I went out to my car for a dress since I stayed in this place because it was near an event where I attended, and 3 men approached me to ask for a price I felt a feeling of terror and I asked a girl for help and she just threatened me that that was her area and that I could not work here. This place has roaches, I told the front desk about the roaches. He told me he's gonna have someone come by and have them spray the roaches with bug spray. I guess they don't have any idea that bug spray is poisonous and bad for your health, specially spraying it in small closed areas. The hotel room walls have snots (boogers) and weird looking stains everywhere. This place unsanitary. I called the front desk the second time regarding the roaches and the stains. They responded by saying," Do you want room service." I was like yes do something. Dude doesn't know what to do. If I could give it a negative stars I would. Also seemed like a drug dealer was staying there when we were there and a couple prostitutes were hanging around too. Not an ideal place to be for most folks. Not bad at all!! It's actually quite decent for a Motel 6. For me, I actually never stay at Motel 6, but this was the cheapest, and available to stay at, in the area, knowing I was going to be out late at an event nearby. Definitely, a place to stay for only one night, not more than that. Everything that you need. Shower, sink, an area to hang your jacket/other clothes, a desk, tv. I was actually most impressed with the air conditioning. I really didn't think the room would have one. Lol The bathroom was really clean. The floors were even clean; no dirt on my feet. The sheets/pillows were clean. What more do you need for one night? I agree with everyone's reviews though, the beds are pretty hard. Anyway, I gave it 4 stars, because, like I said it's a decent place to stay at for one night. Also, because the vending machine was out of water, and wasn't sure if they check it periodically. It was definitely 80°+ during that time I was staying there. So, we ran to the nearest gas station to pick up some smart waters, to help for the night. Also, the parking lot really sucks. Even for a Motel 6 this place is trash. Something always doesn't work in any given room and the desk people are zero help. I understand this was basically a homeless shelter at the height of the pandemic but you have paying customers again. I booked into the room. It was O.K the furniture reminded me of the Brady Bunch. Didn't have any warm fuzzy feeling in there, kind of cold and O.K I guess it will do. I decided to take a walk around San Rafael.... When I got back to the hotel, I opened my room door and there was a man standing there in a towel I was like WTF :( I said what are you doing in my room? He looked confused and asked if this was my phone (I had left it in there charging) I went to the motel office telling them there was a man in my room...... they had double booked the same room. I made a reservation in January at the 737 Francisco Blvd. Motel 6 in San Rafael, CA and was unable to come due to me testing positive for COVID. I called the front desk to let them know and was informed I would be charged the full price since it was too late to rent the room to someone else (it was 7pm at night but ok). I understood and agreed and was charged the full amount. No problem. Fast forward to September 13th. I reserved a room again and the day of check in, my room was canceled with no call being made to me which left me temporarily stranded until i found another room last minute. I asked what the issue was and was informed I was placed on a Do Not Rent list but no one had a reason why and only the manager could address it, so my guess is I'm being punished for having COVID and not showing up to spread it even though I communicated to the front desk and paid full price for the room. I've been trying to reach a manager since September 13th but the front desk staff always say he's not at work and to call another time.. I've also escalated my experience to customer care and haven't received a response from anyone at Motel 6 even though the customer care representative said that I would on more than 1 occasion. I called the site today, as instructed by the last front desk clerk I spoke with previously, and was told by a male front desk clerk, "I'm not telling my manager anything about your call. Stop calling us. We don't owe you an explanation and you're not welcomed here. Find somewhere else to stay." Then he hung up in my face. I've stayed at this location several times over the last 3 years with no incident because of the convenience, and I have NEVER experienced the rudeness, disregard, and disrespect that I endured today. All because I wanted a definitive reason why I was placed on their Do Not Rent list. I'm going to take my business elsewhere like the Motel 6 staff instructed, and you should too. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. There were lots of shady people hanging out in the parking lot when we pulled in around 12:30 AM. I rang the bell at the night window and the clerk took several minutes to respond, he was obviously sleeping. I checked in and received the key and went to our room. The room was filthy, smelled bad and there was no security latch on the door. I tried calling the front desk but there was no answer. So I went back up to the front and had the clerk change my room. We went to the new room and it was in the same condition filthy and no security latch. When we left the second room there was a security guard with an attitude that tried to block me using his SUV. I asked him to move and he refused. When I asked him for his name and identification number as per California law he refused. He then asked me if I was a guest and I told him we were. He still refused to move his SUV, but I was able to slowly go around him. He followed me back up to the front and started yelling at me to leave the property. I was trying to get a refund as he kept yelling at me and threatened to call the police. A security guard's job is to "observe and report", not to escalate the situation. As I was walking back to my car he pulled out his pepper spray and told me not to approach him. I informed him that I was going back to my car and if he peppered sprayed me, I'd have his job. He then took off his glued on cloth badge and literally threw it at me. I picked up the badge and threw it into the street. I never got closer than 20-25 feet. We then proceeded to drive off as it was late, and I was tired. read more

A convenient, relatively inexpensive place to sleep. The reception clerk Sam was courteous and efficient. The room was Spartan as usual for Motel 6, clean and well maintained. It was more spacious than most Motel 6's. There was a mini fridge, microwave and good satellite TV. Parking next the rooms is a little tight, but there's an overflow lot next door. It's on the freeway frontage road. The room was reasonably quiet but not dead silent; I slept soundly. The exterior lighting is quite bright and seems to be on all night; the blackout curtain kept the room pretty dark but not entirely. read more

This place is an absolute DUMP. Do NOT stay here if you're alone and female. I stayed here with my fiancée and we didn't even want to leave the room at night because of all the homeless hanging around the property. Not to mention, a man sitting in the stairwell in the morning grabbed my leg as I was passing by and said something so nasty/inappropriate I don't even think I can put it on here. I read on another review that they're using this location to house homeless people. I don't expect luxury when staying at motel 6. I was expecting a loud, dirty room but neither was true. It was very clean. I'm a light sleeper and I did not wake up once throughout the night. My room was located on the bottom (104) where you would think all the noise would be but it was not the case. We got a room here because the price is $140 for the night and we have four adults and one kid. We got a room with three beds. It was an updated motel 6 which is good. The following is the pros and cons of this place. PROS: Great for spending one night. Tv in room Clean towels and linen Cheap price near San Francisco CONS: Walls are thin The people who stay here are really not the good kind, there was a fight in the middle of the night next door or somewhere. It seemed some people stayed here long term and were just like hanging out PARKING is terrible!!! The price is $140 to stay here and you can't even park your vehicle. There's signs to park somewhere else but it'll be towed by 6AM or 10AM depending where you park. I didn't even get a parking pass and when I asked for one the person was too tired to even respond. So in conclusion make sure it's like a one night stay. That's all it's good for here. read more

I am kind of so-so with this place. The pros are : safe, pet friendly ( with small area for release;)), clean and super close to the Golden Gate Bridge . Negative : Hard to find parking if arriving late, renovated but they did a terrible job on that. Can tell that the mess is covered up, instead taking off the old mess first. Paid $160 for one nite and don't eve have shampoo in the rooms, only a tiny soap. I would stay here again, but also would do some research before booking the place. read more

I have been evacuated from Sonoma County due to wildfires and this was the only motel with a room left. When I explained that I had multiple pets, they responded "We take anything." This is my 4th night in a room with 5 cats, 2 big dogs and a talking parrot. Another lodger has 5 dogs, 3 cats, 4 chickens and a bearded dragon. We have been treated with the utmost kindness and respect by all employees. We have a refrigerator and microwave in our room and a great bathtub. Internet is free and TV is available. Any issues with the rooms and environment are so minor compared to their generosity and welcoming attitude. I am so so grateful to these people. read more

If i could rate this place a negative 150 i would in a heart beat. Let me start by saying if you are a woman, do not go to this hotel, the people that stay here mostly are tricks and prostitutes. My boyfriend booked a stay here and told the front desk that i'd be joining him one of the two nights at least, i get to the room and it seems just fine, at night i was alone in the room for most of the time because my man had to go to work, i walked out of the room to walk my dog and have a cigarette and there were two men standing right outside of my room they cat called me and followed me down to the grass area and circled the area. I went back to the room and sat in the corner. Then, there were a series of knocks on my window and calls through the window even though i had it locked and closed. The morning following, i went to open the window to let some air in and the screen completely fell off, as i walked to find a maintenance person i came across a housecleaning lady who proceeded to tell me all the windows are falling off because homeless people break into the rooms-great. I took a look for myself, when you look at the windows closely, all the damn screens are easy to take off! The three window screens directly next to my room were all falling off. This is unacceptable! Upon check out, i went to tell the fronk desk dude what had happened, he showed no type of understanding or sympathy, he instead proceeded to victim blame and ask me what i did. He said he'd get the maintenance man to "fix" the window and that there was nothing else he could do for me and i'd have to leave. He refused to give my boyfriend a refund of any type and didn't offer any type of resolution even after telling him that ive been raped and assaulted and having broken windows is completely unacceptable, especially given the fact that i was being harassed and followed and alone. HHe threatened to call the police on us and put us on the "do not rent" list as if we would even THINK about ever staying here again. Overall, a nice quiet place to say. Hotel room reviews are always all over the place. Why? Because everyone has their own comfort level, whether it's bed, pillows, towels, what's clean, what's not clean, etc. It's totally subjective. From the outside this place is a little run down, I'll say that. The rooms weren't half bad though, large room, with fridge and microwave. WIFI. The staff seemed fine and who needs a phone nowadays anyway?! Use your cell! Parking is a bitch, you basically have to reverse you're way out. So if you drive a huge SUV, beware. I don't know about the bad reviewers experiences, but as someone who has stayed at this particular location over 25 nights in the past 4 months, I feel that my opinion should be taken somewhat seriously. Checking in: the guy who is normally here in the afternoons is polite and accommodating, and remembers who you are if you're returning. I have never had a single issue with getting a room or getting what I needed. Nothing shady here. Parking: is a little tight, but there is an auxiliary parking area behind the gym next door. Side note: the main lobby is also a consignment furniture store during the day, which is a little weird, but has no impact on the motel. Rooms: this place has been modernized, but is an older complex. The roof was recently replaced (they were working on it this past June during the daytime). This obviously is not originally an M6, but was some other motel before. This is a GOOD thing, because the rooms are larger than the average M6, has a microwave and mini fridge, and has Dish network (read that as MORE and BETTER channels than most other locations). The rooms are always clean and out of the 9 different rooms I've had, only one had any kind of odor (which wasn't awful, just noticeable when you walk in). The FREE wifi works well also, and is faster than most M6 locations in the Bay area. There is a centrally located ice machine and vending between the buildings, near the "pet relief" area. Conclusion: it's a Motel 6, not the Ritz. Don't come here expecting luxury. Instead, expect a decent room with basic amenities that will suit the average traveler on a budget. No bedbugs. Fairly quiet clientele (aside from a few random noisy people here and there, which you will encounter just about anywhere). read more

I'm a photographer who travels a LOT for business and leisure, and I stay at a LOT of budget motels. After staying in dozens of "affordable" motels, I finally went to Motel 6. I've liked most of them, but this one has been the best so far. I had no problems with my reservation/booking, my check-in was fast and hassle-free, and the desk clerk greeted me with kindness. They accommodated my last-minute request for a smoking room at no extra cost, and were more than happy to allow my cat. When I got to my room, I was surprised (more like SHOCKED!) at how clean it was. It smelled like bleach, which to me, is good. There wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. Tub, toilet and sink were spotless, the sheets were fresh and crisp. Not one stain on the bed covers or linens. Plenty of fresh towels and soap. The TV works and has great cable (most basic channels and 5 channels of HBO), great internet speed (which is FREE!! Yay!), and even came with a fridge and microwave (not in the brochure), so I was happily surprised about that. The air-conditioner/heater works, all the outlets work, and the water pressure in the shower is superb. This is truly the best Motel 6 I have ever stayed in, and I am so thrilled with the cleanliness and service that I am going to extend my stay. I'll definitely be coming back here again and again when I come up here to work in San Rafael. Highly recommend! read more

Motel 6 in San Rafael I stayed in a handicap room with two queen beds. The room was sparsely furnished. There was no dresser, only one chair, and no table. There was a small armoire with a few hangers to hang clothes. A fridge and microwave. The floors were some kind of fake hardwood flooring that you could tell was separating from the floor. It popped and creaked as you walked across the floor. The bathroom wasn't too bad. The biggest reason I like using a Motel 6 is they are extremely pet friendly. No extra charges and welcome in ANY room anytime. read more

For being a motel 6, I would say this has not been too shabby. The desk staff were efficient and professional. The only thing I might suggest for future guests are that the ground room ceilings may be thin and creaky. I was phoned by front desk the following morning that I was making a ruckus when the activities I was doing were 1) plopping on the bed 2) walking from bed to bathroom and 3) I did check in at 3am, unfortunately I was quite tired so I did drag my carry on at that time. Also, during the night, I did see a police suv drive thru the parking lot. This may be seen as two ways 1) it's safe because a police suv was patrolling the parking lot, or 2) maybe it's a shady place because they were patrolling? Leave it up to your interpretation. The parking lot gets packed at night, so I had to park in adjacent business parking lot which wasn't a big deal to me. If you do end up parking next door, be sure to move it by 10am otherwise per parking permit note, the business may tow your car. The housekeeping staff were friendly and I understand that they are quite busy so they have to be efficient in stripping the beds, but they were quite friendly. Thus, I'll give this place a 4 star. There's dead baby roaches in the freezer portion of refrigerator which lets me know they haven't cleaned it. And we're not sure if this room was a crime scene lol.. there looks like blood splatter on the walls and on the curtain in the sleeping area. There are also blood spatters in the bathroom. They probably tried their best to clean it but missed some spots. The floor is very unstable and makes noises when you walk on it. The bed also makes noises when you move . We slept on top of the covers because we were too afraid to get under them. The rm number was 112 I believe. It's the room that is straight down the driveway all the way to the back, with a parking spot dead smack in front of the door. It's definitely it worth the price. Spend a few extra dollars to be comfortable somewhere else. read more

San Rafael is an expensive and upscale community, so of course anything at this price is appealing. But you get what you pay for. The room was fine, no complaints there. But the neighborhood was so scary that I was afraid to walk my dog at night. The guests seemed to be primarily low life types, smoking and arguing with with each other all night long, and the property is run down and dirty. The only place for the dog to pee is a filthy piece of astro turf, and one night when I was walking the dog, a cop drove through the parking lot on his routine rounds. He told me not to go out at night because the neighborhood is dangerous (not that there's anywhere to go... nothing but a bunch of warehouses and a couple of furniture stores). And the parking lot is ridiculous. The cars are packed together so tightly that it's a miracle if you don't hit someone, and the only way to get out is to BACK OUT! It's really a creepy place. It's worth an extra $30 a night to choose a better motel in a better environment. Oh, and by the way. There are roaches! read more

We usually avoid Motel 6, but San Rafael is really expensive, and this was the best we could find under $100. Other people have mentioned the parking, and it isn't a good situation. When we arrived they were getting ready to resurface the parking lot, so they had taped off the whole lot. To get from your parked car, you had to duck under, or step over yellow caution tape. The spots are small and there is only one way in. We usually like to back in because we have bicycles on the back of the car, but that was impossible to do here. The first impression of the room was good. They had laminate floors instead of carpet. The king sized bed was comfortable and had nice linens. This is the best shower that we have had as far as desired temperature and pressure. The room was big, and was oddly arranged. The bathroom was immediately to the right of the entrance. The bed was on the left, behind that was a little table with a booth and a chair for eating. Then to the right was this space--not really sure what to call it...it had some hangers, and this small sort of built in dresser, but was basically just a big empty space. It was great for us though, because we didn't want to leave our bikes on the car and we needed the space to bring them in. Wi-fi and TV were both fine. A couple of hits on the bathroom, though...there were no towel racks at all! Also, no vanity, so no place to put your toiletries or your towel. read more

BY FAR the worst place I have ever paid to sleep. I saw what in my opinion were hookers coming in and out of the rooms, stained towels in the craptastic bathroom. One of the beds was actually broken and sagged in the middle. Bed covers still there since the year they opened. I would estimate the early 80's. Robbed at Motel 6 - San Rafael: I stayed at the Motel 6, San Rafael, California, for about 3 weeks. On June 8, I told the clerk I was expecting an important package from home and to notify me when it arrived (The package is valued at approximately $7,000.00). I checked every day and told each subsequent clerk the same thing; I had told one of them that I was receiving a silver St. Michael medallion because he was wearing a St. Christopher's medal. . Up until the time I left on June 29, I was told each day that the package had not arrived. I was finally able to track the package through the post office and both branches-- one in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, and the one in San Rafael - indicated that the package was delivered on June 15 at 9:48 AM to the Motel 6 office, which is behind a door that needs to be buzzed open. I spoke with a postal representative in San Rafael, who spoke with the mail carrier who delivered it. He remembered the package because it was large and he had to be buzzed in. He confirmed that he did indeed deliver it. All of the clerks deny receiving the package but they act guilty - they are no longer the friendly people they were when I was staying there. I have filed a complaint with the San Rafael Police Department, I have filed a request for a Postal Inspector General's investigation, and I am going to post as many bad reviews on Motel 6 as I can. This package contained irreplaceable family heirlooms. I refuse to let this go until my property is returned to me. I would appreciate someone contacting me about this. Warning to anyone considering a cheap place to stay in San Rafael. What I have to say may turn you off completely to the chain. My girl friend and I occupied a room on the top floor, it ran us almost 100 for the room. This is rather standard for this area, which already is a seedy neighborhood close to the highway. Here's the problem: at around midnight when we get back from Terrapin cross roads restaurant I found a glass meth/crack pipe under the mattress cover. I didn't remove the pipe. Instead I immediately brought this up to the night clerk (a middle eastern man in his thirties) with hopes of maybe getting a new room or perhaps even comped our money back. Instead what I got was an accusation that it was my crack pipe. Now I explain how ridiculous that I would turn in my own crack pipe and mention calling corporate. This is when he blew up and told me to take my money back and go to another motel or else he would call the cops. At midnight we were simply not ready to change motels from being on the road all day. After going back and forth I assured him that I wouldn't call corporate. At this he looked relieved and I just walked away. I had never felt so uncomfortable at a motel in my life that night. read more

This hotel is dirty and feels a bit on the dangerous side as far as location and surroundings. If you are a woman don't go out and get the ice from the ice machine. This place is a dump! Not worth the $75 a night plus tax. The whole place is falling apart, they literally only have a bed and mirror in the room. The bathrooms feels like you are going to catch something just stepping foot in them! At night time it turns in to a little whore-ville. There is no such thing as peace and quite here. You hear everything that is happening around you, even the crickets chirping outside! It's miserable. They don't supply any soap or shampoos, you have to go and buy them out of a ghetto vending machine and spend a ridiculous amount of money. This is the worst hotel I've ever been in PERIOD. Specifically a non smoking room. Daughter I had serious asthma issues. Upon arrival room had faint odor. Figured it was from Opening door to enter as a smoker nearby. After 45 min she was coughing so bad she puked. Went to get refund and told no. We are headed to urgent care at the moment but will cancel cc transaction as soon as possible. Upon further notice it seems the rooms on both sides of us were smoking rooms.
