platforms in each room with some kind of chemical, and they didn't have a bed skirt over the top of that wooden platform.
He explained to me, that every time I got in and out of the bed, I was sliding my legs over the wooden platform and my legs were coming in contact with the chemicals that they had sprayed on the wood. From what I was told, they had already had someone else who had had an allergic reaction to that same chemical, and that's how he knew what had happened to me.
He told me that they had called the chemical company to ask what they should do. The chemical company told them to dilute that chemical, but because it would reduce the effectiveness of the chemical, they had decided NOT to dilute it. From what I was told, they have no plans to change what they are doing.
As you can understand, if you or your child has ever had an allergic reaction, this is NOT acceptable!!! The manager offered his apologies, but didn't even offer to allow me to use the laundry for FREE, so I could wash my clothes to get rid of the chemical.
When I asked for some bleach to wash their chemical off my legs, that was NOT even an option. It might harm me!!! Are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have already harmed me. The bleach would only have killed the chemical completely which I could NOT be sure that my soap would do. So, guess what will always be packed in my overnight bag from now on when I travel?
Yes, you guessed it, bleach!!! And just to be clear, my soap did NOT kill the chemical, so my legs were still itching when I left the hotel. Thankfully, after I contacted a friend, and we prayed, they finally stopped itching.
What is even worse, the hotel manager didn't offer to comp my room!!! I have stayed in many hotels over the years, and if there is a problem, they normally either offer you a complete refund (when it's one night) or at least a credit because of the issue.
I was so angered by this incident that I couldn't see and even think straight!!! When the manager did NOT even offer to issue me a credit, I told him that the least he could do was credit me back $20.00. He did credit my card for $20.00. If I had read more
